Bodhidharma (indian) have taught a series of external exercises called the Eighteen Arhat Hands , and an internal practice called the Sinew Metamorphosis Classic.Brahman monk from South India" (645 CE), "the third son of a Brahman king of South India" (ca. 715 CE).[1] Some traditions specifically describe Bodhidharma to be the third son of a Pallava king from Kanchipuram. one early account claiming that he arrived during the Liú Sòng Dynasty
I love how this guy is out doing the form while all the ancient kung fu masters of the universe are on youtube telling people they are doing it wrong :)
A number of 20th century Okinawian masters are reported to have studied at Shaolin. Amonung them were Chojun Miyagi, and Hohan Sokan.
One of the oldest series of katas were the Nihanchin, which are reported to be from or even before Shaolin. I can see elements of them in the movements shown here.
@Bebopchiflow "Yeah, I saw 'em headin' South! They were in a hurry!"
LOL! I don't know, and I'm sorry if you are mad now.... I couldn't resist the chance to joke. The way you asked, made it seem like it just happened, and it was an old western type movie, in a saloon... never mind, I probably just sound stupid... WELL! Amitofo to you, good Sir/Mam! Keep practicing your Art!
why is is on every kung fu clip theres a post about this master doing it wrong or holding back information or leaving movements out ...... saying this does not increase your knowledge or make u look cool
well partialy becouse many forms have varieation and teachers all probubly have 100000 resons why thier way is best so when people see a diferent way of doing it than the one they learned they asume it`s wrong if you have taken geometry you know what asuming does
because martial art is just exactly what the name implies. it's an art. it's not a set of movements that needs to be done exactly the way it always has been done.
movements might not be the same but his posture, his stance, his application, and technique are all correct.
This is definately Shao-Lin type of Traditional movement, "NOT" contemporary,gymnastic,floor-routine,competition form that 'salcanzonieri' called incorrectly 'wushu'. Wu-Shu 'means' Martial Skills! In China when you talk about 'our' slang term for kung-fu,it is actually Wu-Shu! The 'modern,overly-gymnastic,floor-routine,non-martial intent forms has been 'labled' incorrectly,so, 'NOW' the new negative slang-term over here is wu-shu, which translates into nothing more than 'Martial Skills'
yea its annoying when people in america mis-used the term wushu n kung fu without realizing there actual meaning and difinitions. glad someone here knows whats up!
@MemphisFlash yea kung fu is very good i just fucking hate some kung fu that uses gymnastics and fancy stuff like that. Just like bruce lee said "absorb what is useful, throw what is not" in this case is the flips, stuff like that. So in other words simplicity is the key to make the art efficient and brutal, not fancy work like what u say =) peace be upno u see ya
This performance is clearly altered for public consumption. It's missing the internal mechanics, and is only an abridged version of the set.
Most of the clips you see on the net, taught at the lower levels in the Shaolin schools, or available on DVD's are abridged versions of the sets. They intentionally hold back the body methods, and leave out key moves through the forms. It's common knowledge.
It doesn't matter who he 'is'. This is clearly an incomplete version of the 18 hands because it doesn't have 18 movements in it. After 1,500 years it's hardly likely that anyone would be practising the original set anyway.
The Shaolin Encyclopedia shows this set and it is has more moves and some are in a different order. This looks more "wushu" than it does in the Shaolin Encyclopedia.

I can see how the Okinawans used this as a basis for thier kata.

Actually they used other styles, like the Fujian crane styles, but not Shaolin.

This isn't all the moves to this set.
It clearly has been altered or moves forgotten.
The Shaolin Encyclopedia shows this set and it is has more moves and some are in a different order. This looks more "wushu" than it does in the Shaolin Encyclopedia.
