  • why is it that everything you touch becomes gold?

  • What song is he sampling?? anyone?

  • lol i like watching his studio shananigans

  • Does anyone know what this instrument is? I've seen these before and have always wondered about how to go about trying hiphop beats, is this all that one needs to try things out?

  • @cardinalfire999 Apart from the samples obviously...

  • @cardinalfire999 You need to get samples, either download them or make them, and the machine is called a MPC. I think.

  • Is there a mexican chuck norris?

  • one thing i like about john is that his lyrics are always really deep

  • I love these samples... Where are they from?

  • i hope he would make this into a full song

  • Funny thing is that John is just messin around, but he made a better song and beat then 50 cent or eminem could even imagine. haha

  • WHATS THAT SAMPLE??!!!!!!!!!!??????????

  • i love this man with alll of my heart and so much more <3

  • I like sex and im good at it! Im good at it!

  • You raped the buttons ;)

  • John dated Jennifer Aniston who starred in Friends and I remember this one flashback episode with Ross where he was talking to Chandler and Ross was trying to tell him how he's had lots of sex before and that he was good at it. Wonder if that inspired the lyrics to this amaaazing tune. This sounds like it could be a major hit if John wants it to be.

  • Anyone who knows what an MPC is, knows this shits dope.

  • @scottelliotmusic if you hate John Mayer why do u comment on all of his videos? Just go away! You don't know what ur talking about! And your music is terrible!!

  • Id totally buy that shit

  • @Greekguy824 its an AKAI MPC5000. Cheers, mate.

  • He does have some handsome hands.

  • Fantastic step into hip-hop. That could be a hit. I LIKE SEX AND I'M GOOD AT IT! I would buy that single. :D

  • How did I ever not like John Mayer?!

  • those 1062 people who gave it a thumbs up, have a good sense of humor :)

the 52 others, shame on you.

  • LOL

  • my favorite thing about this particular song of johns.......i can really relate to this one

  • Hey, mayer, if you haven't done it already you should do this drunk and record it, will be hilarious!

  • WOW HIP HOP IS REAL MUSIC! YOU MUST CHOOSE FROM 16 BUTTONS TO PRODUCE IT!!!

  • @sunp -_- You are completely ignorant.

  • @farsid3pin0y ...says the one who is oblivious to sarcasm

  • @sunp LOL.

  • @sunp Mmm... Sweet Ignorance

  • @sunp You''re joking right? Just so you know he programmed a variety of instruments and riffs into those 16 buttons. It's not like he bought it from the store like that. No, it's not a toy and no you can't do what he's doing in this video so quit talking shit.

  • @HenDrixPwns calm down he's just joking...

  • @rgl3ma57 No he's not...

  • @sunp Lol actually he would have had to spend hours looking for those samples and then he'd have to chop them up manually which could have taken hours. Sampling isn't child's play.

  • @sunp If only you knew how hard producing music is ;_;

  • @sunp it's easy right , lets see you try then ... you ignorant fools are more annoying then these youtube shitty ads

  • @sunp its not that, its the simplicity that makes it good. What do you hear in this track? a drumtrack and 16 samples. Thats the beauty of it.

  • @mergim100 i agree it's the way it's made....full of phrasing and being able to use so little to do alot. still,i prefer blues any day

  • @loho174 i feel the same bout blues. The simplicity makes it so good. Three chords and its done.

  • @sunp its called composing. after classical music stoped thriving being made nothing is original music. what you call music is all the same, but different sounding emotional bullshit.

  • @sunp ur a fucking idiot. u ignorant piece of fuck. go die

  • @sunp Make a beat and say that dude.. -.-

  • @sunp cure your ignorance

  • @sunp there are really only 12 buttons in western music.

  • @sunp What do you think, who sliced the sample and programmed the MPC? The tooth fairy?

  • @sunp You could also say making music is just choosing from 7 notes. Not a big deal, right?

  • I like sex and I'm good at it!

  • anyone know the name of the sampler he is using?

  • @VinnyAlfano18 mpc 2500

  • this is hilarious for some reason

  • Is this John singing?

  • dude you should record this song for real lol

  • d.a.s... dope ass shit, better than most stuff out now

  • like sex and im good at it lol

  • yeah :D thats good

  • hahaha

  • Hi John!

I was thinking about what your mixing board/drum kit is called? And do you use it live sometimes, when you act alone or do you use another kind there?

    Thank you

  • LOL at the tags.

John Mayer Hip Hop Rap Album Of The Year 2010

  • I like sex and I am good at it.

  • I was singing this today. I hope people didn't get the wrong idea about me! but it was stuck in my head! =)

  • i like that beat! :) nice one

  • haha, this is so great.

  • dude, i just wanna bro out with john mayer

  • hahahaha.

  • this is just awesome lol

  • WHAT SONG IS THAT

  • "i like sex and i'm good at it." :)

  • LOL

  • holy crap people.. he's obviously joking. have a sense of humor haha

  • He's a genius.

  • @gfmgma...not really, this is about as simple as it gets, aside from fruity loops.....check out NIN if you want to be blown away by electronic music...this is like guitar hero in comparison....the lyrics are funny, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was being serious. Check out "Echoplex live in Knoxville", where you can see the song being built on stage w/light squares...same kind of thing, but its a cool presentation

  • REAL LIVE PROOF THAT HIPHOP IS THE EASIEST FORM OF MUSIC TO CREATE!!!!!! how the hell do we allow those ass-clowns to be millionaires for pumping shit out is beyond me (no I am not judging this clip at all, i'm just saying its a perfect example of how stupidly easy hiphop is to make....and I like this better than anything the 'real' guys make)

  • maybe the beats. but u cant come up with half the shit they say. fuckin amazing

  • if this was 1999, I'd agree, but no one in Hip Hop has said anything worthwhile since then...I mean, lil wayne at least freestyles his verses, which is respectable, but he does some bunk collaborations,,and that auto-tune shit has to go. ready to die,illmatic,1999/eternal, 36 chambers, slim shady lp, just to name a few..no one is on that level.all they do is brag about being rich and throw out obligatory street talk. Its all crap now. and flowin' ain't that hard, its saying something that is.

  • Food for thought. Auto-tune is an effect, Are you saying that guitarists should stop using effects like distortion? That's an effect, why is the ok and auto-tune is not? Because it's on a vocal not an instrument? Why use compression, reverb an eq even?

  • its more like the talk-box Frampton used;and I'm glad no one uses anymore, its terrible. If there were an effect that made players hit right notes (maybe there is I just don't know about it) id be against it. I'm pretty against the digitech shit.Distortion comes from over-driving an amp, eq is built into the amp, as w/ reverb. I get where you come from, but why not just have a computer sing? Whats the point of a human if its being corrected so much by the processor?they all sound the same.

  • It's fucking straight stupid that's why! It's an effect that covers up shitty singers voices.

  • maybe. listen to bay area rap and ull say differently. the bay is bringing hip hop back.

  • I know there are a lot of talented rappers...I was just referring to the ones who make millions pumping out terrible 'music'...the high -profile ones who everyone works w/and are just out to make a bunch of money with clothing lines, Vitamin water etc). Its' become a cash-cow business and anyone who works w/ the "right" people are guaranteed success because listeners just flock towards the money-flaunters cuz we equate money w/talent in America...sadly.People respect record sales, not skill.

  • To me, if a rapper doesn't have exceptional lyrics, whats the point? The music is so easy to create cuz they dont have to deal w/ multiple musicians (unless they want to), and no one makes very complicated music, if you compare it to what no-hip hop artist do w/beats and electronics, so the artistry should be in the words, which almost all rappers in the 'big time' are severely lacking. It should be poetry, not dis-tracks and egotistical self-praising.And they need to stop trying to sing...

  • @scottelliottmusic i respect your opinion but i think you need to learn a bit more about hip hop. it is arguable whether or not it is easier to make hip hop beats than it is record live inst. the skill of choosing appropriate samples and manipulating them for the desired effect is an art in itself. taking into account instrument selection and creating rhythms and melodies i would say the artistry is equivalent to a song by live musicians. i record music and i love hip hop so i'm not just b.s.ing

  • @travisio theres an art to SOME of it. compare what they do musically to NIN and suddenly they all sound like Casio keyboard demos from 1995. I can make a hip hop song in about two hours with garage band. Everyone just uses samples and loops and the programs line them up for you, keeping them in time. They dont do nearly as much as they could, hence. lazy and looking for a quick hit. The lyrics used to make up for that by being captivating. Now thats gone, so there is little art left.

  • @scottelliottmusic and with regards to the self-praising and dis-tracks, i think you need to learn about the history of hip hop to understand why these tendencies even exist before you can begin to say whether they should or should not be happening. i agree w/ you on the singing though, rappers really have to stop trying to sing haha

  • @travisio self praising and diss tracks used to be about who was a better lyricist, not about who makes more money. Popular rap has gotten so far away from the roots that it is irrelevant. It was an art, now its a style. BIG difference. MCs used to tell stories about their life and the intense delivery and rough beats fit the raw, real life experiences they were relating. now they all live cushy high profile lives. How can that possibly produce authentic street rap?

  • @scottelliottmusic: Slim Shady LP = best rap album ever

  • @austinh22 yeah....no other rap debut thst i have heard has as much variety. i mean, 36 chambers, illmatic and 1999 eternal are sick, but they do get a bit repetitive, at least in comparison to Slim. That album changed my world. Dont know what happened to him cuz i never could get into his stuff after that. guess fame changed him.

  • if it's that easy mate, why ain't you a millionaire rapper? Not hating, just asking

  • because I want to be remembered for what I do w/music, not lumped together like all the disco stars from the 70's.....and if it was about just making money, I'd sell drugs...I like to express myself, not just latch on to a trend. I used to freestyle/battle(not on stage) for fun all the time, i just got bored w/ it.

  • @scottelliottmusic ok....you do it.

  • @KillenEMsoftly Are you aware of the fact that a news clip of one Antoine Dodson that was auto-tuned is currently on the billboard Hot 100? Thats right; a completely non-music related clip of a man being interviewed about his sister almost getting raped was tweaked by a computer and is a now hit single. There is absolutely no denying that Hip-Hop is rife with no talent ass clowns. It is the least talented genre ever manufactured. Thats why i dont do it.

  • @scottelliottmusic i agree it's easy to make hip hop, but it's completely disrespectful and a slap to the face to some of the truly talented hip hop producers out there. Your comment is completely ignorant. You've never listened to good hip hop before obviously...i mean it's clearly obvious, and i feel sorry for you because there's more to this genre. You've only been exposed to the Soulja Boy's out there. Mainstream anything is garbage...you know that.

  • @KillenEMsoftly Well, if you bothered to read my previous comments, you would fing a few examples of rap I like. Since about 2001, however, the genre has been dominated by dirt simple beats and even worse lyrics. Back when rap was still real, groups like Wu-Tang could has lo-fi, raw beats and kill it because their lyrics were legit. Now the one thing rap was founded on(lyrics) has gone completely out the window.

  • @KillenEMsoftly We can talk about underground al day, but thats hardly the garbage I'm talking about. I mean the people who sell millions of albums and brag about it with some of the most sub-par music since disco, but at least then the artists actually had to sing and get real musicians to back them up. No any idiot with a computer can string together samples a make a catch phrase that drunk people will yell out. Prime example, that stupid shots song.....

  • @scottelliottmusic and to add for no reason...ANYBODY can pick up a pen and paper and rap...anybody can pick up musical equipment and make music.....it's just that some people do it better and can actually create something appealing to the ear....not everybody can do that.

  • @KillenEMsoftly And by main stream garbage you would mean people like, i dont know, Kid Cudi, Blackeyed Peas, Kanye, and Jay-Z. Please, dont pretend like you are some kind of underground purist.......

  • @scottelliottmusic i'm not an underground purist as you say....and when i mean mainstream i mean Soulja Boy and all the Hip Pop songs out there....there's still good hip hop today...they just have no mainstream appeal....but they're not super underground. I don't see where you're going with that comment.

  • @KillenEMsoftly you said anything mainstream is garbage, yet almost all of your fav. videos dealing with music are mainstream. That would logically indicate that your taste in music is garbage, by your own admission. And no, its not hard to make something appealing to the ear. Esp. not now with the rampant use of auto-tune and sampled hooks from other already popular songs. Everyone just copies the last hit, changing it enough to avoid plagiarism.

  • @scottelliottmusic oh and the antoine dodson....cmon son....that was popular before the song...and the song, you gotta admit....was catchy and funny....if not...you live your life with a stoneface.

  • @KillenEMsoftly Yeah it was catchy and funny.....but it still doesn't change the fact that it took zero talent to create. It is just the perfect example that things getting on the charts means nothing. Hip hop sucks. The only way people used to be able to justify it is that it sells records. Antoine negates the assertion that you need talent to sell records. To me, that typifies the hip hop genre as it currently stands.

  • @scottelliottmusic i agree with that....but antoine really wasn't trying to make a record...it just happens that his interview could be manipulated into a super catchy song....

  • @KillenEMsoftly Precisely...so the people who actually ARE trying and have limitless studios at their disposal should come up with a HELL of a lot better shit than they do. If you listen to NIN and hear what is possible with beats/ electronics /music; the music end of any rap is not even worth laughing at, and NIN was late 80's on. Couple that with even dumber than dirt lyrics and you have the shittiest excuse for music yet to be manufactured. Thats my point.

  • @scottelliottmusic i see it

  • @KillenEMsoftly stop acting like your hood, your a faggot I seen your other comments, you are exposed

  • @elpadroney oh shit he saw my other comments....GOTTA GO! You called me a faggot? Well....you're a faggot too you big meanie! It's the internet bro...lighten up

  • in case anyone is wondering, he is using an Akai MPC 5000. Mad expensive...
