I love how GIMP includes all the most useful tools into a single package. Who the hell needs to download a demo - and then put up with the months of "Please by full package..." paraphrased signs? I could very easily recommend GIMP to anyone, and I've barely begun using it!
This is a good tutorial; I appreciate the voice over being alert, at a steady pace and enthusiastic.
What I want to be able to do in GIMP is to select an area of my drawing and move it (for example, an arm that I was drawing wasn't proportional, but I like the way that I drew it so I want to move it to where it should lay; I want my canvas to remain the same, just the lines that I selected were to move) but I can't manage it. I followed the path portion of this video (minus the deleting of the outside) but moving only moved the selection lines and not the drawing on the layer.
Hey, I was just following your tutorial and when it comes to cropping with transparency I follow your steps, but my results are different. Instead of cutting to transparency, my program wants to cut to white background. How do I fix this?
@tohamyproductions There are many ptions. download the mac option on the site. OR sIMPLY download Ubuntu alongside Macintosh. I think Gimp works much better on Linux, rather than windows or Mac.
Wow! Fast response! Thank you so much. Unfortunately I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that. I'm an old dog and very good at PowerPoint but this is altogether new for me. Sorry.
okay i lost my layers box thing and i went to the toolbox like you said, but theres nothing there. its only on my picture box. and wen i went to files, it didnt have a dialogs option. so what do i do to get my layers box back?
Quick question. Is there a way to draw with transparancy so i dont have to try and rerender what i just cut out? Basically eliminating pixels of the image one at a time.
All I'm going to say is I was look away and looked back kinda fast at 3:29 and I thought instead of reducing it said seducing... NO I DON'T HAVE A SICK MIND THANK YOU! Okay, if you did it you would probs say the same thing...
If you would like to see an example of what gimp is capable of in ways of illustration check out my newest speed painting video on my channel. Let me know what you think!
owww wow very fucking great tutorial for beginners ... i looked at 20 vids and couldent find anything as informative as this vidc...EXCELLENT JOB ..THANKYOU
Mark - I finally worked things out and it was a bad error on my part. I realized that I had not been closing off the Path properly and therefore the commands could not be performed. Sorry! Do you have many more tutorials? I find yours are the best for clarity of video and excellence of voice enunciation.
An excellent tutorial, thank you. I have the latest download of Gimp. I am really having a problem on one point. At the end of the Path section & the Shift V and Ctrl I, you say delete. I could find no command area where 'delete' is shown so I used the delete key. Nothing happened. I redid the section as describe & clicked delete again - nothing. Would you have any idea as to why there is no delete command in the program or why it cannot be applied from the keyboard ?
question: im trying to copy/paste a image into another one. But the picture is filled with white surrounding the object. How do i make that white transparent, or not show up when i paste?
Tohritheloneone u just use layers have the original image then make new layer put new image on it and above the layers in the same box it says opacity lower that to make it see through hope this helped :)
..How do you get it so you have an image and another image, one upon the other, but the one that's on the other one is see through, yet both images are there o.e?
i hit ctrl i and then delete everything but whats in the path but instead of it becoming transparent like in your video its just a white background. what am i doing wrong?
I couldn't get it to load for the "Download for windows" thing, so I downloaded mine from Cnet( Thats what my gimp- genious friend said to do) is that alright?
eh i got a question i can't get rid of the yellow lines arround any text when i don't need them. i saw some reactions about Ctrl + Shift +A but that didn't work
when it comes to my mac laptop, and cutting. I get to the part where i delete the surrounding environment, my delete key does NOTHING. so i tried cutting instead, but the background around the selection turns black, and then the whole things becomes a selection :'( someone please help!?
i think you have to go to your layers and find the image you want to change and right mouse click and select Alpha channel and you should be able to do it
Thank you so much for the video!!! You made it very simple. Okay, I added yours to my favorites. I know I'm going to need this later ^^ and about the tools, thanks! I used to go crazy trying to figure out how to get it back! =]
u r a very good tearcher btw....i want to now how to delete part of a layer to transparency but make it fade like...do u now wat i mean? i have gimp 2.6 so if u would explain that, i would be very thank full,
help! how do I rotate a layer? im fairly a noob to this, and I've tried all I can think of, but can't seem to rotate a text layer over the original picture.
im trying to cut out a video which has gennscreen so i know that you use the select by couler range tool, but when i cut out its doing this big weird thing, but i need to know how to unselect the page, because the page is usually selected when you file>new
when you do the scaling and then do fit canvas to layers... can i do the same thing when i create a button so the background isn't outside the button? I bring it to my website and am shocked to find a big rectangle around the button [oval] :(
You know the one thing i cannot do is after say i have moved something i cant deselect the box then i can only draw inside the box and it stays like that forever. And in your tutorial you just use ctrl+z so you never answered how to defreaking select something.
nice!
very informative and logical.
are you a teacher?
you sure are one good one if you are.
