ive been playing this song, wrong, for twenty years. couldnt figure out why my version didnt sound right. guess you could call it a aha moment. thanks dale.
i've been playing for 40 yrs, all self taught, can't read a lick of sheet music. with your tutorials, you've shown me in one morning what i tried to figure out for all this time and couldn't.
Thanks so much for posting this easy to follow lesson . I've been following the Allman Bros. for as long as I've been playing (almost 40 years) and I've always wanted to learn this gem of a song ! Great job !! Tom

Hey mate! First came across your lessons on vanderbilly, always well done by the way, Started learning this today thanks for your tutorial. Any more suggestions for open e tuning? so far I got of course She talks to angels, If I laugh by Cat Stevens and now this classic Allman Brothers.
appreciate you checking out the video and thanks for the kind post! Sounds like you are playing some great stuff - I don't play anything in open E. I wish you all the best with your music!
I very much enjoyed that. Started to learn when I was a kid and now I'm picking it up as a 37 yr old beginner. Do you recommend personal lessons or something else?
hello Daniel - thanks for your kind words on the video & I hope you enjoy playing it! I would recommend private lessons at least for awhile perhaps to have some feedback. All the best,
I guess that is one of the pieces every guitarist wants to play! There are so many versions on Youtube. Yours is the best I've found. Love that guitar too! Who made it?
it is a great fingerstyle classic that i waited over 30 years to get worked up! Thanks for yoru kind post - the guitar is a Collings C-10. All the best,
i'm sorry but i don't have it - wish i could help. My best guess it open D capoed because it falls so well under the fingers but that's just my guess.
Dale, Great playing...I love this tune. How about breaking the song down and giving a lesson of how the song is played. I've picked up some of it by looking at the video but it sure would be nice if you could give all the UTube viewers a step by step lesson. Thanks for all the posts! Moon

@tonedr, there's a lot of controversy whether the track was played capoed on the 2nd fret, in open E, or open D. Is there a definitive answer?
westfald 1 year ago
i'm sorry but i don't have it - wish i could help. My best guess it open D capoed because it falls so well under the fingers but that's just my guess.

You can do it in any key you like, but the tuning is not standard and the song in my opinion wouldn't be right w/o the tuning :-)

i agree with Denny, the tuning is for me the most important thing - capo 2 or open both work for me.....really appreciate you watching!
