You are right. First sign of snow and people slow to 5mph, and get stuck. You Americans just go for it, and have some allmighty pile ups. We need a compromise somewhere between the two, but then we'd have no You tube videos to enjoy.
The reason the small cars go up the hill with no problems is because they have narrow tyres Witch cut through the snow cars with wide tyres sit on the snow spinning
@badpete01 it's probably far more likely that the smaller tyres have some degree of tread pattern whereas I'm betting the larger cars have performance summer tyres on with barely any block pattern.
First of all small cars are lighter thus have less problems on slippery inclines. Expensive cars usually come with fancy summer tires which are hopeless on snow.
