this all about the things that haven't been explored to do in public and trying to understand the transition of thinking by sound from conscious thinking and rationalizing to a mental state of absence until you find yourself doing it in third person view or something... wow
@don19arroyo plus the pleasure you found from screaming.... though it is kind of painful you are becoming use to it and got it completely ignored like throwing your problems away but in this your thinking instead wow! good artist and i only discovered her minutes ago
What is it with people comparing this to Warhol? Just because it's the only artist you know doesn't mean that everything has to be compared to him, and by the way, this is PERFORMANCE art not POP art. Come on people do some research before you open your mouths.
I know everyone is going to vote this down, and it will soon be replaced by "This comment has received too many negative votes," But I only find this annoying. Everyone's saying art can be anything, like whatever this is, but art also allows people to have opinions, so don't go around deleting comments because you don't agree with them.
Amazing Symbolism in this work. I love it! A lot of things to look for when viewing this piece. My Point of View of this piece is of an argument between 2 people where the sound produced from their voices develops over time into something very broad and compelling to where their is only one who finishes last(As given to popular belief that women last longer in arguments so to speak) Thats my perspective of this piece. I hope others can find something interesting of this piece in their own view.
I bet I will be called uneducated, uncultured or something like that, but in my opinion, it is a disgrace to call this art. Art is something you need to work at 'getting'. A great painting or opera or sculpture is just beautiful. Everyone can see the beauty straight away. All this bollocks about "well this is a comment on this part of society", etc, etc is total bullshit. Let the hating begin.
I don't know if this is art or not (I have come to realize that art is a subjective matter), I don't even know if I like it. What I know is that I couldn't take my eyes (or ears) off the screen.
You're focusing on a very narrow view onto the definition of art. This is concept art. It's not about how it looks, but what it symbolises. CONCEPT art. Look at the concept.
when you are faced with something that is powerful, inspiring, moving, or beautiful, you have an experience with it that is one of the most important moments in life, certainly my life. At that moment, it is not important to decide whether it is art.
Later on you can endlessly ponder and debate about what to call it, or whether it is art (what IS art?)
marina you are one and only! i understood how silly, sad and ugly we are when we scream at each other! i'll never fight with my man again, screaming and insulting him...thanks...this is art...
I don't understand this and that's what makes it art, because the moment you think you understand a piece of art is the moment it dies. This way it lives on forever...sits in the back of your mind...comes up every once in a while...makes you think....then is forgotten for a while again...but non the less, lives on.
I feel a bit ashamed about the coments in this video.. really.. nobody seems know nothing about Abramovic's art... you don't have to like it...that's not the final objective... just experienced it...
Explores some novel concepts about physical boundaries, and as both bodies near each other you could almost say they create a sort of physical representation of what is appropriate body distance throughout different cultures/relationships.
In regards to tension, I felt it was quite obvious in the beginning; however, I felt that it went through a lull in the middle. There was this fantastic crescendo, and then it sort of fell flat for me. However, the end is quite amazing and almost comedic.
Brownie points for all the people here who have offered the opinion the work is absurd or ridiculous but who have refrained from dismissing it as crap. Absurd and ridiculous can be good. A clown is ridiculous. A great clown is a great artist. This work is many things and absurd is one of them.
This may be the dumbest fucking thing to ever exist. I mean sure, you can say this is art. Art can still be shitty. Good art gives a message to the audience. This gives a headache to me.
@Potatomade Good art doesn't give a simple and clear message. That is the job of propaganda and advertising. Good art gives a simple and clear signal, but that is an entirely different thing.
@HecklerBoy7 And YouTube comments show that any ignorant dipshit can tell the whole world what they think without having made any effort to understand what it is they are commenting about.
@HecklerBoy7 You may not have noticed that there are people who find this meaningful and even moving. You are too lazy and complacent to ask yourself why, and too self-satisfied to ask one of those people the same question so you just write this very large number of people en masse as pretentious.
Once you understand, you are entitled to make any judgement you like, but if you can't be bothered to understand, you are simply lazy and boorish.
@fartybraindeath First of all, I know why some people find this "meaningful and even moving". You're hasty guess that I "don't understand" IS PRETENTIOUS, you pseudo afficionado. And since I now "understand" I am now "entitled to make any judgement"; I still think it's a crock of shit. If you had half the brain you obviously think you have, you'd realize that art is subjective. I like You cannot deduce that I'm "ignorant" simply because I don't find beauty in something that gives you a boner.
I had the "pleasure" of seeing this woman's display at MoMA a few months ago. I was stunned how ridiculous it all was. I could go on and on about how stupid all of her "art" was, but there's not enough room here to fully explain. I'll just say: most of it (including this) nearly made me laugh.
@braddyboy82 That you apparently went to MoMA, meaning that you must have planned specifically to see her work, and where there was plenty of documentation available shedding light on the artist's intention, yet you have nothing to say about it, just shows that you are a pathetic lying little troll.
I did not specifically plan to see her work. I was in NYC at the time and my buddy and I thought it would be enriching to go to MoMA. Boy were we surprised at what we saw!!
I was not familar with Marina at all, i went to MOMA to see Tim Burton exhibit but went to see hers, i was really impressed, really left an impression on me.
I think this is one of the few pieces of her and Ulay that they didn't try to reenact with models- Marina is spellbinding at MoMA. When I was there, another artist performed along with her. His name is Amir Baradaran, he has a website but I think hes got videos on youtube also
I like how it starts off as them just making a noise and turns into almost this primal screaming match of just pure human rage, almost spiritual, sad and kind of reflective of peoples anger. Like yeah...lol
Because when you do something like this, you can change yourself. And this is something important for some artists. Do something real, nonfiction, something that lets you transform yourself and maybe someone else. It's an interesting philosophy that has nothing to do with an esthetic. Abramivić wanted to reach their limits, do things with her body until she could no more, to change herself. As I said before, contemporary art is (in most cases) about live it, not to understand it.
@vedraville Classic-modern arts will never be completely lost. Maybe they acquire transformation and change a little, but they will do about the 'form', mainly, they so far have taken some things of contemporary art like new esthetics and forms or they have made disciplines from the strategies. And, I think, that there are really not purely contemporary artists, or nor purely modern artists. But it is not difficult to find artists working completely with the old school methods and thinking way.
@Xweetke It's hard to understand any particular work without context & that's difficult to provide on Youtube. Marina Abramovic has said she doesn't think documentation is true to performance work & that her stuff makes no sense unless you're there, in the room, with her. So, yeah, why would someone do this or find it interesting is an important question/concern.
But I'm sure Emotion & Transformation are paplable if you're standing beside them & you might see this a metaphor for all conflict.
