Fun though this is, it's not a patch on the original version of the story created by the late and brilliant Gerard Hoffnung - as others have pointed out- presented by him at his 1958 Address to the Oxford Union. I find it disingenouous of performers of this song not to have acknowledged the source of the inspiration.
Do please take the time to listen to the original story, related by the unique Mr Hoffnung. You'll find it immensely rewarding!
