  • One thing I really admire in this video is how she could sing without even seeming to breathe and never sounds out of breath. Not just a beautiful voice but she was also a very pretty girl and even more so as she got older:)

  • wow.

  • Jerry Lewis' song, my lord she does it well. I wonder if she knew people loved her singing. She sure brought great times for millions of people.

  • She is my cousin:)..I am from scotland and she is my cousin:).. Her mother was my grandmother's sister <3...

  • Oh Lena you were so gorgeous and talented. You will never be forgotten and you will always be missed dearly. A great natural voice and a beautiful girl. So sad she didn't think enough of herself. RIP LENA YOU ARE LOVED.

  • I´ve never heard this song as great as this. Lena was such a great singer with a wonderful and fantastic voice.

  • my friend is her cousin. their both brilliant singers..

  • Christ, where did she get such a fantastic voice from at such a young age. Truly amazing....

  • What a VOICE!!!!!!!! The wee Lassie fae Rothesay!!! So was Matt Monroe!!

  • Great! A few minutes ago I "discovered" the voice of Lena Zavaroni and I´m her latest fan. At first the voice reminded me of Debbie Burton (young Baby Jane actress) but Lena Zavaronis singing is much better, it´s truly marvelous...

  • unlike any "famous" singers today, including Lady Gaga, Katie Perry, Britney Spears, and so on...Lena truly has TALENT.

  • Just found this almost by accident. Found out about Lena film coming out later this year, remembered her from my childhood tho' I was only about 5 then. Thought I'd check her out to see what all the fuss was about in the 70's, had no idea she was this good. Only really heard maybe MJ or Stevie Wonder sing this well at such a young age.

  • @TheSbuster Dont think the film is going to happen, it would have been great. I am a big fan of Lena.

  • @HENRYFOLEY I think you are right regarding the film. Although Paul O'Grady has stated BBC4 are involved in a project. I think the delay is because one important person in LZ's life story is still alive and may sue. She will be utterly trashed in the film. There has to be a villain in every piece!

  • @willewinky Ok, we will have to wait and see.She would be 46 now, I wonder if she would have made it if she did not have anorexia.

  • @HENRYFOLEY I am fairly sure you would be looking at an international star. Who is the most interesting singer to you. Lulu or Lena? I ask because both started out quite young. Lulu made it and Lena died poor but I believe LZ had more talent. Her memoirs would have been a great read. Of course, it is just conjecture now.

  • @willewinky Never been a fan of Lulu and never rated her. I think it was right time, right place with her, so it's Lena for me. Anyone commenting that LZ could not sing must have a hearing impediment.

  • @HENRYFOLEY I read online that LZ was considered for a Bond song. She was just too ill to do it. I wonder which one? It is such a pity it did'nt happen, it would have been a great opportunity for Lena.

  • @willewinky It's ironic, but maybe the film might have been "You only live twice", if only that was true, she would be still with us.

  • @HENRYFOLEY There is a video on YouTube you should check out. It is when Bruce Forsyth interviews Lena. It tells you so much. Brucie has a box of chocolates between him and Lena. The old fox must have heard of her eating problems and invited her to tuck into the box. Anyway, Lena tucks in and chews but spits the sweets out . Brucie did not do it in a bad way, they had such a good rapport between them. I am sure he just wanted to find out what was going on. Sadly, it was a sign of things to come.

  • @willewinky Cannot find the Bruce interview ,but have seen the Des O'connor and Frank Bough interviews, you would think it's a easy thing to save yourself, just eat.

  • @HENRYFOLEY You will be able to watch Lena and Brucie on Lena's tribute site. 'Lena Zavaroni the Brightest Star'. Well worth the time finding it.

  • @willewinky Ok , found it and watched it.Quite a talent at 15, and as you say must have been the start of her problems by not eating the choccolates.

  • @willewinky,yes I sort of noticed that she nibbled on the corner of the chocolate sweet, though I didn,t notice the spitting out. Brucie kept her talking so the sweet was put down.

  • @willewinky ,"There has to be a villain in every piece" hopefully not just for the sake of having a villain but exposing what seems to be the truth that a certain adult mistreated Lena

  • @willewinky : Me gustaria saber toda la historia.¡Pobre Lena!...Espero que la pelicula se ajuste a la verdad y pueda ayudar a las futuras Lenas para que no pasen por lo mismo

  • @HENRYFOLEY I think I read somewhere that Lena,s father might haver objected to the film.

  • Lena is a fantastic singer, for her age she is the best. Anyone would be nuts to argue against that.

  • awesome....what a great voice....

  • oh wait UN-coolconstatine, arent you the one who stated paul potts wasnt successful? and i pointed out his debut went to #1 in, i think 10 countires?? and you have the nerve to show your ugly face here after that LAUGHABLE post?? may i suggest a glass of water to wash down that foot....

  • @discovery781

I made a mistake so what, that's all you have to pick on, who cares....i don't. Funny how you bring that up when i'm always filleting you LOL

  • @CoolConstantine do you even know what filleting means?? please dont waste my time, uncool....your done

  • @discovery781

"Connie is a legend in that no other female child singer at the age of 6 achieved what she did". Cheers sword LOL

  • @discovery781

God LZ was so shit, she knows how to murder a perfectly good song.

  • @discovery781

"Connie is a legend in that no other female child singer at the age of 6 achieved what she did". Cheers sword LOL

  • Connie Talbot should watch Lenas videos and learn how a song is supposed to be sung....Connie silly little voice is easily copied....

  • @discovery781

It's you who seems to have issues with Connie talbot...no one else!

If you believe that Lena is the legend you think......why do you even compare her to CT??? So was Elvis voice easily copied, i guess you think he had a silly little voice too..

Elvis was and is a true legend to even put LZ in the same catergory is laughable 781..

To even consider LZ as a musical legend is laughable..

  • @CoolConstantine i compare her to CT because they are both from the UK, they both entered talent contests, one lost, one won, they both released albums before they were 11 years old, one was a top ten smash in the UK, one wasnt (CT)...oh and one more thing, one can sing (Lena), and one cant...CT

    THATS WHY

  • @discovery781

In that case Connie has acheived so much and LZ was still unheard of at the same age Connie is, but we no that you think Connie is a legend anyway don't we 781.

"Connie is a legend in that no other female child singer at the age of 6 achieved what she did". Cheers sword LOL

  • @CoolConstantine actually CT is unheard of right now, her public persona is non-existant....Lenas career in her first 4 years was way ahead of CTs in her first 4 years, i remember it well, you werent even born so you dont know...

  • @discovery781

You don't when i was born, you're always the first to say "don't believe everthing that you read" especially when it comes to reading about Connie and her family. I remember LZ's rise very well. Did you seeany of the acts she was up against??? They were very poor at best, it was the 70's the decade of cheese anf LZ was the king of cheese.

  • @CoolConstantine i know you werent born in the 60s or 70s, thats obvious, so dont pretend....i can see right throught you... did i see any of the acts she was up against? no i didnt, did you? thats a silly question, of course you didnt...

  • @discovery781

I born in 1962 whether you believe it or not...it's true.

  • @discovery781

Only one LZ is a legend, i'm 47 and remember OK well, for the most part it was awful and LZ did nothing to change that. Don't believe??? i don't care LOL

  • @discovery781

I see someone has posted the comment " she is so unknown in the United States".

    LOLOLOL some legend.

"Connie is a legend in that no other female child singer at the age of 6 achieved what she did". Cheers sword LOL

  • @CoolConstantine Are you seriously comparing Connie Talbots fame to Lenas? Do you not think that this little thing called the internet has helped more recent artists achieve international recognition? Being known in certain places is no indication of the talent of n individual.

  • @givemeafreak

    Connie talbot rules.

  • @CoolConstantine Yes dear, I'm sure she does..

  • @discovery781

Filleting 781 is easy, almost too easy LOL

  • @discovery781

Oh right, you KNOW i wasn't born in the 60's, i know when i was born LOLOL what an idiot LOL

  • @CoolConstantine elvis's voice is easily copied so was mariah careys so was madonnas back in the 80s....but Lenas wasnt....thats the difference

  • @discovery781

So because Elvis's voice is easily copied you think LZ is more of a legend LOL

Maybe no one saw the point of copying a shit voice. If you look, it's only the great voices that have been copied LOLOL

  • @CoolConstantine Lena was a legend when she stepped on the stage of Opportunuity knocks and won 5 weeks in a row

  • @discovery781

Did youn see the acts she was up against??? a one legged dog on a skateboard could have won....So i ask again did you see any of the acts she was up against because i did.

So is Connie legend remeber...In that case Connie has acheived so much and LZ was still unheard of at the same age Connie is, but we no that you think Connie is a legend anyway don't we 781.

"Connie is a legend in that no other female child singer at the age of 6 achieved what she did".

  • @discovery781

If you think LZ is a musical legend, why do you compare CT a little girl to a so called legend??

  • Hermosa, simplemente hermosa ella y la canción. que descanse en paz Lena Zavaroni. Gracias por éste vídeo.

  • Lena did this song True Justice and she really made it live and with her fantastic vocals she really nailed it was the best version Ive ever heard. She was such a lovely girl.

  • Beautiful voice xxxxx

    God Bless her.

  • In defence of Lena: Granted, many of her early performances leaned toward this type of singing. BUT--this is what the arrangements called for! They were designed to be sung this way, and Lena did exactly right by them to sing them the way she did.

  • @PerisphereRec

This so called talented singer had 10 failed albums. If she was around today she wouldn't impress anyone.

  • @discovery781

Not angry you idiot just amazed how bad your legendary (LOLOL yeah right) idol is dickovery. No wonder the majority of her albums were flops....which they were.

  • @discovery781

God she's so shit.....the older she got the less impressive she became. She sounds like a second rate cruise liner singer...just awful...really really bad.

  • @discovery781

781 thinks he know's how old i am LOL he doesn't. 781 thinks LZ is a legend LOLOLOLOL she obviously isn't LOLOL Elvis = legend, LZ is a serial chart flopper LOLOL

  • @PerisphereRec

Aoccording to 781, if an album doesn't make it into the top 40 albums chart, it's considered a flop by the music industry....

If this is a prime example of her talents then no wonder the mjority of her albums were flops.....just awful.

Just how old is she here??

  • @CoolConstantine since when do you take what i post seriously? maybe i lied about the top 40 albums....Connie Talbots last 2 albums according to billboard sold nothing...and now Connie has a sound and look alike in Lina from slovenia....god help us

  • @discovery781

"since when do you take what i post seriously"

LOL you do have point, no one takes what you say seriously, especially when you consider a second rate cruise liner singer is a legend...ok good point.

  • @CoolConstantine so if what i say isnt taken seroiusly, why in the world do you keep reposting it? just because i say CT has a silly little voice that any 6 year old can copy, or CTs debut was negatively recieved by the critics, or CTs debut only reached #35, despite all the hype and millions of u-tube views, or CT is a novelty, or CTs last 2 albums flopped,....get my point sherlock?

  • WOW AMAZING !!! One of the best smile Cover's i'v ever heard !!! what a star she was :) R.I.P

  • wow she sings this very fast!

  • Actually, I think most folks sing it too slow. It's a song of hope, not the slow dredge that many people interpret it to be.

  • davec69, you took the words out of my mouth.

That's the best cover of this song I've ever heard and Lena sang it exactly how it is meant to be, happy and optimistic. Most people sing it like a funeral song and makes you feel more like crying than smiling! Lena got it right.

  • ok, I will take your word for it.

  • True, in a way, but Chaplin´s original from Modern Times movie is really slow. Sentimental - and hopeful too.

But Lena´s version is great, even if I prefer to hear it in the slowly going way

  • Lena knocks it out of the park.

  • I love this song and she sang with such a poweful force she was really amazing and one of a kind. We Love Lena 4ever!

  • Amazing, thanks so much for posting,

  • I can not get her "Going Nowhere" out of my mind and heart . I watch it every day if I can. Angel now.

  • "going nowhere" the '81 version you could see in her eyes that she knew she was in trouble and maybe felt her days were numbered. The most awesome unusal talented little girl born in ,my lifetime. I have a special feeling for Lena, my daughter suffers frum the same thing.

  • Lena was born in 1963 she died in 1999 at the age of 35. If she sang this song in 1975 she would of been 12 years of age, such a big voice for a little lass. God bless you lena rip x

  • how old is she here

  • I would guess she is 11 or 12 in this clip seeing as "Smile" was released in '75. If anyone out there can narrow the date of this show down to an actual date, you'd have your answer. This is one incredible performance!

  • Those numbers running onscreen are really cool.

  • Amazing for one so young to have such a powerful voice. Greatly missed.

  • I love Lena and miss her a lot. Thanks to all you posting, she is remembered.

  • What an absolutely fantastic voice - may she rest in peace with the Angels! May children have a normal childhood which is their God given right, and may parents protect them for ever going near stardom!

  • I feel that I agree.Everyone should have waited until she was 18 for her to sing publicly and on TV.There could have ben some sort of musical society or school in Scotland-Glasgow?

  • what a talent. I agree with the comparison made with Judy.....

  • what a voice, I just love her voice.

    R.I.P

  • Do you mean you have put vinyl on to cd or have you bought cds of her`s from a shop

  • wow what a voice

  • Truly amazing,it brings back lots of fond memories, thabk you for posting.

  • Lena WAS the best of the best. I agree there will never be another like her in our lifetime. I wounder why she is so unknown in the United States. That person and talent should have been shared world-wide. Rest in peace, our lovely Lena.

  • ...As I was saying before crashing. The show is Seaside Special. Most of the 'performers' were not very special at all and the highest the show aimed for was tedium and it still missed its target. I hated it and sad to admit, Lena, but I was a kid then myself. I have since learnt better.

  • I was just listening to this track on a CD. I had the original single about 7 years ago. But I now have all her stuff on CD's. This is the best track I ever heard Lena sing.

  • Is child stardom even worth contemplating ? Parents should just say NO!!! She was a tragic victim of her own talent : how lonely this life must have been. I blame the Parents BUT times were different then, did it become a bandwagon, out of their control ???

  • What a voice! What a tragic story with striking parallels to Judy Garland..Diminutive size, BIG voice, HUGH talent. Such a young girl/woman with such a promising future ahead..Yet her life cut so short...Who could have thought history would repeat itself, 40yrs later...Two great talents, Judy and Lena, who's stars burned brightly yet dimmed way too soon. Especially for Lena...Truly sad.

  • Beautiful comments, So true,

  • there will never be another voice such as hers, she was a true star and could have been so big ,God Bless you lena

  • did she die of anorexia?

  • sadly, yes.

  • Greata performance by Lena. She was so adorable.

  • Charming... she deserved so much more than she got... dear Lena... thank you for bringing so much joy to so many

  • lena god bless u sweetheart, makes me fill up listening to the sound of ur voice what an amazing person you were Jaynex

  • Tears cloud my eyes as I watch and listen...what a voice...Lena is always in my heart...I often think of the impact her death had on her family and friends...I know the pain I feel, and it cannot compare to their pain. Always remembered with love.

  • Bless her heart.......I have a feeling there are angels in heaven singing a little more in tune now....xxx

  • What a performance, what a star.

    Rest in peace Lena X

  • Do you know if Lena ever sang a version of 'The Rose. If so, does anyone have a copy to share with us?

  • I've never heard of her singing that song, no.

  • Thank you for posting this! If anyone has Lena singing "Roses and Rainbows" please post!

  • You'll find it at the start of Remembering Lena Zavaroni part III, or IV

  • I've never heard or seen this clip of Lena before. It's ACE! Most awesome! I love it! Thanks for posting this here!!

  • What an awe inspiring voice. If only she could have been saved she would be one of todays greatest talents. Spread the word on Lena Zavaroni so that others can hear this amazing voice. Thanks to the Internet - she lives on !!!

  • Fantastic video.

    She looks and sounds wonderful.

    Thanks for posting.
