Rolling Stones list cannot be based on sheer vocal quality; influence/popularity, perhaps, who knows. If it were based on voice, John Lennon and Bob Dylan could NOT be in the top 10 ahead of godly voices like Freddie Mercury's, to name just one. Dylan for instance is an outstanding songwriter, very influential musician, but among top 10 singers? Or even excluding Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald?? His death is strange to say the least. In a song largely about death, or death as one of the themes, he writes at the end 'drown my name' which I think is a bit weird. Also if you look at the homage paid to famous people who died young in the film Dr Parnassus, the scene shows 3 small boats with a picture of Diana, James Dean and Rudy Valentino on top floating down a river that has a massive black pyramid at the end. I remember the moment where I heard this track for the 1st time about 15 years ago on MTV........I remember being transfixd to the TV and not believing how incredible this man was. I got a bus straight into the city and bought the CD from the only store that had it in at the time (Tower Records). I have never before or since been so moved by any 1 artist like that. R.I.P. Jeff.
