You can get away with letting people hang outside the door with an at-grade train or possibly with an elevated (MAYBE) but for obvious reasons of fitting into the tunnel, a subway train cannot leave the station until everyone is INSIDE. That's why Japan has "packers".

This video is great! I like it. I usually catch a train at Andheri in this fashion only. But its better to be at the doors to get some fresh air....
