There's an exhibition about the whale happening now until the 2nd May at the NHM at Tring : can't seem to post a link here so just Google 'nhm tring thames' and it's the top hit.
@ninjakid09 No...No, it doesn't. That whale came up the Thames because it was already swimming in cold water and couldn't tell the difference. Sharks very rarely swim into cold waters as their blood temperature is determined by the temperature of the water around them. If that drops below a certain level, they will not go back to that area. Also, the shark would die faster than the whale would. They can't breathe FRESH water. -_- Only bull sharks can do so.
Ahh i remember that I was back in year 6 and we went to see it in the Thames (our schools about 20 minutes from where it was) we studied about how it moved and stuff. Mostly i was like "it'll be ok itll be taken home" WOAH was i wrong.
Kinda weird how we have so much love deep down for a animal who was lost. yet we cant open up to the traumer we cause many living beings arond the world. shame .
I was glued to the TV for most of that day. It was amazing. I haven't sat and watched the news for so long since the 9/11 attack... I was hoping this time I'd watch something that ended well, but I remember turning the news on just as they had announced the Whale died. Sad, but amazing day.
The scene when the man jumps in the river to try to save the whale from running aground put tears to my eyes every time. It's incredible how in this sad, egohistic world, sometimes we can find the deep essens of being human beings.
I'll look at that report, thanks. Im not saying the way the rescue was conducted was the wrong way & I understand it was the best way. Im just saying that there was little hope for the whale. Lifting it out of the water was a big risk. Im a scouser so i dont know much about the Thames river. But i'll look into it know. Cheers
Hi, thanks for your comment. I would urge you to read the full report which can be found on the web site : thameswhale(dot)info as this may help to answer any queries you may have. The team under the advice of the very experienced vets decided to get the whale on to the barge and at least get going to give the whale some chance. If they had not got moving the barge would have become 'locked' between the bridges over the Thames by 3pm as the tide came in, giving the whale a 0% survival chance.
Based on the logistics available (barge being the only vessel on the day capable of lifting and carrying the whale) the team did all they could. There have been many suggestions of ways to have carried out the rescue eg; transport the whale in tank of water towed behind the barge - what tank ?, use a helicopter to lift it .. again which helicopter/no control over whale in air/what happens if mechanical problem with helio - dump whale ?. If you have any further queries, please send me a message.
I'd fuck that whale up the ass.

The distance from the Thames at London and the estuary into the Channel is miles. There was no way that whale would have made it the way they did it.
