the violins we play here on eboyinc are part of the collection of a professional violinist who passed away a few years ago. their family asked us to help them catalog the colleciton by doing short sound samples on each instrument. we only get to spend about 5 minutes with each violin.

  • when i heard this i just think about 2 things.....................the amazing kreisler and a complete harmony inside of me LOVE IT!!! wel played!!

  • @skunk69666 -- thanks so much...it means alot to have such nice comments c:

  • love the music

    love the violin

  • You are such a natural violinist. I use your videos to teach me when to move to another hand position. Thanks always :)

  • @robviolin1 -- glad our vids are helpful...we violinists must stick together and help each other c:

  • @eboyinc I hope you get into the school you want. You have helped many people by posting your violin videos. You surely have a good heart. The best to you. Blessings :)

  • @robviolin1 -- wow, just found your message...thanks so much. my brother and i are both working on our audition repertoires and hope to go to a music conservatory. this youtube project which we started almost 3 years ago has become a very important part of our music education. we've gotten some amazing insights into what and how we play and are very, very grateful.

  • what is really nice about these videos is, they can also be used as a tutorial... the position shifts and the fingerings are so clear that these videos can be used as a reference...

  • @TempoFurioso -- that's terrific...its very rewarding to know that they're helpful c:

  • very nice instrument. I adore the color.

  • @AuroraViolinist -- thanks...it was an unusual violin with a beautiful voice...

  • @whitefireheart -- it sounds like you have a clear idea of how to proceed on the violin. i think at 2 years in, you're in the best posiiton to know what direction to take. i'm just a student myself, but when anyone asks for advice, the best thing i can think of is to say, keep on playing.

  • Incrível e lindo

  • Please show play Serenade Franz Schubert

  • I like your virbatos. You played it well. this music deserves .

Can you play Serenade Franz Schubert ?

I want lean to play Serenade Franz Schubert .

  • Please do Bizet's l'arlesienne Menuet flute solo on vioin someday!

  • @danielsdenial....its a pretty piece...if i come across it i'll give it a try...thanks :D

  • amazing, I love this, thanks for sharing. :)

  • hi, glad you liked it c:

  • Lovely tone quality. Congrats. Thanks for sharing. I like your fingering as well. I'll use it if you don't mind. :o) I picked up the violin again this year after a VERY long time and I decided to play Meditation next. It's a bit frustrating at first, but I'm quickly getting back into the swing of things. It's a shame to waste 15 years of diligent practice... It's such a beautiful instrument. Such a lovely velvety tone in a world of digital sound. :o) Long live these wooden marvels of old.

  • best sound of all your vids...

    i loved this one

  • hey thanks so much!!!

  • how do they play one string at a time?

  • the strings are supported by the bridge which is rounded so that each string is at a slightly different height. so by varying the angle of your bow, you can play one one string or the other...or more than one string :D

  • just a little suggestion... since I totally love this piece...

at 0:12 try a glissando with A harmonic free string... then slide it back to A string 0.

Most of the violinists does this... but depends on you what would you preffer and how long would u extend it... but just try it... I love it!!!

  • whoa, good idea...i'll definately give it a try. i was sightreading this (of course, i knew the piece from having heard it a million times). but yeah, it definately needs something :D

  • you guys are very cool people ^_^

Hope to see more vids to come =D

  • hey thanks...yep, more vids for sure :D

  • This violin is so unique, like it's handmade! The strings and violin really did make a beautiful sound!

  • i agree totally.

  • thanks...glad you liked it :D

  • thanks...its an amazing instrument :D

  • I love this music! You are a perfect player! Kisses from Brasil!

  • @vanmaster7 -- obrigado c:

  • thanks. its all about love of the music and practice...stick with it and you'll play as good as you want to...

  • ahh so beautiful

  • thanks! glad you liked it :D

  • I know it's supposed to be more about the sound than about the looks,

but my my that violin has a nice deep colour : P

PS> How many years have you been playing for?

  • hi, my brother and i both work on these sound samples. we're 16 years old and have been playing since we were in fourth grade. i've been playing six years now. the sound is key, but a beautiful violin inspires me to play beautifully :D

  • Please don't take this the wrong way, because it's a compliment. I'm 29 and have been teaching myself for the last 3 to 4 years. You and your brother really make want to stop. I know you're just taking samples, so the intonation doesn't sound great, but after 3 yrs my intonation is nothing like yours. I have the ears for it, but somehow, not while I'm playing, only afterwards I hear all the mistakes better :(

  • intonation is hard...and it takes time and alot of repetition to get it perfect. even the best violinists can make errors when they're out of practice on a piece or warming up. they may not admit it, but most violinists struggle with it. in time, it will improve, but it's always there. it takes time to get a sense of a violin when you start to play it. we've found that its not easy to just pick up an old violin for the first time and play it perfectly :D

  • I guess I'm probably making it too hard on myself by teaching myself (when you have little to no money, there is no other option) as well as only improvising. I should practice through repetition on a single piece. It's just when I see people like Vengerov land those fingers in "perfect" tune, effortlessly, I start going crazy : P

Thx again for posting these videos... You are contributing to society in the best way possible with your violin sample archive

  • you're definately making it too hard on yourself. vengerov is a genius but i bet he's a workaholic too. i can't even imagine how much time and effort he put into getting to the stratosphere where he plays. he probably spends a year preparing a piece for performance or recording and we see it at it's best. i bet he is not always in tune when he's prepping a piece...or reading a piece. when i started doing these sound samples, i never realized how it would impact my life. its been amazing :D

  • you know, i've been teaching myself violin (with the help of middle school teachers) for the past four or five years as well. beautiful sound didnt really come to me till around this year and last year so you have to keep practicing to get it. dont give up, okay? i wish you luck :D

  • the sound of this violin has to be one of my favorites. it just sounds so clear and rich! thank u for posting!

  • glad you liked it...thanks for listening :D

  • is the purfling just really far from the edge or is it raised on the edges?

  • ..how many violins do you have? :D great videos anyway, very interesting too compare different sounds

  • wonderful tone and vibrato! i love that violin it looks gorgeous and sounds amazing too and deep...

  • thanks so much...you have a good ear; this is a fantastic instrument in every way :D

  • This is an Italian violin. No other makes such a sound. Beautiful.

  • thanks for commenting. yes, i think it is italian. the sound is amazing.

  • If I can find a cheap violin I would. I heard of Chinese violins, but I'm afraid of their quality...

  • it depends on what you mean by "cheap'. violins can be found that are quite a bargain with a bit of looking around. i've seen very fine old german violins sell for a few hundred dollars. i can't imagine they could be made today for what they sell for sometimes. with chinese violins, its their sheer number that's the problem. there are wonderful chinese instruments, but finding them...sorting through many that aren't so good...takes time :D

  • I love the dark shade, and the rough texture look. You are obviously not a beginner.

  • well, i'm a high school student and really in the beginnings of my violin studies, but not a new beginner. do you play?

  • Do you collect these instruments?

  • my brother and i were asked to help out the family of a professional violinist who passed away. these violins were part of their collection...we're helping to catalogue these instruments by playing short sound samples of each one. i'd love to collect them, but we're high school students and don't have the funds to collect :D

  • What a great experience! They're very lovely instruments...if only I had chosen to play the violin. :)

Alas, I'm happy with playing the viola as I find its sound much deeper than the violin's. Perhaps I'm biased. XD

  • What a personality that violin has. Beautiful piece, super lucky violinist to be able to play such a wonderful instrument.

  • hi, i agree with you completely...this is a phenomenal violin as are many in this wonderful collection of instruments. i feel extremely lucky to be allowed to play them :D

  • Yeah, I wanna get my hands on that violin!! LOL.

  • nice vibrato. what a great opportunity it must be to be able to try all these instruments... i bet it would be fun (and not good for the instruments) to throw them all into a big bathtub and swim in them

  • I found this piece online! Yay! I am goign to see if i can start working on it with my teacher:D Happy playing!

  • Now This Violin is really Miracle of Art

  • yes, you have a very good ear. this is a very fine instrument...joyful sound :D

  • wow...the voice of this violin definitely stands out. its absolutely beautiful!

  • this was a wonderful old italian violin with that distinctive sound :D

  • No doubt..this is a beautifully crafted violin that can create such great music. Everybody has observed that.

I really hope you don't take this offensive, but it's a question. How come you like to play the thais on the slightly faster side? I've always interpreted the piece to be played a tad slower to uncover a more intimate sound that can really connect with the audience. I know it comes down to how people interpret the piece, but I just wonder why.

  • hi, good question. i think the real reason is that my brother and i are doing these video sound samples to make a record of a huge collection of violins and our challenge was to keep each sound sample to about 1 to 1-1/2 minutes. this excerpt was close to 2 minutes so i was pressing it to try to shorten the video. and i guess a 2nd reason is that it's kind of hard to get too inspired by an "excerpt" and at 15 years old, I don't always feel the piece like i would in a performance :D

  • That does make sense. Btw, I appreciate you and your brother for putting up video samples of different violins being played. I've never heard so many different violins before.

  • it started out as just helping out some family friends, but it's turned out to be quite an experience. i think we've played almost 100 violins in the last 18 months and no two violins were the same at all. they're as different as the people who made them. different feel, different look, different voice, different personality. hundreds more to go btw :D

  • this violin's sound is soooooooo rich

    sounds great!

  • you have a good ear...this is a nice italian violin with a wonderful sound :D

  • ahh its so nice to hear that i havea good ear haha :D

yea i've been playing violin since i've been eight; concertmistress of my highschool orchestra and such.

its just a shame that i picked out a very tinny sounding violin in the eighth grade

i'll have to deal with it for a while

    but anywho. thanks!

  • was that violin expensive? sounds great! =)

  • this was a beautiful handmade violin...italian. i can't say what its value is but i also think it has a fantastic sound :D

  • Do you have the notes to kreisler's op6?Can you give them to me?I have no money.

  • wow! what a beautiful violin! ur playing is amazing! do you mind sending me some sheet music?(that's kind of easy to play but doesn't sound too beginerish...even though i am...) u really are an amazing musician!

  • beautifull playing and violin<3

  • I like to criticize and laugh at people who attempt to play the violin on youtube. However,I can't do it here.Your playing is absolutely phenomenal. One day I will reach a level higher than yours.

  • well, i'm still in the "attempting to" group. i get nice supportive comments, critical--and usually justifiably critical comments, and the occasional heartless comments. the sum total is helpful. even heifetz was critisized. i saw midori perform bach sonata 1 that was so amazing i could barely breathe, and when she finished, i heard someone say she was terrible and mechanical. if midori was terrible that day, then i would love to be equally terrible. its all good :D

  • eh,well midori is terrible according to my teacher. She is mechanical. That person was right imho.Have you tried listening from the greats like heifetz, menuhlin, stern, oistrahk?

  • As for me, if in this young lady's opinion is that Midori performed beautifully at a concert, then she did. These two violinists here are prodigies destined to become serious professionals. They shouldn't waste their time reading remarks from half-baked would-be violinists. I suppose that goes for my remarks too, but definately yours. What right have you to criticize and laugh at people who play the violin. Heifetz, Menuhin, Stern, either Oistrahk would never have done so.

  • hi, i left a message for you above :D

  • I am not a "half baked would-be violinist".You are, that is,if you even play the violin. If you don't,then you have no right to criticize me.

About the midori comment, that is my teacher's opinion.

  • sorry that someone said that...it doesn't matter who plays and who doesn't. we all judge the music we hear whether we play the instrument or not and its completely valid to offer criticism. its welcome here. i never assume that i can play without the need for criticism or improvement. if i thought that, that would probably be as far as i would ever get. heifetz was criticised, midori was criticised...(more to come)

  • i'm sure heifetz knew it in his day and i'm sure midori knows the criticism she sometimes receives. could midori play differently? of course she could. she plays the way that is intimate to her ear & heart. loved by millions, not by all. but criticism is a necessary tool to improve, don't you think? i believe that a player is never all one thing or another...(more to come)

  • to say that heifetz played everything too fast, a common criticism, is far from true, don't you agree?to say that midori is mechanical??? sometimes, yes, i think she can be, but that's just one color of her rainbow. she's beautiful to me. if she were to everyone, that would be kind of sad. i hope you and frenchviolins will read more deeply into your respective viewpoints. i bet you'd agree on more than you think :D

  • Thanks eboyinc, you opened my eyes to different viewpoints.I have been so naive and foolish.Heifetz does play too fast.I have never liked heifetz much but I respected him for his unmatched virtuosity.

  • Although,Midori is not my favorite violinist,I do admire her for her technique and her hard working ethics. You are right. Each violinist has their own style and interpretations.Let's just all

  • i agree. you play so you know that to achieve the level of performance of a midori or heifetz is an achievement that really defies individual judgement. it kind of becomes collective when you have millions of fans. then, i guess they can count their success in gold records and fame (not that fame means excellence, but it's got to count for something. i doubt i'll ever know, but its fun to dream about) :D

  • hi, this is a note for Andrew12795 and Frenchviolins...first of all, i thank you both for taking the time to check in on our videos from time to time. i appreciate both of your comments and hope that you can appreciate each others opinions. music for me is about joy, peace and harmony. whether it's heifetz or midori...or even my brother...i love it all for the intrinsic beauty that is there. i can hear that beauty even in someone's first lesson, can't you guys?

  • Not really if it's screechy!!!

  • lol, well, if it's really screechy i know what you mean, but even then, i can hear the inner desire to play better and the hope of a beautiful sound someday. it's beautiful when i see a five or six year old with a little violin playing with enthusiasm which makes the squeaks and screeching music to my ears :D

  • yeah well even if one does have that desire, talent is not bestowed in everybody esp when playing the violin.

  • I really loved this performance. Sweet!

  • hello! please play the whole piece someday, ok? it's so pretty:D

  • hey...i'll try, first i'd have to learn it (i was sightreading it)--i'm up to my neck in homework right now, but maybe over spring break :D

  • homework?I guess you are a student in high school?

  • unfortunately i am :(

  • haha you have to go to school. When you graduate,I'm presuming you are going to choose a music major.

  • Sounds AWESOME!!!!! Five stars *****

  • oooh thanks :D

  • Fabulous. This is so beautiful!!!

  • thanks so much, doc :D

  • I like the sound of this violin a lot. And you play this very well. :)

  • you have a good ear...this is an italian violin :D

  • Hm, I have a question. Do you use the same bow in all the video samples or do you use the bow that the violin comes with?

  • i usually use my bow on my samples, and my brother uses his on the pieces he plays. once in awhile, there is a bow and we'll try it, but usually there old and dry and need rehairing.

  • Haha, okay. That's what I thought, because on violins like these, the type of strings, the bow, and even the rosin can make so much difference. *shakes head* My bow is so hard to bounce. I'm playing a piece with lots of spiccato and my rotten brother won't let me borrow his amazingly flexible bouncy bow. >:o

  • oooh, brothers...i know how that goes :D

  • Mine bounces too much... Lol...

  • Let's trade! I can control a bouncy bow, but I can seem to make a nice bounce on a bow that's only good for pulling back and forth across the strings. Haha.

  • lol. how? mine is horrible... I have to press on the strings with a lot of pressure. So my shoulder gets tired and my fingers cramp up. But when I use pressure to keep my bow straight, it screeches like a 1/32 violin... No offense to anyone... But lots of tiny violins sound.. kinda bad.... But the cuteness overrides the scratchiness...

  • Hm. You should't have to press down on the strings with a lot of pressure. You should be relaxed. Pressing down hard creates tension throughout your hand and arm as well, and it can affect your sound quality. Pressure to keep your bow straight should be from leaning down with your index finger. Maybe you could try some new rosin- I hate the Hill rosin despite what everyone says. The Jade one works really well with my bow and violin though. Or you could try different strings that aren't as thick.

  • If that isn't it, maybe it's time to invest in a new bow. xD I know I definitely am looking for a better one right now.

  • Eh. It doesn't matter for now:D

  • Hello! I wish I knew more german... This is one of my favorite pieces. If I could find it on iTunes, I would use it to help me fall asleep. It is the only piece that can calm me down with its beauty... I love it. Thanks for posting.

    Mae(aka whitelightermae1832)

  • omg, i can't believe this isn't on itunes...try movie soundtracks--ladies in lavender. glad you liked it :D

  • Wow it sounds so beautifully, wish i could play like that. I still don't know how you guys get to try so many exotic instruments.

Do you actually own them all o-o ?

That would be insane, anyways, thank you very much for sharing your video with us and wish you guys are having Happy Holidays!

    Cheers from Canada

  • I'm not sure if my 2nd comment was posted, seems like it didnt.

  • I discovered that you speak very good Spanish which i think is a very good thing. I feel very proud of you although i don't know you. By the way, i was wondering, You guys are brother and sister right? I believe i read it somewhere, well congratulations on being so talented in the violin. God Bless.

  • muchas gracias. si, somos hermano y hermana. tengo gusto de estudiar espanol en mi escuela secundaria. no son mis violines. los estoy tocando para hacer los vídeos :D

  • thanks so much...we are enjoying the holiday and preparing for a new year's performance. happy new year :D

  • Oh! And I completely forgot to say happy holidays!! :D

  • oh, me too, i forgot. happy new year!!!

  • Oh Meditation from Thais...this piece brings back fond memories...What a wonderfully sweet violin. But it looks like those are red label strings, ya? If so they're definitely holding something back from the violin's abilities. Still, a wonderful rendition. Great job! :D

  • hi...yes, very sweet with great reach. i'm not sure about the strings...they're old. you can hear the resonance at the end. this violin is something special :D

  • Is this from an American school of violin making or elsewhere? It kind of has that American look, I think...though I could be very off. <_<;;

  • its those rolled edges that give it that distinctive look. it's an italian violin and i think it was made right after the war when the violinmakers got back up and started working again. it's very nicely made. the pegs are amazing with deep groves to make them easy to hold. the wood is hard to see but it's a deep red, not as dark as it looks :D
