@asterchereka Menelik II was orthodox so he very could use the Russian icon, I think you can see some Russian icons in Ethiopia, I know some Abyssinian icon in Russia. There are some disparities of Saints, but Russian orthodox church always wanted to acknowledge all and any rights for the brotherly Ethiopian orthodox church. Only 3-4 Russian officers of Leontiev's team could see, as witnessed, about prayer of Мenelika II, they prayed also, but Russian artilleryman officers could not to prayed.

In 1883 the colonel Аrtamonov was the graduating student of my military university. Do you remember the role of this man for Ethiopian history in relation to defence of the Ethiopian border near White Nile in 1898? Now, I can to read archives of the lieutenant Alexander Shedevr (from Leontiev's team).

@eridory2 Even if most of the anicient Images of Jesus and His Mother are black in color in contrast with the white faces of the nine saints in Northern Ethiopian monastries, Ethiopians (laymen and Liturgiest) have also been influenced by the Michael Angelos version of white Jesus, therefore, for long time new gerations of Ethiopian church artist shave been painting Jesus as white. However, the bible and other anicient images in Europe show that Jesus was actually colored (= black).
