  • Any way to watch your film on-line? It's not being shown anywhere near me.

  • Any Japanese speaking viewer who can explain a bit what he said?

  • TOM, I know some Japanese, but do you think you can out-fit the vid with some subtitles, cause their are probably alot of people wondering what he technique he was describing, not to mention i haven't watched enough Macross yet get dude's name, but much respect , this guy has much potential.

  • why does this need a commercial?

  • doesnt tear-tattoos under the eyes represent pleople killed by that person?

    1 tear per person?

  • @Bejk They can also represent people that the person lost.

  • @Bejk yes however in Japan they usually get things based on aesthetic alone, I'm not saying he didn't kill anyone but that's how many younger Japanese are they will go for a certain group and stick with it like Punk, EGL, Reggae (usually stop once they start looking for marriage).

In USA though it started out that way, but now its also scare tactic to intimidate or protect.

  • is japan badass or is it just me

    Awnser: japan is bad ass

  • the man knows how to look after his facial hair

  • OOHHHHHH GGOOOOOOOOOODDDD I LOVE THIS INSTRUMENT TILL I WAS A LITTLE BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome video. Just wish I understood Japanese. You could subtitle it using Annotations and not lose the original vid page here.

  • This is awesome mate. Thanks for posting this vid.

  • Nice video and music . Cool guy ! Rock on

  • Which came first . . . The ice scraper or the shamisen pick ?

  • excellent!

  • He probably can kill with those hands just as easily, as he can play music with them. I would love to meet him for a shamisen lesson.

  • his syntax is so thick I can't understand him and having a face tattoo is a major NONO even for most yakuza O_O''''

  • so do they still really make the body skins out of cats and dogs? or do they have synthetics now mostly?

  • So 2:13.. Did the lady get hit with the stick or what??? :<

  • 2:18

    ?!? D: thats fast

  • in the US gangs, tear drop tattoos in the corner of your eye usually indicates how many people you have killed. Since this video is called "Tokyo ghetto Shamisen" is he a Japanese gangster? His clothing seems to be symbolic as well.

  • der kann ja nichma richtig deutsch

  • This is more like your nightcllub quality.......shamisen improv......very groovy baby.....

  • God bless this. I hope Japanese culture never dies off.

  • よくわからんがこの人の飄々とした感じがすばらしい

    さらりと宇宙を感じながらとかいえねえって

  • Huh.

See, now I'm wondering if the stigma of tattoos in japanese culture is starting to die off. It's -much- worse in their culture than in western.

  • @silvermoonwolf19 Yeah, tattoos are still not as excepted as they are in the west, but they are getting there.

  • That was cool

  • 2:22 can anyone tell me if that dude is European or Japanese? It's really hard to tell.

  • i want to know what he is saying so bad. this guy rules.

  • He killed someone before! Look at the Tear tatoo on his Eyes xD aha, But Great Music :)

  • this is great!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I used to sit transfixed, listening to this same guy. I had no idea he played at live houses. Fabulous video you made. Makes me homesick...

  • very well done! i bet it was amazing touring with that dude!

  • dam this guy must have shanked some one with that big ass pick to earn his tattoo tear!

  • I'm pretty sure I saw this guy playing on the street one day in Shimbashi - incredible. Open-mouth awe.

  • i can understand parts of what he's saying, but i can't understand it all. is there any way you can put up subtitles?

  • Wow, a japanese hippy

  • japanese ghettos must be awesome

  • HIDE YOUR KIDS !

  • @MistaSly haha this was epic dude, i kno what u mean ))

  • IS that a tear drop under his eye?? lmao

  • Does anybody know the name of the guy's group? I'd like to look them up yet I'm unfortunately monolingual.

  • is this a tsugaru shamisen?

  • yoyogi park?

  • @Diorama42 Lol that is what i was thinking too. So i guess if we both think it, it might actually be yoyogi park. Cause the place with all the stands is i think the exit at harajuku.

  • 昨日渋谷駅で見た。すごい。がんばって。

  • Great playing! Kind of irrelevant but....he's pretty cute :)

  • He's like a Japanese Jimi Hendrix.

  • すごい~~~!

    バンドの名は何ですか? 多分日本一のしゃみせん。。。

    もっと情報はどこ?ページはどこ?

  • @macgyver2210 バンドの名前は 東京月桃三味線 です。

  • This is a really cool instrument - lots of diversity to it. Cool video, too, I really liked how this guy played the shamisen.

  • awesome. Arigatou gozaimaaaaaas

  • hey dude!

    you rock!!!

    really good!!!

should play this on stage more often, and why dont you go play at clubs in the US, or in Europe?

  • Really sweet. I'm just a gaijin and I've just started to learn how to play Shamisen myself, and this gives me inspiration.

  • learn by himself? cool!

  • awesome song at 1:17

  • Please make some sort of posting when you've finished the documentary. I would really love to purchase a copy! (^_^) Mel.

  • real smooth and that dudes killed sumone

  • was that guy often playing in takadanobaba?

  • Of coure music is great... but the player is even more hot :D

  • sugoi

  • OH MY GOSH LOOK AT 2:19

  • @jameslo93 imagine if that batton was a double bladed lightsaber, then it would be even cooler ;) hahaha

  • lol... and if i try that...both my arms would be gone!

  • @jameslo93 yea that would be brutal.

  • ye rly epic :D

  • this is tooo fucking cool. the music, his passion, all just too cool for words.

  • Such an exciting tone! Beautiful.

  • Do they have any cds released i could buy in europe... or maybe buy and download the album online ?

would be nice if anyone could help me out...

  • I really like the track at 2 mins in, quite inspiring. Would like to hear some full tracks from this band if anyone can give me a link :)

  • look them up on myspace

  • @tomswindell Go get a real guitar dumbass.

  • @Macsk8ing Typical skating idiot. How old are you, 12?

  • @EknanTheDeath Fuck you I'm 17

  • @Macsk8ing Typical answer from a Noobtube troll-in-training. I see your monumental intellect backs up the fact that you're a "big boy." I'm sorry if I've offended you, oh Great One. Would like me to make reparation for my evil deeds? I'll tuck the big boy in before his bedtime, you see? All better now.

  • @EknanTheDeath man, you suck.

  • @Macsk8ing Yes, I'm quite sorry about that. Would you like to further my point about you being an ingrate mongoloid even more, or would you like to call it quits for the day?

  • @EknanTheDeath Dude, it's not my fault you're an asian.

  • @Macsk8ing Thank you, oh Enlightened One, for teaching me that Caucasian is the same as Asian. I wasn't aware, so I thank you. Now could you please teach me more? I want some of your dirty secrets like how you get in bed with your mom so much.

  • @EknanTheDeath Hahaaha, your words man, stop playing fantasy games haha.

  • @Macsk8ing I'm sorry Einstein Jr. I speak English. Please use correct sentence structure if you're trying to convey something meaningful to me, however I doubt you are.

  • @EknanTheDeath Hahahahaha You are fucking funny with that ''Big Boy'' comment, i seriusly ROFLMAO'D hahaha!!

  • since when having a tatoo is like being an yakuza? so, I, blond man, blue eyes, with a tatoo on my back, am I an yakuza too? that`s too bad for me reading things like these...

  • in japan tatoos are assosiated with the yakuza. if you show a tatoo in public in japan its like saying your yakuza

  • maybe you're right, I'm living in japan almost 6 years now and, I've never show it for anyone except my wife. anyway, I'm not yakuza, :D, too badly if were I am.

  • and you're a foreigner. it won't mean that you're yakuza because you are from another culture where tatoos don't mean the same thing as in japan

  • this tattoo

    is he a Yakuza

  • hes got a tear drop tattoo.

    hes pretty gangster

  • this guy has band? I'd love to hear shamishen mixed with other music!!

  • I warmly recommend you the Yoshida Brothers, then!!! :-)

  • @TheScreamingRetard why should him?

  • This is fantastic- beautifully shot and the music is just lovely. I wish I spoke Japanese well enough to understand all of it, rather than just little bits. I would love to see this documentary when it's finished. :)

  • 1:28 I can hear the Blues :)

Feature length documentary on Japanese music..

can't wait. There are gonna be subtitles im guessing ?

  • He's talking about his roots in punk music! Very cool dude. He played live today in Koenji Tokyo

  • Punk ! Never in a million years would i of imagined that ! Incredible.

I knew i could hear the Blues in there, but it was Punk !

  • Excellent

  • The story of his experience with Shamisen reminds me a lot of myself. I also play Shamisen and am inspired by the spirit of punk, rock, metal, hip hop... all of that stuff. music that originally was never associated with Shamisen back in the day when it was considered just a Geisha or kabuki thing. But today is a new world for the shamisen. just look at what is out there.

Hyper Metal, High Speed Gypsy techno Shamisen

    music.

It`s out there today! Plus used in American buegrass, Jazz etc.

  • Thanks for such a great comment I hope to sort out a translation soon.

  • Wow! Thanks. Oh and I am very interested to hear more about your music documentary.

  • I'd love to help

  • @shamisendemon Can you recommend some bands in "high speed gypsy shamisen" genre? That sounds literally right up my alley.

  • Cheers Tom...well shot + informative as usual + keep up the world music themes

  • always love your vieos Tom just shows how diverse music is across the world. Happy New Year.

  • drop d tuning on that shamisen?

  • lovely tom looks great in HD too

  • fantastic stuff... bigUP for this one Tom, hope all is well, Happy New Year. Kaptin

  • Tom, well done! Perfect filming/editing, I love it!

Reminds me of SO many tings like Mali with the Guitard blues from Niafunke but also Seattle with the rock scene.

One comment, You need to make one with english sub-titles!

    Many Thanks in Advance.

    Yoro
