  • I also got me a Fat Gecko and used to shoot outside of the car using a baby-Cushion (works quite similar to Cine-Saddle or Lowrider). So my first tests, using a Top of the Line Panasonic HDC went very good, but when using the fairly big HPX-171e I found it to be too wobbly for me.

I am gonna fetch a Manfrotto 323 for the mod and report back as soon, as I have given it a testrun.

  • HDVbyMG - you are quite right - mounting the camera on a car in the way I showed it on the patio door, would still be a BAD idea!! I did it just to show a large-ish £4,000 camera mounted successfully using the technique.I tried the modified mount out on my car the other day, and the results were quite good. Even if mounting the camera in a lower stress position, i.e. vertically, the revised mount adds a great deal of security. I am just writing to Delkin now re Safety Lines!

  • The 1/4-inch mount remains a weak point andcould fail at the QR plate. But your QR allows us to tighten that weak point, saving the riskto the ca mera's 1/4" socket. Your idea , and makes things more convenient. Horizontal orientation of the support arm for me led to unacceptable vibration. Results are better with the camera suspended from above, possible with the 1/4" socket on top. Ultimately I bought the Drift Innovation HD170 Stealth POV cam. Car club rules here require a safety line.
