  • @jmlc777 I would murder to have Portnoy back, I like hm better as Magini

  • RAAAAAWWWWWRRRRR.

  • Portnoy's voice section at 2:45 sucks. They should've brought Shagrath in or someone who knows what he's doing

  • @jmlc777 I was just about to say the same damn thing about Portnoy's vocal section. A legendary drummer, but damn I hate his vocals in DT. Glad that Mangini is in. I wish you could buy revisions of all the DT stuff without Portnoy trying too hard. Shagrath would have killed that section. Amen!

  • has anyone noticed that on the album cover, outside the door is the setting for the cover of change of seasons.

  • Nice band. They have really awsome songs. Tiring at times tho.

  • A lot of my friends told me this album was DT's worst by far and I really don't know why they fuck they said that. I have been listening to dream theater since the album Train Of Thought came out and this is NOT a disappointment at all. Still same DT to me but even better than usual. Not saying its my favorite album but it is definitely not their worst... i need new friends haha

  • @EpiqueRocker

hahha, yes man, you need new friends

  • Fucking love the end to this song!!!

  • @CalumMcNamaraHimself there is nothing like serious or non serious music, its all perspective

  • @abhimuscat to say that music is all perspective and consequently ONLY perspective is to downgrade it. music has an objective sense that goes beyond the subjective act of hearing it. now it is certainly the case that to hear music involves a perspective, the perspective of the subject, but this is a banality. every thing that is perceived is perceived from a perspective, a circumstance that does not change the fact that something, a what, is nonetheless perceived.

  • @Skwigelf100 - The worst thing is, I kinda picked that up, like, about two hours after commenting. >.< Well if you where just being sarcastic, @thenov555 I apologize.

  • @thenov555 - How is that in anyway weird? Dream Theater have a legendary bassist: Mr. John Myung. Never hear of him? Look him up. Anyway, the other four (or now three, rather) members of DT know they have a great bassist in the personnel and fuck, they want the whole world to know too. And you think the bass is loud in this song? Pah! Look up their earlier works, you can truly feel the bass rocking in the song!

  • @TheNeuroticWalrus I think he was being sarcastic, mate.

  • @TheNeuroticWalrus

for example there are bass solos in many of their songs

  • weird....you can actually hear the bass in all of their songs, what are they thinking?

  • I never really liked DT...

but I have to say this song is very very very cool....

  • hearing songs like these makes we want to go out and buy every album they have ever even been a part of. . . love Dream Theater. . .

  • @metalmike689 get to it cause i already have :)

  • damn i love this ban thanks for posting it this song rules

  • well jesus entered the world as this band clearly, and no im not religious, they are just very good at what they do!

  • I love The Beatles and Dream Theater ;D xD

  • 4:31 wtf did you do to it lol that scared me shitless with my headphones

  • @KyleJPie10 I thought my speakers blew out at first hahaha

  • My haed felll of f at 3:43 becuaes I wsa trynig to figure out hte time signature. Tpying is hrad wiht my haed of teh floor....

  • @PootStip I'm not an expert, but it sounds like a 5/8 to me, and it didn't take a lot to figure out xD

  • @PootStip It's just a 5/4. Well, at least up to 3:53 :)

  • i bet mike is happy when the song end cuz playing the drums for almos 16 minutes thats sickkkkk anywayz this song kik asss

  • half a bottle of jameson whiskey down and this song is still fucking amazing, thanks for the post man, keep hem coming

  • honestly i havent seen him using a seven string for the past two albums

  • @punkguy1988 the dark eternal night, systematic chaos, the album before this one. And it's just an example :P

  • Portnoy give jesus his drumsticks back seriously... you said you were only gonna borrow them for one album.

  • the middle of this song ( parts 1-2) is good, but the rest is too dark and heavy. i'll listen to Slayer if I want that.

  • Okay, who gave Jesus the drumsticks? Oh wait, it's just Portnoy, nevermind.

  • I got this album when it first came out, and as soon at I heard the breakdown in this song (Around 3:30) I immediately snipped it and made it my ringtone; still using it today. Prolly my favourite 30 seconds of music of all time, just comes out of nowhere and kicks your arse.

    Awesome.

  • For the one is saying Dream Theater are Death Metal.. Oh my god, listen to the lyrics, in the concept of the album, of course. And listen the "PROGGGGG" passage from 4:05!!!!

  • MIKE PORTNOY !!!!!!!!!!

  • the drummer MUST be exhausted!!!!

    poor guy

  • @thekeyofawesome1 Gods can never be exhausted

  • @thekeyofawesome1 its freaking mike portnoy hes destroyed entire civilizations without working up a sweat

  • @thekeyofawesome1 its mike portnoy he is god himself he dosn't get tired

  • awesome

  • Dream Theater rocks. For about 5 years their music was all I listened to, but man the last couple of albums have been so heavy and less melodic. I really wish they would stop with the death metal. Everyone else already plays that style. Play the heavy melodies that we once had in Awake or even tone it down to a SFAM feel where only 2 or 3 songs were this heavy

"kill your dog" kind of feel and not everyone of them.

  • I love this, the older stuff, I like every goddamn song from DT. Heavier stuff is equal to the "lighter" and older DT.

  • @poiuvox Lol; Dream Theater? Death Metal? Oh man. That was the silliest statement I've ever heard. They're Progressive Metal, of course they're gonna have introduce some other metal aspects of playing after they've played so much melodic stuff. Blast beats are hardly death metal, he's not even using the snare like death metal bands often do. Personally, I think the adaptation to their style is expertly done, and they've kept core aspects of their sounds even in this album. Try to be more open?

  • waaaau !!! awsome instrumental part !!!

  • 3:00 would be the perfect time for black metal vocals!

  • Does anyone know what key this is in? It's lower than E- Flat.

  • C minor primarily

  • I can't do that on my Kahler equipped Ibanez without changing out the low E string fork to accomodate a .52. But then, maybe doing it with a 7 string would be better. Is he playing this on a 7 string or is it just down tuned 6 string?

  • It's a down-tuned 6-string. Petrucci only plays 7-strings when the lowest string is B or lower.

  • Ok. Thanks for the info. Song totally kicks ass. Would love to see a video of them playing this one live. Or an "official" video of it. Sooner or later, this album version will get pulled.

  • Yeah, Music Man built him a baritone version of his 6.

  • @Ninjaro he usally uses a seven string so im guessing its seven string

  • One of these days, I'm going to get up the gumption to try a 7 string.

  • @Ninjaro when DT played live this song, he had 6 string guitar and tuned down to C i think, but im not 100% sure, but 6 string for sure.

  • portnoy is a beast, i'm so glad he's recording with A7X

  • Scenes from a memory is still my favourite DT album.. Every single song in it is just great..

A change of seasons best song imho :)

Metropolis pt1 and the killing hand are also good songs.

  • finally an album like train of tought !

  • Wow, I'm amazed it took me this long to find these guys...A-fucking-MAZING!

  • DT as always giving surprising us and putting a great smile in our faces

  • my fave DT album

  • dream theater melhor banda do mundo

    brasil

    sao paulo

    elton DT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111

  • You've gotta love a song that can be totally beautiful and brutal all in the same song. Scenes was my first DT Album and i have loved them sense. I think Scenes was my favorite album, but think it is quickly becoming this album. It so beautiful yet dark. Its great. DT forever!!!!

  • The Keyboard sounds like Dream Theatre, The drums sound like someone gave Jesus drums, The intro is amazing and you're annoying.

  • @iamtheplauge ahahahahahahah "someone gave jesus drums"...XD you made me LOLLING

by the way..this is a fuckin good song

  • awesome blast beat

  • dam this song was so fucking ausome...my perspective on dream theater just sky rocketed...but still by far my favorite band is iron maiden

  • lol, love iron maiden, but by far my favorite band is Dream Theater

  • dream is opening for maiden in their new tour both bands one nigth!!

  • @HellRaider99 i think that dream theater are a close second between them and metallica coz slipknot are just the best

  • @xoLiGhTnInG brainwashed fool - - slipknot are modern talentless shit and metallica are legend....but no way can they top dream theater

  • @mickiman666 slipknot are awsome and are the absolute best

  • @HellRaider99

amen. iron maiden isn't always my favorite, but i always consider them to be the best metal band ever. i saw them in concord with dream theater on father's day, they were perfect. both of them. i have to say that iron maiden was definitely the better live band though. much more energy.

  • @Fluffypopcicle i wouldn't call dream theatre completely heavy metal, progressive metal is the best way to describe them.

  • @terem098

i don't recall calling them heavy metal.

  • For me, their best song.

  • I have been drumming for 19 years and what Portnoy does on this album makes my head do a 360 on it's axis.

  • Omg i was thinking the exact same thing. When he comes in in 4/4 over the 6/8 at like 4:10 it blew my mind right out of my skull haha. I've been playin bass for 10 years :P.

  • I agree with you my friend!I was DT concert month ago and that was awesome. They all are so talented musicians and Petrucci's Mesa Boogie sound blow me away!

  • @ravenshmash - that part was indeed cool. Reminds me a lot of the song "King of Terror" by Symphony X. It's like the drummer in each case just says: "Suck on this."

  • and btw the part i'm referring to in the Symphony X song is at 0:54 incase you're wondering and it's compared to the part in this song at around 4:10 in this song that ravenshmash referenced.

  • As a musician myself, I know that when playing a genuine piece of music (im not talkin' jonas brothers or miley cirus) You do feel emotion and put that into the music that is coming out. You cant get the true feel for the music that your playing just by trying to show off. Now... Jordan Rudess... he's just such a badass he can do both

  • Aha yeah that does make sense. I definitely agree with the entertainment/groundbreaking music thing. Groundbreaking should be switched for a better term though. DT can be groundbreaking for THIS industry, but it may pale in comparison to, say, Ravel or Debussy.

  • Not to downplay your tastes, which are pretty good, as far as I can tell. I'm just trying to say that for some music, depth can be nothing more than a matter of perspective of the listener.

  • Who's to say what constitutes "groundbreaking" though? Regardless of what style of composition it is, there's not really many other bands that sound like them. Dream Theater is Dream Theater. Personally, I'd say that's groundbreaking. The thing with your point is, sometime's there's more to music than a literal, or lyrical point. Music is an art form, is it not? I'd personally say what constitutes depth is whether or not a song can evoke a feeling. Dream Theater definately delivers.

  • Listen to the opening solo to "The Count Of Tuscany", and try saying that again. It's every bit musical as it is technical. Much more of a statement than just "check me go".

  • I agree that that music is great...but your comparisons are like apples and oranges. You can't really compare "Claire De Lune" 's technicality to...say "Panic Attack" by Dream Theater.

  • in fact, dream theater are depth in their technical music more than their lyrics, but even their lyrics in a lot of their songs are quite researched

  • I also really doubt that a song that denounces religious extremism is "just rock and roll". This isn't Aerosmith.

  • please dont project your insecurities on other peoples amazing music. brain drill is wanking, this is a couple million light years away from wanking pure fucking art!!!! now plz fuck off and hang yourself

  • Yeah right, insecurities. Wish you could see Dream Theater from my point of view.

PS: Naming yourself metalking (666!) and listening to such girlish music... just amusing.

  • and why would i wanna see DT from an inbreds perspective?

  • To see the difference between art (aka Opeth) and just playing along.

  • well i do agree Opeth are gods so i guess your not completely retarded but DT are as well imo seriously man if you dont like it stay away from their videos and even if you came across it by accident which is doubtful dont take the time to leave a comment about a band that you dont even like

  • dude what are you listening to?

    Slipknot? Linkin Park? Billy Talent?

    1. take a gun.

    2. shot your head.

  • :D Not at all: Opeth, Mastodon, Blut aus Nord, Wolves in the Throne Room, Sunn O))), Fen, The Ruins of Beverast etc.

  • Sorry, the guy is too dumb for that... He'd probably he'd end up half paralized with his head turned to one side and throwing spit...

  • How many DT songs have you heard? About five? And all the wrong ones too? Before posting again, listen to: all of the Octavarium album, Repentance, The Best of Times, Wither, The Spirit Carries On, Another Day, Learning to Live, Voices, Peruvian Skies, Anna Lee, Through Her Eyes, Vacant, Wait for Sleep, Hell's Kitchen, Disappear, Trial of Tears, Forsaken....the size of this list indicates your failure.

And even these crazy sections actually HAVE musical significance.

  • Ok, I'll try those. Thanks a lot!

  • don't forget misunderstood. that song is just amazing.

  • The section beginning at around 9:00 cuts to your core, projecting the pain of the accident directly into the listener's mind. Have you never had a terrible dream and wanted to just scream?

The "samba" section in In the Name of God is one continuous sweeping solo, showing the vast destruction of genocide. When the piano (peace) comes back in, it is shut back out by more soloing.

Before you shout back about Panic Attack: it's about a PANIC ATTACK. It has to have a crazy solo in it. Go away!

  • how many songs have you heard. 2?

  • Hmm... I think 3 or 4. Maybe I compare them to Opeth too much, but I think its overblown. To the core, DT has everything I like about music but it's like they are making fun of me...

  • Love the song. Will have to try and find the CD I think.

  • Awesome song.

  • Thank you so much for this post!

  • no problem, mate! I love this band! I think this song is kickass!

  • dream theater, best band ever

  • incredible... i love it!!!

  • Mike Portnoy
