Ameritards cannot even take responsibility for their own financial mistakes, Big Brother will come in and save them. You buy a house that puts a big strain on your monthly budget, then, you go out and buy a bunch of junk with a credit card, then, you get a heloc so you can go out and buy more junk. Why has this society lost all discipline, because they can rely on Big Brother to bail them out.
The funniest (saddest?) part of the entire film is where the scientific Marxist brags that in Cuba, people are really free to tell him how great socialism is.
This bothers me so much. I've only been to a few anti-war and bailout protests.....but I often find that I'm the only Capitalist in a sea of Socialists and Communists! During the rally, the speeches given ALWAYs turn off the topic of whatever the protest is to some speaker with a hardcore Marxist agenda.
A government that has the power to give you everything you need has the power to take it all away.
The government that governs least governs not at all.
Really quite sad, some points were essentially good like "the people make the money" though I differ greatly from their socialist views. The people make it and therefore should keep it and be allowed to spend it as they wish. It's theirs after all. Also can we have a protest that keeps to one topic once and a while?
The new worlding odors are heading your way, what will you do to help? We must turn off the tele's and wake the hell up,fast! Tyranny fails and so will the new world order!
Ask yourself, is it any coincidence that immigrants from around the globe seem to quietly come here to the US to make their fortune, while some "citizens" already here (like those shown) do nothing but complain, form protests against anything the government proposes to essentially moan and groan about how tough they think they have it? Freedom isn't free. To those people, if you really want to help society, I'd suggest finding a job.
No goverment can exist without the people. In reality the power is with the people in the street. So I am glad to see you in the streets of USA. Go ahaed and you will see.
Case in point, if we're bailing out the mortgage companies (and more recently airlines, and more generally anyone else who's "too large to fail"), this is...the logical other side. As long as we're working in the twisted logic where we can do things like that, this is perfectly valid. Here's hoping for a future where both sides are considered insane.
The people deserve the government they elect. Anyone who sincerely believes that the government is responsible for their sorry predicament hasn't got a clue as to the way things work. Do you blame the government for your success? Of course not. Why in the world would you assume the government has anything whatsoever to do with your (or anyone else's) failure? Each of us is responsible for his/her own life and the outcome thereof. Grow up.
If the government takes your crops, build houses on your property and rent them. The problem is never the problem. The way we perceive the problem is the problem. There is always a way to prosper, no matter what the circumstances.
The government doesn't build anything (besides weapons) hence it can't erect houses without forcibly taking the resources from someone else.
Plus, what if I like being a farmer? Should I simply change my values and perception of the world to conform to the way the government wants me to live?
You ideal man is a robot who will change who they are to suit the needs of the government. No freethinking person with a drop of self-esteem should or would ever subjugate themselves to such a system.
"The people's revolution will not be fought on the streets of the U.S.A. It will be fought with the airing of videos on the Internet. It will be fought by those who can write, those who can create, and those who can produce video. It will be fought by the people against the corportate structures that make their profits off greed and not the potentially and mutually beneficial relationship between the American worker and U.S.-based employers."
Does anyone else see a logical contradiction with there arguments? When the government destributes wealth it's "the people" when the government fights an overseas war, then its the other guy.
You need to explain yourself better. What wealth does the government distribute other than what the people have already given it in the form of taxes? And what government fights if not fought in effigy by its own people?
My point was the the contradiction in the socialist argument about the role of government. The protesters offer an alternative system where the government redistributes wealth in the form of taxes. These same protesters allege that government has the capacity to be infinitely benevolent, while at the same time railing against the military aggression of the state. They are advocating a utopian system managed by the same governmental entities which they currently oppose
The people do not give taxes. Taxes are compulsory and must be paid under threat of violence. If it were voluntary it would be a service fee and if you didn't pay they wouldn't have to help you when the need arises.
I'm a socialist, not a Marxist, but a Fourierist, not a Stalinist, but a Leninist, kind of a William Morris-type agro-eco-socialist. Oh hell, trying to explain my position is so difficult...all I really want is to take stuff from people I don't like and give it to people I do like.
Excellent reality check. While a lot of us will agree that things aren't going as great as they could (or should) right now, it is kind of nice to know that the US political system could be in much worse hands.

There are some really choice quotes here.
"The production can be rationally planned... not by banks, etc..."
"I'm a scientific Marxist."
I get it -- you're not one of those guys who walk around with a rifle and kill you for dissenting against the party. Sure.

Yeah, let's vote for more of that...

On in America would calling someone a socialist undermine their (rational) points. McCarthyism is alive and well in the land of the free...
That's reason for you.

None of these people believe in liberty. Government. Government. Government. That's their answer to everything.

Socialism is socialism. Bailing out the banks is just another socialist act, benefiting those who have pull.

Simple example refuting your point:
Say you're a farmer. Your success comes from your ability to grow crops, which you can then consume/trade.
However, if a government comes and confiscates/destroys your crops, it induces teh failure.
QED.
