i just started a week ago with 3d style and ive gotten pretty good. but it takes a good imagination. heres what i do. i think about the basic shape i was the 2d letter to be. then i make it into a 3d character in my mind and play with that a bit until i get it how i like. next i draw that out and imagine that a light is shining on my piece from a desired point. after that i simply shade how i see it in my imagination. works for me but i have an overactive imagination so.... good luck =D
