  • What song is this again?

  • That's a front lever and even if it was a Victorian you still need to hold it for 3 seconds. He doesn't even hold it for one. That's why you'll never see this guy at the olympics.

  • @Lancinator1 He rarely gets major deductions on his victorian, if any. He has the best victorian in the world in most experts opinions. Oh and he came 5th in 2008 Beijing olympic finals, so look that up before you comment.

  • what was the original song before it got taken down by youtube =/

  • This guy can't even hold it why does he use it in competition! No one has ever done a Victorian; even Victorian himself! If you're doing it correctly your arms should be under your back and you should be arched, not hollow. Don't give this guy any credit.

  • WTF he didnt get a gold medal? Who won the silver and gold and what routines did they have?

  • @jrk987 Gold: Yuri Van Gelder, Silver: Jordan Jovchev

  • @Sinjid142 how is gymnastics "scored"? Is it who can do the hardest moves/combos? Or who can do the routine with the best form? I mean could you win with just doing an easy, basic routine with the best form while everyone is trying more harder and intense routines with satisfactory but not perfect form?

Is that what happened here with Danny? Hardest routine, but not the best form?

  • @zuevaxcy23its based on points. point are given for each move. you get points depending on the difficulty of the move and form. A moves = 0.1 points B=0.2 and to E=0.6. so u wont win by doing only A (easy) moves. in danny's case he doesn't have the hardest routine, but his form is good. he does have a few B's in his routine (uprise fwd to L and L press handstand) while his opponents have harder moves in total. danny does however do the victorian(E), but the points dont add up to the others.

  • @Sinjid142 oh okay well I go to this local gym and I heard he got a full ride to stanford and his skills IMO look mediocre; like there are WAY better gymnasts than him. He can't flare or do a planche. And it said he got first place overall; WTF?!

    Channel name is "StraitAlex"

    REGION III CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010

    From: StraitAlex | Apr 16, 2010 | 238 views

Alex Strait Received 1st on Floor, Vault, Parallel Bars, and All Around

So yeah what do u think?

  • this guy is amazing on the rings...

  • rings are intense youd have to have some killer muscles

  • that victorian makes the inverted cross look like a handstand .

i claim , however that the most difficult move yet to be achived is the inverted planche .

  • whats a victorian?

  • The move depicted here 0:20 and done here 0:25.

  • jordan jovtchev , yuri van gelder , danny rodrigues

  • This video is inspiring... I admire Danny for being the only international gymnast to do a victorian in competition..

  • It's amazing. For now because he's the only one doing it. His "Victorian" should be a deduction based on height and body position.

    Don't flame me

When you watch OLD gymnastics videos you see many things that look (by today's standards) very sloppy. (first cross?)

20 years from now it will be commonplace and look PERFECT

Someone will be doing a "Victorian" press to "inverted Planche" That will be the "E" and "Victorian" will be downgraded to a "D"

    That's the evolution of Gymnastics

  • Maybe, but don't forget diminishing returns.

  • @23forever23 I don't know if anyone will have the flexibility AND strength to hold a inverted planche on rings, but I concur with your observations.

  • What's an inverted planche. When I try and picture a planche inverted I picture a front lever. Cheers

  • @ian9toes ...

I get your confusion, because it's not a move (yet) Visualize a planche above the rings only your chest facing up to the ceiling... with your arms behind you. like the victorian only higher... Get it?

  • Cheers. I get it. Man that would take a beast to do thtat

  • @23forever23 no one can do a victorian press to inverted planche yet?

no one will be able to do a inverted planche in the next 20 years lol...

  • Fabulous video, however how do you know he is the only one that could hold it? What group is the victorian cross compared to the maltese or the inverted?

  • Unlike most of the other skills the Victorian was put into the code of points purely on thought instead of someone actually doing the move. It was thought to be impossible, it is either an E or a super E move, I'm sure other people can do it but no in a high level routine.

  • That's quite interesting, you know I've been looking for an online edition of the points that each element gives but I can't find out one. Can anybody help me out with this?

  • Maltese is a D skill, Inverted is a C skill. Victorian Cross is a super E skill (harder than E and obviously harder than D and C).

Victorian Cross was actually thought to be humanly impossible at one point.

  • @m9mdc Well... Victorian is actually only an E

  • I would reallly like to see Chen Yibing do a reverse Maltese, that would make my year, Or my decade, or whatever. :D

  • daamn, victorian like it was lifting a cup from the table to his mouth. All his muscles screaming to let up, but he pushes it to the limit, thats the way to go.

  • thank god he didnt fall "wrong"

  • hes not the only man who can do a victorian cross

  • Well, that's debatable.

There are a couple of other guys that attempt it (Peter Derman and Ali Al-Asi), but they don't necessarily do it well enough to count.

I don't think the judges Ali credit for his Victorian in event finals in Moscow (2009) and Peter competes for Stanford in the NCAA so who knows whether or not his would get credit in an international competition or not.

Props to all the men who even attempt to compete it though.

  • that is ungodly

  • sweet maltese

  • Rodrigues is amazing on rings. un real strength

  • one time in gym, we were looking through the USAG book figuring out what we should put in our class 1 routines for the upcoming season. we came across two things that we deemed impossible after trying them a few times - the victorian, and one other thing doesn't have a name that i know of. you start with a hang under the rings, then pull through an iron cross, up through a maltese, and straight body press to handstand. it was a Super E. I'd like to see it in London. anyone know the name?

  • Search for Alexander Balandin. He does something similar. Sick strength if you ask me!

  • thank you. my life is complete lol. it's not exactly the same because he ends in an inverted cross and doesn't push out to handstand, but obviously the guy could push up if he felt like it. it's probably worth the same, that's why he just stays in the cross. i think i need to find a current copy of the USAG skills book because to find something else no one has done yet.

  • @ArmyOfZenMonkeys

Baladin 1 is hang to maltese, baladin 2 is hang to inverted cross.

  • ya type in Blandin next to the video there is a thing were there is a lot of videos and scroll down to that and u will see mens gymnastics named still rings elements really cool and the next one will be PB a guy does and gienger on PB it is amazing!

  • you're the reason so called "Keyboard heroes" exist on the internet.

They need credulous cretins like you to survive.

  • "Keyboard heroes everywhere..."

tell that to that guy below who says he used to train with Danny.

I am not the one claiming anything unbelievable.

  • 10 years ago he wasn't on TV...;)

  • Great montage.

I remember when I use to train with Danny and he was only just thinking of training for the victorian! Now it really has become his trade mark...

  • Lol I trained with him (in the same group) for over 10 years...

  • doing L-sits while watching him on TV doesn't count as training with him buddy.

  • man gotta love the victorians eh? :)

  • LoVE this montage!

  • oh my goooooooooosh!!! i wish i could train with this guy even if its just for 5 minutes!!! guys I think VAn GElder would give him competition, have these to went up against each other yet

?? please check out lord of the rings, ger van gelder, or something like that

  • They competed against each other during 8th Men's European Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland. Yuri van Gelder was 1st (16.375), Jordan Jovtchev 2nd (16.050) and Danny was 3rd (15.900).

Videos from this championships are on youtube.

  • the victorian cross has to be the single hardest move in all sports to date

  • To be able to move your body through space like that would be incredible

  • Absolutely Brilliant! unbelieveable endurance

  • Thank you! I've been looking for this.

  • Good video. Awesome music choice.

  • omg.. that has got to be the most extrem abdominal "exercis" ever

  • I'm very happy because:

    - you did a good tribute

    - I (fizniperal) give to the world a rare piece of footage :-)

    - we help spreading gymnastics on youtube

be free to send me a message (i can give you the full quality footage)

  • I'm an idiot! I saw the vid again and the picture.

  • Forgive me for my igrorance, but what is Victorian cross? I think it's the exercise when he is in a horizontal position with his back down. Am I right? I saw him on the Olympics, he was great!

  • Yes, its like inverted maltese cross (0:25 - 0:35). Extremely hard position to hold!

Danny was spectacular on the Olympics - 16.225 (7.5 difficulty). He will be the lord of the rings one day!

  • @ArmyOfZenMonkeys

Yes, he can do the best Victorian but his other stunts are not good enough.
