If she made it through Nazi Germany without adopting their evil ideologies in order to survive then it's all credit to her. Many were removed from the Arts during the Third Reich due to their sexuality and executed. It must have been a dark and scarey time but she always appeared glowing and happy although in this song there is seems to be some sadness there
You should check your facts first: In truth she was rumored to be a communist spy and Joseph Goebbels dubbed her an "Enemy of Germany".
She didn't socialize with leading party members and never took part in official Nazi party functions, so her classification as a Nazi is dobtful. Her music appealed to many nazis, but that is also true for many others who weren't Nazis (such as Marlene Dietrich for example). Greetings from one who isn't a soldier but has learned to read.
Zarah Leander is without peer! She is one of the greatest female vocalists of all time. Her emotion, style and elegance simply cannot be duplicated. She is in a class by herself. Bravo, Zarah! Bravo!
I agree with who said this is the better version of this song. Nobody has sung the great word "yesterday" with so many reasons to remember it as deeply like this corageous woman's wonderfull voice... "there's a shadow hanging over me..." Absolutely unique!
BTW dweller I kinda liked this version, of course no one can better Sir Paul. Going to Wentworth soon if there is any WW2 memorabilia that looks of interest I'll let you know.. I suppose nothing from THE OBSERSTURMBANNFUHRER will have made it's way to the Uk though. Sigh!!!! Take care xxxxx
All this hatred and racism after WW2 you'd think that folks would have learnt some sort of lesson. But have they? NO. wars continue. Yer might as well bang yer head against a brick all. BUT don't-walls don't deserve stupid people spoiling them. Why only yesterday I had a warning from a neo-nazi to "Be careful crossing the road" Thankfully it wasn't A British F***wit. "IT" was from Spain DOH
Though the song is "new" to her, she mangages to give it a mature, nostalgic and wistful reading.... JUST GREAT:-)))))) Zarah at her best:-)) beautifully filmed as well:-)
I just discovered Zarah Leander and have sent her link to many friends. I love her influence on Nina Hagen as well - this lady was the cream of the crop and will affect my music from now on. Thankyou for posting this!
AMAZING....sure, the song is good itself, but Zarah Leander has perfomred it brilliantly. I had never known she has sung after WW2, but apparently she really knew how to put true emotions into what she sang, it really sounds and looks as if she menas what she sings. BRAVA!
Well no. I loathe Zionism and the Zionist Entity and have actively worked to bring about their demise. However, Nazism is worse, as practised in Germany.

She was ostracised and hated for many years, even in Sweden, for having sung for the wrong side , but then came back to triumph.
