@tuckmeat How well does the vx-8r receive shortwave broadcasts? I had heard from someone that a ham radio will pick up quite a few more signals than other radios but won't pick them up all that well..is this true?
How long will the battery last on this radio if you leave it on all day and still talk every now and then? Could you just tell me with your experience with it? What kind of battery does it come with? Thanks.

Yeah, WIRES works...it's sort of useless in the U.S., though. Practically everyone on the network is in Japan.

You rock,I dont think I would put my $500 radio under water! Ever get the WIRES working?

@themagicjellybeans it's ok to do considering that the warranty covers any water damage. All you have to do is send it back and you're good.

I try whit VX-6R. Everything is ok whit station

Don't try this with a VX-6r!
Mine managed to let in rain, due to a hole in the case behind the label (serial number)!
Yaesu (USA) referred me to Yaesu (Japan) when I complained! Japan has not responded!
Now have a August 2008 VX-7r, used daily here at Air Traffic Control.
So far, so good.
