Doctor did one injection worked for 4 months now finger worse than before, I saw Ortho he did not want to inject again only wanted to do surgery. Could it be worthwhile to get 2nd injection before surgery? Thanks
So, is it normal to have this when you're young? I'm 18 and this happens every now and then. though i am not experiencing any pain, should i go see the doctor about this now, rather than later? At the moment whenever i close my hand into a fist, it doesn't 'glide' smoothly (my ring finger on my right hand) is it going to get worse overtime?
can you get this in your toe? if so then im sure i have it! it's not too bad, but my toe locks in the bent position and it makes my ankle click when i walk up stairs just under the aciles
I had trigger finger of my ring finger since July and had a Kenacort Shot just yesterday. It was very painful! Now, there's no more locking and the pain declined but there still is especially on the injection site. But I cant make a fist! Im having a hard time in my work. :( How long will I be able to make a fist proplerly?
@Chinellex Call your doctor for the best answer to that question - we can't say without having examined you first. The more details your doctor knows, the more he or she can help ease your discomfort.
@DartmouthHitchcock okay,, but can I just ask what should be the expected outcome after Kenacort Injection? Thank you so much for answering my queries..
@DartmouthHitchcock in the video I didn't hear nothing regarding kinesio taping. Would it be useful or not? If I try lifting the skin and the muscles with a kinesio tape, the tendon maybe would be relieved a bit, or this is just a bad idea?
i have had these symptons in my pinky finger. it started off just being a little sore but as the weeks have gone on it has gotten more painful and has started locking, especially during the night. this has been going on for a total of about a month or so, should i see a docter or just try icing it and taking ibuprofen?
yesterday i went to an ortho specialist and he had given her an injection on the littel finger named as DEPOMEDROL but around 15 hr are gone and no relief has been shone on her finger and now i am too afraid pls guied me for the propper treatment pls
@MsVIKRANTKHARE Do let the doctor know how your daughter is doing, and find out what he or she suggests. You could also seek a second opinion from another specialist. I won't be able to make any specific recommendations for your daughter's care because we simply can't do so without examining your daughter's hand in person. I hope she finds some relief soon!
@MsVIKRANTKHARE. Not sure why no one mentioned that steroid shots takes 1-3 days before relief, and it often hurts more immediately after the shot for a day, too. So I have to ice the joint, take NSAIDs, rest my hand, and be off work for 1-2 days after each shot. But, oh what sweet, temporary relief!
my 3 yrs old daughter have trigger finger in her littel finger of left hand should i go for the surgeory or injecting pls reply me as soon as possible i am really afraid for my littel priencess
@MsVIKRANTKHARE Your daughter will need to be examined in person to find the best treatment for her. Her doctor should be able to recommend a pediatric specialist in your area. We wish the very best for you and your princess!
i work with knives about 9 hours a day 5-6 day a week my middle finger on my right hand the hand i hold the knife with triggers, it seems to be worst at night and right when i wake up in the A.M im only 20 yrs old and i have been having this problem for about 2 yrs now i am wondering if i dont get it treated what are the long term effects i also have noticed my knuckle on the finger that triggers is much larger then the one on my left hand, what do you suggest i do??
@burtonryder1 We asked Dr. Kerrigan about your situation, and she says that without treatment, the joint may become stiff and unable to straighten completely, even when the triggering has been corrected. We can't diagnose you or determine a course of treatment without seeing you, of course, but we do recommend that you see your primary care physician as soon as possible. Take care.
I have this on my left hand middle finger. I wake up with my finger stuck and have to pull it with my other hand. I didn't know there is surgery for this
@eishiba10 Thanks for writing. Dr. Kerrigan says that both treatments can work for the thumb as well as the other fingers. We encourage you to visit your primary care physician and a specialist to determine the best course of treatment for you.
Thanks, I appreciate your clear explanations and the fact that you covered most of my questions. One question not answered is whether the symptoms can go away on their own, or does the condition just slowly get worse and worse?
@hewaschuk Hello! We forwarded your question to Dr. Kerrigan. She says that sometimes the symptoms go away on their own, and she recommends treatment when they bother you enough to seek care. Of course, every case is different, and we recommend that you see your primary care provider if you have further questions.

@DartmouthHitchcock is there anything you can do to help it go away? my problem is in my right middle finger and it's annoying when you work with your hands alot . also can't do any workouts on my punching bag without worrying about the finger locking up on me :(
@TheCasinohustler I had to have surgery to correct a locking finger. I had 3 injections, but it kept coming back. But i would try the injections first as the surgery left me unable to straighten out that finger, but that's me.
@TheCasinohustler Have you seen your doctor? An in-person exam is always the best first step. He or she can refer you to a specialist for further treatment so you can get back to your workout! Good luck!
