And lastly, and I hope youare listening Gibson - WHY IN THE HELL DID YOU REST ON YOUR LAURELS AND MISS THE MARKETING AND GUITAR INNOVATION OPPORTUNITY TO BEAT Paul Reed Smith TO THE MARKET WITH A SET-NECK DOUBLE-CUTAWAY ???! What do you give us instead, shitty "Metal" versions of Flying V's and SG's NOBODY cares about !!! I I guess you are more interested in making money that having integrity as a leading Guitar builder, right? What a joke and believe me, I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Ok, almost done now. I have played crappy, muddy-sounding Les Pauls that are straight from the American Factory that don't even sound as good as a well set-up Epiphone LP Deluxe from the 90's. Seriously. I've owned both, so I can attest to this personally. So, Gibson's Quality Control Dept is not exactly setting the Music world on fire with their consistency, that's for damn sure. I think I may be done ranting now...
As long as I'm ranting (Jeez, I must sound like the ghost of Ed Roman here!) I may as well add that I actually love the sound of a Les Paul through a high-gain tube amp (who doesn't, right?) I just didn't "drink the Gibson Kool-Aid" and would not just fork over $5000 for a so-called "New/Vintage" Les Paul, especially when I can go out and buy a wonderful playing and sounding Ibanez Artist for $800 from Ebay and have that same warm, bassy and sustaining tone for far less money.
Ok. Here we go.. The "Custom" shop at Gibson (not the Luthiers, but in the Business sense) is so full of shit and over-priced, it's a joke. Not only can a good custom Guitar company (Suhr, Anderson, Pensa, Grosh, etc...) make a guitar as good or BETTER than Gibson, they can do it for usually less money. I am SO dissapointed in Gibson for never designing a double-cutaway Les-Paul (like Pat Travers' one-off) to get the full sound with better fret access that has always been an issue for players.
so u went on this major rant because they didn't design a double cutaway LP??? r u fucking kidding me??? THERE IS A DOUBLE CUTAWAY LES PAUL!!! all u had to do is fucking google it u moron!!! next time do yr fucking homework man.
Iam getting a black custom ...but iam not paying it..that guy on criagslist better take the $450 or he wont get nothing and end up with a stolen guitar!!!
Gibson is getting their asses handed to them by our government, and by the very Chinese factory system they got in bed with to manufacture Epiphones. I had my choice of a Gibson standard LP or my Ibanez Deluxe 59'er back in '77, and I chose my Ibanez because the neck of the Gibson felt like a piece of firewood. And I could have afforded the Gibson...it was a matter of playability, sound and value. Ibanez won hands down, and I haven't looked back!
What a load of marketing BS! If these guitars created Gibson's "Golden Age", why did they change specs? So they could re-introduce these as Vintage Original Spec guitars? Bleh!!!!! I LOVE Gibson's. I own 2 Les Pauls, a Firebird V, and 2 SG's. But this marketing BS is in BAAAD Taste!!!
@mattman1127 if you buy quality strings and you clean them on occasion, (dont let them get dark grey) a gibson will stay in tune for 3 months even if played often, if played every day many hours 1 month
@mattman1127 I have no problem with my 76,77 and 2000 LP's and my 94 SG - also my two Epi's stay in tune - you've gotta run the string inside of itself when you spin em
@RmNaNtCbScRrn If you end up working there you can steal one - one peice at a time - ahaha! - seriously if you worked there you would probably hate the sight of them within a month
if my memory serves me well, i don,t believe they had computer controlled high tech lazer machines in the late fifties haha..it was basic wood cutting machines and a geezer with a chisel and a planer and if he was lucky some sandpaper. you can,t compete with that for quality, as people in those days were craftsmen...and they actually gave a toss about the product..
I've had a lot of real vintage gibsons, back in the day they were plentyfull and cheap enough, I bought a new lp deluxe for £85 incl case in 1966, back then they were nice instruments. I recently had a look at some new models and was shocked at how badly finished and set up they were. A luthier friend says he often resets bridge poles on new gibsons as they are out. Nowadays I play fenders, much more versitile and a lot cheaper. I don't think I would have another unless I was given one.
...breathing wood? Come on please.....I just bought a Les Paul (at last) and spent £1,500 on a near mint 2004 Standard - the reason? You can't get a new LP nowadays under £2k with a rosewood fretboard - wtf is 'baked maple doing on a LP? The only thing I want baked is my beans!
gibson should stop making collectors items and start making guitars for real guitarplayers again!
just a simple les paul standard. no such things as sound cavities etc. just a massive block of mahogany and a maple top and call it the usa standard-series. fender did it right with their american standard series.
save up and buy the oldest one you can afford,if the guitar has been looked after it,ll always sound better than a new one..you can,t beat vintage wood.
@jimi0227311413 No, it was a misunderstanding. The government said that Gibson brought in wood from another country that was illegal because they did not show proof, but Gibson had the documentation for the wood that came in like they have for years for the same wood material.
@jimi0227311413 That's a little extreme to say. Gibson is being investigated for supposedly using illegally sourced materials for their guitar production. They are apparantly having trouble sourcing materials, specifically rosewood, and have had to turn to alternatives. Without the materials for normal production models, the face a real challenge in the days to come. Hopefully, they will either be cleared of any suspicions, or they will find new material sources.
One thing ive noticed when playing many guitars is that Gibson guitar's can be easily copied in tone, not always accurately but close enough that it can almost pass out as one. Fender has that classic vibe that ive never heard on other guitars except for guitars made exactly the same way and shape. I stand by no one for companies and i own an LP and strat, but i wish Gibson could make a one of a kind original that can only be copied by cloning, not a totaly different guitar with similar tone.
i remeber the day my father took me to buy my first les paul ,,, i was sixteen and i bought a delux gold top ,,, it was a great day ,,, he was agreat player and gibson fed my familly for years ,, like any great crafts man you need the best tools and gibson are those tools ,, i love my gibson and miss my father
@MarvinPumpkin then why is a vintage les paul $3500 USD and more??? no fender ive ever seen costs that much. i know a friend who has both a strat and a les paul and we both like the les paul better, along with every other guitar player ive ever talked to
@CodeProtoss01 Dude. Real 50's and 60's strats pull more then most gibsons, barring the 59 and 57 les pauls. Style of guitar (les paul vs strat) means nothing more then preference. Quality and craftsmanship have nothing to do with which style you want... lol.
If you were talking new, fender custom shop guitars are just as expensive.
shouldn't all Gibsons be "vintage spec" ? When did they lose the quality to the point where they needed to go back to making them the way they did in 1959 ?
@1952Telecaster players want different things now thant they did in the 50's. for example original Gibsons came gauged and setup with .13 gauge strings on them. people also want different finishes pickups and parts.
@1952Telecaster They lost quality a while back. Want proof? They made a video of a guy playing guitar with no strings while talking about playability.... 2:12
@JgHaverty - Are you fucking retarded? Look at the fingerboard, and then say it has no strings. Good job. It's sad that you're the one calling others "shit-for-brains."
@1952Telecaster all guitars are vintage, they never lost that same quality, maybe they lost some of the qualities that they would have had back in the day, but they still sound great and work verywell. they are just making them the way they did a long time ago.
@1952Telecaster and what i mean by "they never lost that same quality, maybe they lost some of the qualities" is that they made them a bit differently back then and some things may be different than the oldies, in the videos case they are making them different from the way they made them back then aswell by making them the most comfortable models which certainly aren't the same as the oldies
When the population hit 6.5 billion and China became the worlds largest and fastest growing manafacturer you fucking idiot. You want a beautiful instrument to play for the rest of your life, your going to pay for it. Grow up.
Although I do think it's a bit ridiculous to think solid body electrics were perfected fifteen years after they were conceived despite sisxty years to improve with technology is a bit ridiculous.
@1952Telecaster that the whole idea behind the vintage spec,, they didnt lose quality ,, they stayed current in todays market and they kept up with new electronics , newer paints that last longer, woods that were not endangered,, the vintage goes back to the old ways,, you pay for we pay for and so does gibson by buying regulated woods and finishes that take longer to dry and arent as tough as the newer types,, these are the things that makes differences small differences but add them up
@Evipicc not specifically a higher quality, but what amounted to an overall better instrument due to the care in handcrafting in the guitars. the details that a person puts into something far surpasses the use of any machine.
@1952Telecaster - In the 70's they made the 'pancake' body where they sandwich a piece of thin maple in between mohogany and the necks where not one piece - the headstock was smaller in the 50's - the tuners were Kluson's I believe - in the 70's they didn't bother to cut the 'belly' out of the body like I had to do for my 76 - and now they chamber out the body to make them lighter because guitar players these days are too weak - hehe
@FilmForger another thing is that solid wood will age differently than chambered or weight relieved wood. the tone will generally be fatter and sweeter with less time when compared to a more modern build of guitar.
@1952Telecaster I think the idea was to modernize and move forward in the way they made their guitars but in the process stopped doing things the way they had done originally. Those first guitars were real unique in design and people wanted those types of guitars. With that request came these VOS models as well as things like the traditional, classic, and historic.
Sorry no longer the best made or available....There are so many boutique makers around now that they put the big MFGs to shame and also compete very well with their prices...Also, ALL made in the USA
Question: Since the quality is in question WHY do these gutiars continue to go UP in price? Because they are made in the USA? Or, could it be they are relying on the mystique of the names alone? Cause you can make your own today and for a lot less money.
@therocknlover lol definitely not worth every penny. I have many gibsons, but they are overpriced. But im willing to pay for the history of this legendary company.
@ErosaScuderia quality, sure to a certain extent, but fretworks are notorious for needing to be dressed from factory. As for durability, theyre durable if you take care of it, but definitely not in the top category of durability as gibsons infamous headstock breakage. But thats just my opinion, i love Gibsons, but "Top Quality" is usually an overstatement for me.
@ErosaScuderia yes likewise with any guitar if you take care of it. But if you meant Gibson guitars are guitars you will keep for life, I wholeheartedly agree with you.
@ErosaScuderia Nothings "Extraordinary" about a 1959 les paul. Theyre only considered the holy grail cause of the economic breakdown that year in which very few were produced, hence, the holy grailness of it.
@McScottson Im sure you got flamed to hell for this statement, but you are correct. Ernie ball, PRS, and those types have higher quality, especially with fit and finish. Go to guitar center and look at Gibson finishes. You see thin finishes, orange peel, and the like. Not much beats an old gibson, but they sure aint what they used to be...
@Earnhardt12345 Shit for brains. Why dont you look at figure out retail cost of my guitars that I've uploaded. Those are just the ones I have on my profile as well. I cant afford a 59 gibson, you're absolutely right though.
Nothing I've stated has been wrong or emotionally biased. Its a WELL known fact, gibson quality has declined greatly, part of the reason why the vintage ones are getting more and more expensive.
@JgHaverty Haaaa.. Just the way I thought you would react.. You have been reported for offensive language.. Better hurry up before the welfare office closes today.
@Earnhardt12345 Did you even look? Peavey Wolfgang standard, Ernie Ball Axis, Ibanez JEM GMC, Ibanez RG550 RFR, Ibanez RG1570BP, Ibanez 540S, Ibanez 540R, Eclectric Stratotcaster...
What exactly screams "poor" here? If anything, my collection is worth at least, or even more then yours, pending what model your 2 gibsons, and that fender are.
Im not gonna have a pissing contest with a guy who's just trolling, just know you are incorrect boss.
@JgHaverty You're the one that called me "Shit for Brains". By the way, talk to a good Luthiers and see what they say about the quality of Ibanez.. Troll??? You're the guy without a Gibson and came here looking to bad mouth them. I don't go to EB or Ibanez videos and talk shit.. And, one of my Gibson LPs is a VOS R8 and is extremely high quality.
As all the Gibson / PRS and so on Guitars they are overpriced i am a Lefty too i own a Gibson Les Paul Standard Cherry Sunburst and being a lefty you are left mostly with a very small range of models and colors Gibson still sleeps ourdays when it comes to being attractiv maybe they should do some market research. So i would never again buy a Gibson simply as they are overpriced. Do i have to be thankful that they build a few left hand models simply not cause i am paying for it.
very good guitars, but they leave out so many things, so you have to spend even more money after you drop 4 grand (at least) on one. the pickups arent nearly as good as the originals so you need custom built pups, then dont even get me started on the shitty pots and caps. but over all because i love gibsons more than anything. i still drop the money on them. they are better than anything else imo
1 people don't have money for gibson !
roxfeyxD 4 months ago
Sorry no longer the best made or available....There are so many boutique makers around now that they put the big MFGs to shame and also compete very well with their prices...Also, ALL made in the USA
Davesintexas 4 months ago
Question: Since the quality is in question WHY do these gutiars continue to go UP in price? Because they are made in the USA? Or, could it be they are relying on the mystique of the names alone? Cause you can make your own today and for a lot less money.
Davesintexas 5 months ago
No, the value of the US dollar continues to drop. So it's partly that it's made in the US.

Gibson: worth every penny best guitars ever
therocknlover 6 months ago
@therocknlover lol definitely not worth every penny. I have many gibsons, but they are overpriced. But im willing to pay for the history of this legendary company.
McScottson 5 months ago
For me, yes. You pay for the quality, durability, and reliability on the Gibsons.
ErosaScuderia 4 months ago
@ErosaScuderia quality, sure to a certain extent, but fretworks are notorious for needing to be dressed from factory. As for durability, theyre durable if you take care of it, but definitely not in the top category of durability as gibsons infamous headstock breakage. But thats just my opinion, i love Gibsons, but "Top Quality" is usually an overstatement for me.
McScottson 4 months ago
I meant Gibsons will last you a lifetime.
ErosaScuderia 4 months ago
@ErosaScuderia yes likewise with any guitar if you take care of it. But if you meant Gibson guitars are guitars you will keep for life, I wholeheartedly agree with you.
McScottson 4 months ago
Just take a look at the 1959 Les Paul.
ErosaScuderia 4 months ago
@ErosaScuderia Nothings "Extraordinary" about a 1959 les paul. Theyre only considered the holy grail cause of the economic breakdown that year in which very few were produced, hence, the holy grailness of it.
McScottson 4 months ago
Nothing extraordinary if it wasn't 52 years old, and it's still going.
ErosaScuderia 4 months ago
@ErosaScuderia much like any reputable guitars, if you know how to take care of it. Hence, nothing extraordinary.
McScottson 4 months ago
What other guitar have you seen that is 50 years old? None.
ErosaScuderia 4 months ago
@ErosaScuderia lol i hope you're joking. Does fender ring a bell?
McScottson 4 months ago
Yes, the 1954 Stratocaster.

Yeah, I forgot.

JgHaverty 2 months ago
@JgHaverty Sounds like you can afford a Gibson.
Earnhardt12345 2 months ago
@Earnhardt12345 Shit for brains. Why dont you look at figure out retail cost of my guitars that I've uploaded. Those are just the ones I have on my profile as well. I cant afford a 59 gibson, you're absolutely right though.
Nothing I've stated has been wrong or emotionally biased. Its a WELL known fact, gibson quality has declined greatly, part of the reason why the vintage ones are getting more and more expensive.
JgHaverty 2 months ago
@JgHaverty Haaaa.. Just the way I thought you would react.. You have been reported for offensive language.. Better hurry up before the welfare office closes today.
Earnhardt12345 2 months ago
@Earnhardt12345 Did you even look? Peavey Wolfgang standard, Ernie Ball Axis, Ibanez JEM GMC, Ibanez RG550 RFR, Ibanez RG1570BP, Ibanez 540S, Ibanez 540R, Eclectric Stratotcaster...
What exactly screams "poor" here? If anything, my collection is worth at least, or even more then yours, pending what model your 2 gibsons, and that fender are.
Im not gonna have a pissing contest with a guy who's just trolling, just know you are incorrect boss.
JgHaverty 2 months ago
@JgHaverty You're the one that called me "Shit for Brains". By the way, talk to a good Luthiers and see what they say about the quality of Ibanez.. Troll??? You're the guy without a Gibson and came here looking to bad mouth them. I don't go to EB or Ibanez videos and talk shit.. And, one of my Gibson LPs is a VOS R8 and is extremely high quality.
Earnhardt12345 2 months ago
@Earnhardt12345. Mij ibanezs are top quality. Why do you think jem gmc's sell for 3500+??? That's what your r8 costs....

Do i have to be thankful that they build a few left hand models simply not cause i am paying for it.

if they are trying so hard to get original specs, why do they wax pot the pups? why dont they use 500k pots? who knows

Top Quality
shiftins 2 years ago
very good guitars, but they leave out so many things, so you have to spend even more money after you drop 4 grand (at least) on one. the pickups arent nearly as good as the originals so you need custom built pups, then dont even get me started on the shitty pots and caps. but over all because i love gibsons more than anything. i still drop the money on them. they are better than anything else imo
