  • i live about 45 minutes away from here and my dad lived about 10 miles away from where it hit. I was in Hugo exactly 10 minutes before this hit. I was in North Branch when the sirens in town went off. Me and my grandma booked it home since I was only 8.

  • that looks scary

  • @thecoolmex your schould of been inside my house when ther was baceball sized hail coming down

  • @1896Ernbla I been in storms like that, the hail sound so loud but never been incide a tornado, I seen one they give me the chills. Good thing everyone was ok. But how about the neighbors were they all alright?

  • I thank god that didn't hit the trailer park =(

  • it souned very teribble is was so loud that i thought the hail was going to desroy the whole house

  • Thats scary I know

  • Wow!

  • you betcha

  • haha coming from a minnesotan you sound SSOO minnesotan

  • @UglyVlogging I love being a minnesotan!!! :)

  • I couldn't imagine living in those states that have tornadoes. I guess when you grow up there, it's nothing. I'm visiting up there soon do you guys have tornadoes in the summers usually?

  • @dbzsayinchick32 yeah. generally in the hottest parts of summer

  • @dbzsayinchick32

We do get plenty of tornadoes, but it's definitely not "nothing". When you look off to the west and see those towering ass clouds with the storms coming.... it gives me the chills.

  • Wow thats spooky...i remember that summer, because me, my mom, and my stepdad took a vacation up there shortly after the tornado to visit a friend in Hugo. (we used to live in MN but now we live in stupid ass Missouri) And anyway, we had no idea but when we got there, they explained what happened and i was like flippin out bcuz ive always wanted to see a twister...and they showed us their roof..it looked pretty bad :/

  • Love how he said roof he saif "Look at the Ruf" XD thats so cool

  • Just wondering OP, but does your house have like, furniture? Lol great video though.

Good footage, being a chaser myself.

  • i liv in dat section and i wuz lucky enough to b swimmin at my cosuins house in wisconin while it hit.

  • Thats smart to have a glass screen door 10ft away from you durring a tornado!

  • Are there Sirens?

    I don´t hear something!

  • That was eight miles from my house. I remember going outside to look at the clouds and the sky looked like it was boiling.

  • This tornado hit 5 miles from my house. An absolutely crazy experience.

  • Sweet vid

  • @xnewmoonskyx in arizona to damn hot! i like minnesota where its cold

  • Wow I remember that. I live in MN as well

  • panic! panic!

  • Holy COW! I don't know how you live through that my lord that is scary. Thanks for sharing, I was always curious about what it's like.

  • wow. flipped me out. I knew a few people who had their homes messed up from it. It was a big one.

  • why ar you afraid of a f1 tornado

  • @RAWAR14 F3 tornado

  • i miss my home in Minnesota :'( i hate Arizona

  • @toxicman15

    leave then, please

  • are pool lives ( Classic ) that was a basement ?......In Canada or at least Ontario and Quebec its pretty standard to have your basement below ground......why is that not so in the States

  • @MIKCURIE we have both....depends on what you want.

  • @MIKCURIE called a walk out basement, house built into the side of a hill

  • @MIKCURIE Ya many of those houses had what I call half basment. That tornado lifted a few houses right off their foundation and layed it down next to it with the bare basment floor visible. Also there are a ton of townhouses in that area with no basements at all.

  • are pool lives ( Classic )

  • wow i drive by ur house every day 0.0 i think i might know u

  • LMAO great vidya

  • DUDE I tottaly remeber that!! I just BARRLY missed my house In lino O_O!

  • lawlz I know EXSACTLY were this is...

  • id do the same thing, stand outside and tape x]

  • That should be houses not focuses.

  • It was very sad that a little boy was killed. However I live on 158th near falcon and I think if the path of the tornado was 100 yards to the south and went right down 158th it would have been much worse. All of those focuses are built on a slab and have no basements. There would have been no where for those people to go.

  • Good video you guys were lucky.

  • a day after that tornado, me and my family stayed with our friends in hugo

  • my house was over by that water tower and we got demolished

  • way to cut the camera away as soon as you see it

  • great video

  • We just had a EF4 tonrnado here in the Toledo, Ohio area. Millbury, Ohio looks like a war zone, and it's very sad.

    Great video!!!

  • ha im from forest lake MN suckers didnt hit us haha

  • God just saved your asses....

  • SCARY close! I am glad your family is ok, and sorry for the families who lost their homes. Yes, I would have been shaking, too!

  • Maybe thats why Kevin Garnett left. lol

  • @yudiputay Lol! and sam cassel.

  • And the same day of the Parkersburg tornado...

  • Extremely close!

  • around memorial day right? i was at the cabin and it went right over us to hugo

  • That was a nasty storm system... I remember recording the rotation of an F1 that formed close to where I lived. I have the rotation on youtube, right over hudson wisconsin.

  • MINNESOTA OWN OWN OWN OWN OWN OWN OWNS

  • no no that was a good sized twister, what was that an F3?

  • If it was a tornado it was only an f1

  • @ferrarimike23 I lived close by. It was a EF3

  • hear that freight train comin, you better start runnin

  • I definitely remember this. :/

  • ohh shit ohh shit ohh shit. Ron don't go by that door.

  • wow ya'll are retarted i would of known that

  • at 1:43- 1:44 you can see a little of the neighbors house flew off

  • my aunt knows you haha

  • ya i lived right up the road from where this happend and we lost are pool and some roof

  • @JJ9715 110-105

  • Hey i remember this!

  • Did he say, ah, phone?

As the cellphone was flyin through the sky?

  • 'mom, phone' and that wasn't a cell phone that was a starling...

  • suertudo de mierda !!!!!!

  • I was in that tornado! It was funny cuz we didnt know it was a tornado, so we didnt freak and we were laughin and jokin.Until we saw hail.

  • I was at work at the Texas Roadhouse in Coon Rapids that day, and watched the Funnel Form.. That place is NEVER quiet... BUt. Then it went to Hugo and Devestated... I'm so sorry.. You all were so lucky...

  • u guys are lucky

  • you guys were lucky that house was completely destroyed across your area I thnik this tornado was a ef3 when it got out of your area you guys need some warning sirens it could happen again I hope it doesnt, good job for being safe I wish more people would be safer during tornadoes people are still clueless now adays

  • i live in mn

  • I LIVE IN HUGO MINNISOTA

  • @atfatw ur joking right??? who lives on the iron range????? i live in southwest minnesota and yeah, its cold for summer, not ice cold, but like, 65 or 70 degrees, we do have long winters, like right now, i got let out of school cuz of the snow. i wouldnt use the word bleak, and its only rainy in the spring, u don't want to come to minnesota in march...its disgusting =)

  • brian u?

  • jake

  • man i remember that day. I lived up in Forest lake when that happened. And i remember it sounded like a train was running though.

    That was a sad day

  • Looks to me like strong EF1 to EF2 damage.

At first, how could you tell that this was a tornado? Was that an interior bathroom that you put the rest of your family (and the dog) into as the tornado passed?

  • because fucking 10 people died in it you bastard. it was an f3. i lost a dear family member in it!

  • Man, relax.

I'm not denying the loss of life and the damage that was caused by this tornado. And I'm sincerely sorry about your family member who died in the storm.

With my ?, I was referring to the moment at 1:25, when the person making the video yelled "It's a tornado!" There was not a lot of visibilty out the window, so I wanted to know what the person actually saw at that moment, and whether or not it was the actual tornado.

  • 10 people died? i doubt that.

  • 10 people di not die in this tornado... wow...

    -.-

  • i love/hate that feeling happens like 5 times a year?

  • That was a sad day. I live in Ham Lake and we didn't get it that bad. The tornado in Minneapolis a couple weeks ago was ridiculous. Strange to see one in a metropoitan area.

  • i was outside there when it was happening!! i didnt know it was a tornado, there was serious flooding at our local park. 3 feet of water covered it lol

  • that was too close for comfort. I chase storms, and I wouldn't want to get caught in that situation. Looks like it was EF-2 by the damage I saw to the houses. I'm just glad it didn't get you no worse than what you sustained from that tornado. I decided not to chase that day because I needed some rest from the three previous days I chased in Kansas and Oklahoma. Glad you and the others weren't harmed.

  • The same day has the EF5 tornado went through Parkersburg and New Hartford.

  • I remember that day it was sunny and cloudless in Minneapolis

  • I can't imagine how scary that was. When this one hit I was living in down town WBL and we could see this thing forming from our apartment.

  • Crazy I remember this thing like it was yesterday. I was stuck on highway 61 and about 150th street when this thing hit. Crazy

  • A 2yr old boy in one of those houses was killed. Sad, scary! Tornado came thru 4 blocks from my house on Wednesday. U just never know when its your turn.

  • great video! you guys got lucky

  • I was lucky too. Washington Iowa 1998 EF3 tornado went right though the north east side of the town

  • Wow, I remember that day. Even though it didn't hit us, I remember hearing sirens in Wyoming, but the Tornado never came. -Thank god-

  • Good lord. Minnesota weather changes in an instant. We haven't gotten hit yet here in mankato but st. peter did.

  • screw that shit....i'm glad i live in california !!....i'll take a earthquake anyday.

  • My dad heard this tornado 3 miles away he said it sounded like a jet but he gave us a scare cuz he didn't replie to any of our texts or calls for like 3 days

  • I heard about this, Now that I saw it even I got goosebumps.

  • look at the rouf

  • hahah

  • that was scarey =O

  • 35W buddy

  • Ok i changed my mind. You have the closest video of the Hugo tornado. Minnesota nice has it's down side every now and then eh?

  • I have family in the twin cities area and wat really scared me when they said 20 people were missing and I was like OMFG!!! Insane

  • This was the same day as the Parkersburg and Hazleton, Iowa's, EF5 and EF3 tornadoes.

  • wow that storm was so bad i saw all of the house that the tornado did it bcuz i live in richfield mn

  • it was really windy south of the cities too. it really sucks that it hit here in mn. glad you guys were ok. best luc to everyone still struggling.

  • Yay for Minnesota! Hopefully 09' goes a little better.

  • You mean 35W bridge? But yeah, a lot of crappy stuff happened in MN in 2008. Not one of our best years.

  • holy sh$& i live in burnsville

  • hahaha i love how they FREAK well i would be bawling because i am terrified of em

  • Yea I was in hugo when it happed and we were in a car and being hit by hail!

  • This tornado is probably the biggest I've ever seen. The largest I've ever seen in real life was an F2 about a mile or two from our house. We didn't get any damage though... Except for some missing roof tiles.

  • I remember seeing a clip of this video on the news last year..Wow, it's close to a year now! It's always good to look at the sky for potential tornados during the season. I've drove by Hugo on I-35 E going from St. Paul to Duluth and think about this devastation.

  • lol I wish tornadoes would touch down in Hibbing Minnesota while im working at wal mart lol. It seems like everywhere i move to I never get to see a tornado damnit i wanna see one now!!!! Does anyone remember the tornado warning for Ramsey County?

  • what part of minnesota was this footage taken

  • Hugo(North of Twin Cities)

  • MinnesOOOODA! I love those accents. Great video though, one good thing is as time goes on and as our technology keeps developing there will be more and more video footage to be taken and posted up!

  • we dont have a accent what are u from Texas? (yallllll)

  • i was looking out the basement EH!

  • Would be a great vid, except a 2 yr old boy died during it.

  • haha! this was gonna go towards us but its path stayed in hugo!

  • gotta love mn, snow one month, tornadoes the next.... last yr we had snow until MAY. it was so funny... but then again not. you gotta love mn, man.

  • that was a fucking creepy tornado are house got trashed

  • very good vid, but how he suddently came to the conclusion it's a tornado? cuz i dont see one on the vid.

  • It's kinda gray and off to the side, it's not too easy to see because of all the stuff blowing around and such.

  • hey guys its zack h.. im glad someone got it on tape. still scares me that it went right over my house. crazy stuff.

  • Hi Zack how are you guys doing? i know it's been a bad year for you.

  • Wow that was amazing...it's crazy how it can miss one house and hit others in the same neighborhood. That day was scary--I live in Coon Rapids, but we got nothing compared to Hugo.

  • very sad i live less than a mile from there i was there the next day to clean up sad day in hugo =(

  • Boy, how creepy. So glad you fellas were okay.

  • bulls***!!! 2012 is a fake! 2001 was supposed to be the same!

  • I live in minnesota! we had tons of tornado's last year. soccer districts were in monticello and we saw a tornado touch down for a sec and go right back up. after our game we were supposed to go to a house on big lake, but a tornado was heading towards there. also there was that wilmar tornado! hopefully not as many tornado's this summer:)))

  • First time seeing this video. I can tell you first hand that is one day you will never forget. I live in Champlin and our house was hit by lighting from that storm prior to the tornado. We spent 104 days in a hotel while repairs were being done. Not as bad as loss of life or entire home, but still devastating . Never made the news because of the tornado in Hugo. Good luck everyone putting your lives back together.

  • hey, I live in Coon Rapids. we got the tornado first! Anyways great filming. I am glad all of you are okay!

  • wow total destruction thats fucking scary

  • I'm a Minnesotan! w00t :)

  • haha way to go Minnesotans! :) When stuff goes down, grab the camera and go outside! haha then when it's over call everyone you know and tell them about it even though they were there! hey, it's what we do!!

  • well opening windows is a wast of time anyways. they will still blow out. its a myth and time waster. and in those types of storms time matters alot. if anything doing so make it worse being it lets the pressure in faster and you will a roof.

  • Kids! Great video. My home was destroyed and on 159th Street. The FIRST thing that happened, after I made my mad dash to the basement, was that our windows *exploded* INTO the house. Our basement was a daylight basement, almost identical to the one in this video. If I had been standing there, it would have exploded into me. No time to open windows, things like that. I barely made it to the basement in time. Vidoes are great, but please take care about standing near glass.

  • right away in the video, the bird flies away. he's thinking, screw this, im outta here.

  • you would be surprised on how often the weather warning systems come to late or not at all. i had one ravage my naberhood and take out my nabers house and damage a few others. yet the weather service said there never was one. i saw it clearly it tuched down in the lake then came to
