  • That day in 1996 was an epic win for steam engines throughout history.

  • Steam would have lasted a lot longer had it not been for the anti pollution laws. I'll take steam any day over the diesels.

  • what music is that in the beginning or song??

  • I love the end !!

Long live Steam! nothing shows up a train in a great way with pride and status & grand as a Steamlocomotive !!

    Greetings // Stefan / Sweden :)

  • noboby hates steam trains...yay!

  • Nice great to See 844 Doing What it Should Do more often Awesome!

Pushing Modern Diesels Wow very Amazing Great Video

(Where outside of Cheyenne is that)

  • Imagine if more RandD was put into steam engines.

  • I love how 844 is rocking it at the head of a freight in this video.

  • awsomenessssssssssssssssssssssssssssss I love steam so much I love to drive them

  • This is fantastic...thankyou

  • May the Steam Locomotive Live on and entertain the young harts of children from around the world

  • the last part of the video put a smile on my face, lol, i don't think i could contain myself if i saw that myself

  • Haaaa Haaa the diesel broke down requiring the help from the steam.

Steam was always more powerful, more reliable, and more beautiful.

Steam engines are the true kings and queens of the rails.

  • Steamies for life, bitch!

  • Justice has been served.

  • Moral of the story, steam rules!

  • nothing like steam!!!!!!!!!!!

  • FANTASTIC! Thank you for posting this, I couldn't help but subscribe. A little piece of justice was served in behalf of steam and steam lovers that day...go #844!!! WOO HOO!!!

  • Haha At the End Steam Engines FTW xD

  • Ha! One in the headlamp for those stuck-up diesels. Well done, 844!

  • Steam engine locomotive should not desapear.

  • YYYYYEEEAAAA, 844 showed those diesels who was boss!

  • I RESPECT THE STEAM TRAINS!!!

  • Union Pacific should bring a big boy back to life. because a challenger is just not the same.

  • I love this. Where is the last part of the episode? I saw that someone has another part, after this, uploaded that contains stuff about 0. Winston Link, the Norfolk & Western, and Steamtown. Do you have this last segment? If you do, could you please upload it?

  • what is the engine on the flatbed being pulled by 3985?

  • 844 is amazin man! The star of Union Pacific! Hero of Archer Hill and the only steam train that wasn't retired by her owner!

  • The Union Pacific Big Boy was classified as a 2-8-8-2 so it would have been longer than the Challenger because it had four extra drivers than the Challengers.

  • @JackTeach1 The Big Boy is a 4-8-8-4.

  • what is bigger the challenger or big boy?

  • @777worldliner the big boy

  • steam train nurseing the diesal back to the station, thats great love that bit

  • haha u said it man! STEAM RULES!! the 844 and the 3985 are pretty cool, but i think ill stick to the 4449.

  • Totally! Would you believe that my dad and I happened to stumble on the 4449 on accident? Twice!

The first time, we went down to a UP yard to check out some freight train action, came around the corner of this great building in them middle of the yard, and there it was. I was six or seven at the time, and it was IMMENSE!

The second time, we were train-watching in Wishram, WA when it pulled up unexpectedly and parked right in front of our truck for a few hours. I really love that thing.

  • Wow. That had to be awesome.

  • haha, a 1940's steam engine had to help out a "modern" deisel because it broke down, totaly pwned you deisel trains, but i wish they would bring a big boy back, that would rule beyound comprehinsion, STEAM RULES, DEISEL DROOLS!!!

  • Where can i find the music for this?

  • SPANISH: Vaya, increíble historia ésa de que una máquina de vapor le ayude a las modernas diesel, toda una historia digna de contarse. Ésas cosas no suceden a diario. 5***** y favoritos.

ENGLISH: What a story! a steam engine helping modern diesels! and it was here at the exact moment, it´s like a miracle! AMAZING!!!

  • Antes de que se me olvide: 13000 reproducciones (4 julio 2009).

  • 00:49 to 00:59 3985 is such a Beast!!

  • Yes, the 3985 seems to enjoy when it pulls the stacktrain. I wonder how heavy and long that train was. The 3985 are probably more powerful per horsepower than a Saturn 5 rocket.

  • 844 is a BEAST. Hands down.

  • HELL YEAH

  • 4:08 - 4:52, Bob and 844, the real heroes of the day. All three diesels couldn´t get the train over the hill, but the 1940 steamer pushed it easily over while pulling her own train!

All modern diesels, eat your heart out.

  • I wonder if anyone has a video of 84 pushing that friehgt train?

  • "...his modern diesels were being nursed back to the shop by a 1940s steam engine."

One of the best stories in railroad history!

3 modern, high-tech diesels were assisted by a 60-year-old steam engine.

    Well done, 844!

  • lol so funny and so right for it 2 happen

  • @Leadfoot866 epic win.

  • @Leadfoot866, I agree. While diesel locomotives may take less time to get started, they cannot match a steam locomotive in terms of sheer, magnificent power. Small wonder that so many people love the old steam locomotives, as I do, too.

  • its great to see the old steamer going down the tracks instead of sitting in a junk yard

  • oh by the way the story at the end reminds me of one of the Thomas the Tank engine stories were Henry the engine has to push and pull a train with two diesels that failed while pulling their trains.

  • FEF and Challengers for the win.

  • 844 called in for helper duty, did you she her slipping and take hold? Just Awesome

  • YEAH 844 rocks.pushing a stalled freight train and pulling its passenger special at the same time is cool.and the engineer on the freight didnt know it being pushed by a steam engine until 844 started pushing it up the hill.WAY TO GO 844.that is what i call steam railroading.heres to the union pacific railroad keep both of those magnificent steam locomotives running.

  • Dude, the story at the end with the 844 made my backhairs stand up. I was so happy when I heard that. And when I saw 844 and the Challenger pulling FREIGHT!!!

  • good vid....wheres the part with Link and the Norfolk and Western?

  • Comment removed

  • LOL! All hail 844!

  • massive footage !! never seen the challenger 3985 pullin' a heavy stacktrain.

lookin' at 844 helpin' out the stranded freight just does it all, for the tru railfans

  • Heck ya they had to use the CHallenger to help the other modern diesel!

  • How about 844! Shoving that freight with a disabled diesel while pulling it's own passenger cars.....HA!

  • Challenger pulling a moden Stack train!

    Fucking A!

  • Steam Pownage!
