If you are one who believes Ellen White (Gould) was a prophet then you have to believe that you are NOT one of the Remnant. In her own words, Ellen G. White taught that there was no more salvation for sinners after Oct. 22, 1844. That would include present-day Adventists. Your own cult religion has pegged you as one of the damned.
just keep it one sided, and only look at the critics work...because even critics can be wrong. Things have to be studied, compared, etc to draw a fair conclusion.
To clear up any misunderstanding, I want to mention that I'm not against you keeping the seventh day sabbath, just as I'm not against anyone who chooses to circumcise their children.
It only becomes a problem when they are used to judge another's salvation. God bless:)
I started reading various things on there, and I have read other sda writings, along with stuff from others who have left the church for various reasons, as the internet has a wide range of information.
My decisions are only based after a thorough study of both sides, and what the scriptures say. Other than my friend, alot of my information has also come from comments I've read on youtube. I assure you that I look into things quite deeply.
My first experience regarding seventh day adventists were my discussions with my sda friend whom I've known for 5 years...She was my first point of contact regarding seventh day adventists.
She was my first source of information, and we'd discuss the bible and end time prophecy. After we spoke numerous times, I started searching on the internet for more about adventists, and I came across the Whiteestate.
my brother, i beleive that EGW was sent by God to aid us in true christian living...her writings was indeed inspired by God, she was a true messenger of God...however, i have to ask, about others ways we can prove that EGW is God's messenger? some people just dont believe her because she was not stated in the bible.does the bible give clues or implications of the existence of a prophet or egw in our time? May you help me with this.its just hard to share egw's teachings if firstly they dont her.
Ellen White and others in the following back then taught that Jesus would return on precisely october 22, 1844...yet the scriptures teach:
Mat 24:36 - But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
She taught a belief contrary to the scriptures, she claimed that mankind could know the day and hour of his return....not only was she wrong, but she went against the above verse that says no man knoweth the day nor hour.
We're told we can know when it is close...but the bible makes sure to tell us that we can't pinpoint day nor hour. If a prophet claims a message is from God, but it goes against scripture and does not come true, of them do not be afraid.
Actually, William Miller came up with the date in 1843...Samuel S. Snow came up with the 1844 date, but both william miller, although reluctant, and ellen white accepted that new day.
But, what I'm talking about here is a prophet of God accepting that date, and believing that was a date from God as the return of Christ. She may be human, but she spoke as one who was given visions from God, pertaining to that date.
She endorsed something the bible said no man could know.
The fact that she decided to change the 'meaning' of that date later on does in no way hide the fact she taught it would be the date of Christ's return.
Yet bible says, no man knows the day nor hour of Christ's return...but we had samuel, william miller and Ellen white all try to predict it and got it wrong. Believing that somehow God had given the answer to the date of his return in the bible...when God himself said NO MAN knows.
She wrote, "Again and again have I been warned in regard to time setting. There will never again be a message for the people of God that will be based on time" (Selected Messages, book 1, p. 188). And, "Anyone who shall start up to proclaim a message to announce the hour, day, or year of Christ's appearing, has taken up a yoke and is proclaiming a message that the Lord has never given him" (Review and Herald, September 12, 1893).
"although reluctant, and ellen white accepted that new day."
She was not even a prophet until after the event of 1844 happened.
"The fact that she decided to change the 'meaning' of that date later on does in no way hide the fact she taught it would be the date of Christ's return."
It is amazing how illiterate critics are when they try their best to destroy foundations when they have not even understand what happened before.
Are you telling me that she didn't believe the 1844 date would be the return of Christ. and that she didn't proclaim it?
I honestly believe that Ellen White believed all that she wrote..and she believed that she received visions from God. I have no doubt she was a woman who did honestly believe what she thought the bible was saying, but unfortunately fell victim to her injuries and those who influenced her, which is evident in her writings, upon researching.
She was, as any human is, susceptible to her surroundings...and as she changed her beliefs, her visions changed accordingly, visions which she experienced during her epileptic seizures due to her injury, which the doctors say is very common in those who have brain injuries.
Ellen white isn't the only one, who during an attack(seizure) from a brain injury, would see other worlds, see things that were associated with what they believed.
The doctors who tended to Ellen White mentioned this, but the beliefs in her visions grew, despite their diagnosis. People didn't want to believe that it was a result of her injuries and that what she was seeing were things she wanted to see based on a deep desire in her own heart to be true...and not something God was showing her.
This is evident when one reads the visions of Foy, or even reads her husband's book which she copied into The Great Controversy as her own.
Aside from all this, those aren't the only reasons I deny her claim that her teachings came directly from God because many do contradict the bible when I compare them to scripture.
Such as Satan being the scapegoat and taking our sins in his own body...when scripture says nothing of the sort.
Again I believe she was a woman speaking honestly about what she believed..I do believe she was misguided by those around her though, and I cannot accept her writings as truth.
The bible tells me that it was Jesus who took my sin in his own body...not satan..and there is no verse that says satan does that nor is there anything that closely resembles that...
and that alone messes with the message of salvation and is full of danger.
Have you ever read the book by James White called "Life Incidents"? and compare it with what Ellen White wrote in the TGC? James was also one who fell victim to taking ideas from others in his own book....so not only does Ellen copy from James, James copied from two other people.
In all honesty I cannot believe that she was inspired by God..just inspired by others.
And before You think that I'm just doing this to pick on Ellen White and just accepting what others tell me that they've discovered. I searched and found James book called "Life Incidents", and compared it with the Great Controversy on the Whiteestate website, and there were times when she copied word for word his writing, without giving him credit.
There is evidence out there for people willing to look for the truth.
But did you read the Great Controversy instead of just seeking out for errors? Did John use other writters in the Bible? when He said that he received visions? He saw the same thing ezekiel saw but I dont see any credit given to Him.
The mistake you made and the other critics are you are looking at the credit of the writings without looking at the message of the writings. Look in the Great Controversy again and you will see the reference where she got her material
I won't deny that I have read what other critics have had to say...but it wouldn't do anyone justice just to accept what they say at face value, and not give the one whom they are criticizing the benefit of the doubt and search out what they've they've said yourself.
So that is what I did. I read what Ellen White had to say, and compared it with the scriptures, especially the sanctuary doctrine, and the part satan plays.
I've searched out the Life Incidents book, along with the TGC, and I plan to show a comparison between the two, hopefully in the next couple weeks. Now, when you say but didn't the bible do it, too...
Are you trying to place her on the same authority as scripture that was God breathed and God-given? More often than not if the scriptures were quoted from somewhere credit was given, you can't deny that.
Ellen white often never gave credit where credit was due, not until....
other people started commenting on exactly how much she copied and borrowed from others, including her husband's work, which sometimes she copied word for word. I'll watch the video..
sorry for the long reply...maybe I should just send a private message...
"I won't deny that I have read what other critics have had to say"
thats all i need to know myhope. I can even go as far to say that you probably have looked at those critics first before actually read her book if you even have.
I really do have nothing further to say like I mentioned in my other comments to you. All I can say is search because your allowing critics to search for you but you took that out of context aswell pointing out things like scapegoat. You can understand the context now
@Myhopeisinhim From my understanding alot of people plagerised and did not give credit because there was no law pertaining to it at the time. Now from my understanding she copied on historical issues and things like that, when it came to prophesy she did not.
@Myhopeisinhim Rev 10:8 And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.
- then down to verse 11 - she was part of the movement proclaiming the coming of the Lord, but after the bitter dissapointment.. was discovered, she continued to prophecy again (V11)
2. That makes no sense for you to say she a prophet accepted that date when she was not a prophet until after and it is sad that you are trying to gather up excuses
3. the meaning was not changed, it was understood the same way the disciples understood that Christ was to come as the lamb of God rather than the conquering king
4. until you know the full story with a humble and open heart, we will always hear a critic comment from you.
