Bowling for Soup did a cover that was in the same key as this, but THEY had the decency to leave the rhythm and the lyrics (well...for the most part) alone.
It sure is, he was in Cope's band for a short while. I'd recommend Head On/Repossessed for a history up to the early nineties. I saw him on this tour, this is the last time he was "normal" looking, by Peggy Suicide (the following album) he'd become the ArchDrood. One of the most unsung and under-rated artists of his generation. See also Andy Partridge.
I like Cope's works. but, i guess this vid was influenced by Robert Longo. whose pictures was also used for New Order's Bizarre Love Triangle.

Just curious as to why this song didn't appear on the "Floored Genius" Best Of compilation.
I like the song, the video is terrible.

I like the Petula Clark "I Know A Place" reference in the middle there.

Not bad as far as cover versions go. Not the best song on "My Nation Underground"

I love Julian's music, but he totally butchered this classic.

"Butchered" it??? I've had hamburger that was treated with more dignity than what Mr. Cope did to this classic!!
And then he has the audacity ruin Petula Clark's"I Know A Place," in the process???!!
What a Fucking Disgrace!! Absolutely Disgusting!
The man should be Quarantined for what he did!!

I was paying attention, weren't you?
