  • nice!

    very informative and logical.

    are you a teacher?

you sure are one good one if you are.

  • I love how GIMP includes all the most useful tools into a single package. Who the hell needs to download a demo - and then put up with the months of "Please by full package..." paraphrased signs? I could very easily recommend GIMP to anyone, and I've barely begun using it!

This is a good tutorial; I appreciate the voice over being alert, at a steady pace and enthusiastic.

  • internet explorer? really!

  • Please, help:

What I want to be able to do in GIMP is to select an area of my drawing and move it (for example, an arm that I was drawing wasn't proportional, but I like the way that I drew it so I want to move it to where it should lay; I want my canvas to remain the same, just the lines that I selected were to move) but I can't manage it. I followed the path portion of this video (minus the deleting of the outside) but moving only moved the selection lines and not the drawing on the layer.

  • Hey, I was just following your tutorial and when it comes to cropping with transparency I follow your steps, but my results are different. Instead of cutting to transparency, my program wants to cut to white background. How do I fix this?

  • @Somberwhispers You have to create a new layer.

  • Great help ..Thankyou soo much ^^

  • can anyone tell me why I can't find a dialogue box? I'm using 2.6.11

  • @charadeyouareha: From the Windows menu in GIMP, select "Layers, Channels, paths..." - that should do it.

  • @daichi2097 awesome thank you.

  • @charadeyouareha I also use this release and i found it at Windows>Dockable Dialogs. :)

  • :-) "redoes"... lool.. very helpful and well explained :-). thanx man, university of Kentucky delivers IT leaders :-)

  • can some tell me how to inport a image on the mac

    please respond

  • @tohamyproductions There are many ptions. download the mac option on the site. OR sIMPLY download Ubuntu alongside Macintosh. I think Gimp works much better on Linux, rather than windows or Mac.

  • Wow! Fast response! Thank you so much. Unfortunately I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that. I'm an old dog and very good at PowerPoint but this is altogether new for me. Sorry.

  • My version of GIMP doesn't have the "Dialogs' option under File. Any idea what I'm missing here?

  • @E5Bobby It's under windows in your version.

  • i want to be able to cut and move a single object without deleting everything.. how do you do that?

  • Quick question. Is there a way to draw with transparancy so i dont have to try and rerender what i just cut out? Basically eliminating pixels of the image one at a time.

  • I am a pixel artist, i am trying to scale down one of my artwork without making it lose quality? PLZ HELP!

  • @Pr0ph3cyTech hahaha that's kinda impossible.

  • I don't have a layers panel.

  • Thank you.

  • Mark - I finally worked things out and it was a bad error on my part. I realized that I had not been closing off the Path properly and therefore the commands could not be performed. Sorry! Do you have many more tutorials? I find yours are the best for clarity of video and excellence of voice enunciation.

  • An excellent tutorial, thank you. I have the latest download of Gimp. I am really having a problem on one point. At the end of the Path section & the Shift V and Ctrl I, you say delete. I could find no command area where 'delete' is shown so I used the delete key. Nothing happened. I redid the section as describe & clicked delete again - nothing. Would you have any idea as to why there is no delete command in the program or why it cannot be applied from the keyboard ?

  • Just downloaded GIMP today. Thanks for the tutorial. I hope to find your other one.

    Thanks!

  • i have gimp and gimp portable 2.6 and i aint went through all of that to get it

  • question: im trying to copy/paste a image into another one. But the picture is filled with white surrounding the object. How do i make that white transparent, or not show up when i paste?

  • when it comes to my mac laptop, and cutting. I get to the part where i delete the surrounding environment, my delete key does NOTHING. so i tried cutting instead, but the background around the selection turns black, and then the whole things becomes a selection :'( someone please help!?

  • i think you have to go to your layers and find the image you want to change and right mouse click and select Alpha channel and you should be able to do it

  • excellent, no rushing through bits. Thankyou Mikenku

  • Thank you very much for this video :)

  • i would have recommended showing you going to the tool bar and selecting instead of the short cuts.

  • how do you put it as a desktop background?it wont save as a regular pic?

  • Thanks for the video. I was getting frustrated cause I literally didn't even know how to resize my image and this really helped me out.

  • Your tutorial is very thorough and understandable. Thanks for sharing with the world.

  • (6:55) To close the path, hold "ctrl+click" to completely close it. :)

  • You know the one thing i cannot do is after say i have moved something i cant deselect the box then i can only draw inside the box and it stays like that forever. And in your tutorial you just use ctrl+z so you never answered how to defreaking select something.

  • Excellent for beginners. Very clear and informative.
