  • With that shooting I see why you need such a large caliber.

  • At one minute it blew a fire ring ha cool.

  • Searched for this american masterpiece

Came to a Al qaeda training video.

  • those gloves??? and the bear must be wearing ear muffs...

  • Thanks for sharing :) I bought my S&W 500 .50 cal snub nose a few years ago in CA and its never been shot. I'm too chicken **it to shoot it. I'm not a very strong girl and know I would show up on a YouTube video "being owned" and the largest caliber you can shoot at our indoor ranges where I live is .45. I bought it to collect. Makes a great conversation piece.

  • @TheGilalady ive watched ladies shooting this gun. i own one myself. and although male im on the small statured side. the ladies have to leafe through all the stay in the kitchen stereotypical crap out there, or comments on genitalia etc. which is BS. imho many times hte ladies outshoot, and control this gun better than men several times their size. take it out into some desert land somewhere an dlet off a few rounds. yes it kicks, liek a hangover. after a night of bar hopping lol

  • at 5 yrds that "polar bear" would've fucked you up....

  • exelente arma

  • I was waiting for "...or is it?"

  • 22 bears watched this video..

  • lose the damn music.

  • press in the midlle of 1:08 and you'll see the flame:)

  • thumbs up if you pressed pause to see the flames:)

  • @pino98pinoKC give who the thumbs up. i gave the video one because of flames. lol

  • shit press pause at 1:06 or 1:07 and youll see see the bright flame

  • Good lord there are a lot of holes in the ceiling of that range!

  • to the person shooting this gun, if you would of used the dubble action by cockin the hammer back b4 shooting you would have a better stance on the gun and a better group on target

  • terrorist music

  • music sux

  • Are you wearing a gas mask?

  • your a brave man.....

  • what is this - Arabian Nights soundtrack???

  • i used to think it was a 1 inch barrel i guess thats because i only saw pictures

  • perfect power to take down a charging bear. there was a bear in alaska that killed a backpacker, and when they found the man's campsite all they found other than his gear was a .38 special. the bear was taken down by a deer hunter who made a crackshot with his 7mm rifle. when they examined the bear, they found meat remains in its gut an 38 cal shots in it. if it can stand up to a .38, you know right then that you need real power.

  • @cripin2021 A .38 Special is not particularly powerful. It has it's roots in older, black powder designs and is very low pressure. It's barely adequate for stopping people. It's completely inadequate as a bear defense. I'm not an expert on stopping bears, but I'd imagine a hot .357 Magnum for revolvers and 10mm for semi-autos are the minimum needed for stopping brown or polar bears.

  • @Nater245689 well sadly for the backpacker, he didnt know that and so he got killed. he just didnt know that the .38 wouldnt save him. The lesson here: Always pack a magnum!

P.S. I myself have seen a big bear, its height on all four's was the same as the roof of our jeep. This was crazy, cuz it was just a black bear & black bear don't usually grow big here in oregon.

  • @Nater245689 I wouldn't bother with a 10mm if I was in fear of bear attack . MAybe a hot .357 mag. but personally carry a .44 mag. or larger for large animals such as bear.

  • @500SWMAGOPERATOR Heavy 10mm loads and heavy .357 Magnum loads are basically the same from a kinetic energy standpoint if you're shooting them out of pistols with reasonable barrel lenghts (4-5"). You can have a round with 700ft-lbs of energy in a pistol that holds 15+1 (Glock 20) or 8+1 (1911) versus a round with 790ft-lbs of energy in a pistol that holds 6-rounds.

  • @Nater245689 If I only had my choice of .357 or 10 mm I would deffinatly go with the .357. I am a big bore fan so the smallest caliber centerfire pistol I own is a Ruger super redhawk chambered in .44 magnum. My hardest hitting pistol is capable of close to 3,000 foot pounds and has the ability to fire a 700 grain slug. I don't think there is much that could withstand a round like that and still function.

  • @500SWMAGOPERATOR I have a Smith Model 29 4", a Ruger Redhawk in .45 Colt, and an interested in Colt's 'snake' revolvers. I don't see the point in 'super-ulta-magnum' revolvers. If I need 3000ft-lbs of energy, I'll go with a rifle. That's just too much pistol for me and pretty much everyone else.

  • I`ll take 2 :)

  • sorry, the bear would be picking your meat from its teeth with that chunk of metal. nobody ever gives the bear credit for speed,

  • Amazing! On 5 yards it goes through the target as if it was paper!

  • Meh... I'd want at least a 6" ported barrel.

  • You guys think thats a pistol?????????

you need to check out the Pfifer Zeliska. Makes the 500 look like a .22

and uses the full size .600 Magnum, Big Game cartridge, the thing could break Chuck Norris's wrist!!!!!!!!

  • @admiralfaffy - I would classify a hand gun as a weapon you can "HOLD IN YOUR F****** HAND" That monstrosity is a joke, it's just a custom build oversize revolver nobody can actually shoot let alone hold in their hand. This is a real gun.

  • 18 people couldn't wait the extra minute and a half "contemplation period" after the range footage ended.

  • GOSH!!! THATS LIKE THE POWER OF THE SPACE SHUTTLE IN YOUR WRIST!

  • Arizona has a few bears that like to snack on people and here you can just put on a holster and carry that cannon all day long. You can carry it in the open or wear a coat over it and it's perfectly OK as long as you've reached the magic age of 21. If you happen to live in the People's Republik of Kalifornia they are now working on laws about carrying unloaded guns. What do you do in that case? Besides the animals have more rights than you have.

  • wow. wow. i dont think anybody wants to feel the bite that comes wit that loud bark. lol@the dude that wuz shooting. if u look closely u can tell from the first shot it gains his respect. hahhahhaahahaha.

  • c'mon man i one hand dual weild spray those things also, my name is thor

  • Nice group.

  • the music ruins the sound of it...

  • Hornady xtp makes awsome light shows in the day and the accuracy is pritty good (350grain xtp). The bullet is an added bonus, the flash and boom is enough to kill em :)

  • If you practice on the range, you can get bloody good with it, dont forget all the flash and recoil comes after the bullet has left the barrel

  • @Rockers54 and after beating your wrist. I bought an Airlight S&W 44 Mag. Painfull enough.

  • @Davidautofull I wonder just how much of an advantage the 500 snub is over say, a 4inch .44mag with a hot big game round. I'm sure the 500 is more powerful, but at what point does increased power become wasted power

  • @grizz474 i suppose at the point where it cant be managed. thats what im saying about my airlite 44 mag. im six ft 220 lbs and it hurts to shoot it, so there wont be much practise with bullets over a buck each. like deer hunting though, if i pull it and defend someones life sound and recoil go away. control becomes the problem. i am a gun nut. after shooting some 50 bmg in the bolt action you can put on an AR i knew i did not need one. probably the same with the 500.

  • Weird a** music....

  • perfect bears wount wanna screw around no more

  • pfft who brings a bear to a .500 fight.

  • That'll make a good anti car theft tool. Someone opens your door at gunpoint at a stoplight and tells you to get out. You teach them a lesson under their chin.

  • @mikeb1444 hmm i wonder if someone can shoot one of these sideways, ( out of a car in self defense of course)

  • @yamahonkawazuki

You'd have to set the rear sight so you get a sight line that's parallel with the bore. That's why shooting sideways never works. At an angle, the sights give you a lateral direction instead of trajectory and direction compensation. LOL!

  • @mikeb1444 i know, i was thinking in your vehicle, and someone comes up to carjack ya. and you grab teh 500 to shoot @ them. @ point blank range. say no more than 2 or 3 feet away. no need to line up the shot.

  • @yamahonkawazuki

Oh, I don't see why not. The only reason it's not advised to shoot sideways is for that sighting reason I just listed. I wouldn't want to have the gun inside the car when I fire it. I got to fire the 8" barrel one in an indoor range last tuesday and the concussion of it was really hard. In the confines of a car, The blast might cause permanent hearing damage to you, and obliterate the target.

  • @yamahonkawazuki or break car parts. yeah the target would be a pile of mush

  • he most likely gonna go to the woods smothered in honey and bar-b-q sauce and kicking little cubs around just to have a reason to shoot that , i was gonna say pee shooter, but im gonna say watermelon launcher, are 50cent's nightmare gun!!!!

  • you can probably repent for shooting someone with any smaller gun, but if you take more then one shot at somebody with that....... do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollars.... straight to hell for you buddy...... lmao!!!!! x p

  • now thats My type of gun. M9s n DEs are so........small n weak

  • try pausing the video as it fires, the fireball is spectacular!

  • mean while in a bunker in Iraq......

  • lol, load all the chambers fire first shot and shoot the next shot you could be facing the wrong way lol. Don't forget to wear head gear and body armor

  • on the third round i saw an orange ring halfway through flight damn they move fast

  • big kick back its like the 44 magnum fire it once and its a wall hanger because you wont want to fire it again people are going to buy one and never it much just because of the kick and it is real use is for quarter to a half ton bare

  • have you ever killed anyone with it? you should shoot justin beaver

  • @MrBossballin LMAO he's gonna go "Beaver" hunting.

  • after you shoot the bear, you should skin it and eat all the tasty bear meat

  • what the hecks up with the near minute and a half of nothing?

  • On the third shot it looks like you can see the bulet break the sound barrier

  • chuck norris' 3yo son uses this pistol

  • Yogi will NEVER get his picnic basket!

  • WOW,what a trip. What was the range you where shooting?Hey thats is cool music, who is the artist? tyhxs for vid

  • particulate mask? do you have terrible reactive airway dz or something?

  • Thats not a smith and wesson 500 mag!!!!

  • @scitautemotorider it is but it has short barrel and it's for to stop, scare, kill ... a bear

  • this music sounds awfully persian or maybe arab?

  • Holy sh$t!!! Talk about recoil! :D Too bad I´m not allowed to own one of these bad boys here in Denmark. Gotta move to the states :)

  • omfg scarry

  • 1 of the times he fires i think it is the third u see a blue ring of fire cumming from the gin

  • It has tremendous recoil like the desert eagle.

Probably not an ideal weapon for use by military or law enforcement. It might be a good for defense against large animals such as bears.

  • You don't wait for the bad guy to come from behind the car...you shoot through the car!!

  • One of the opening statements is bullshit, stating "the 500 Smith is the most powerful round...." BULLSHIT ! ! ! what about a 465 Ruger? look up the ballistics and see why Smith and wesson had to change their trademark From "most powerful" to "Biggest"

  • Most Bears however, except for maybe a sow, do bluff charges, there is a video of a woman, repeadly being bluff charged, it is a matter of standing your ground. She actually chases it away. You can probably type in " Bear Bluff charge" and find it easily

  • Damn, that might be too much power.

  • lol you better hope you have a slow bear if you shoot like him

  • It would take some practice to better shoot the gun, I believe...It does comically kick though...of course the most powerful production handgun would likely do that...It is however suppose to be intended on letting a Bear know, Go away..People in a situation of adrenalin, and fear, would likely have a hard time shooting this gun more than once, without practice, and proper anticipation, especially if a large agressive Grizzly is charging you, but I suppose one good shot would prevent death..

  • @MrShannon888 And if you miss the bear one shot would make your own end painless.

  • its bear spray

  • if i ever buy this gun it will definatly be with a six inch barrel my wrists would be gone if i got a 2 inch

  • Ya wimp, whip it out and go all quickdraw on that bear!

Its a joke so dont be hating on me.

  • The really great thing about this gun is that is has just the right amount of recoil to leave your wrist in tact. :) and by the way i don't think you'll need to shoot the bear. If i were a bear and saw any human holding that chunk of metal, id be sure to find camp food elsewhere, haha

  • @crazylingo yeah i think id find another pikanick basket

  • i like the helmet :P

  • I like how you're going DA, very realistic. If the bear gets within 5 yards, you better not miss! For bear defense, 7-10 yards is not unreasonable to train at.

  • "smith&wesson .500, makes a desert eagle look like a .22...."

  • Big Bertha is a good name for her ! lol

  • Oh shit bears!

  • dam, im surprised they even let you shoot that indoors. my local indoor range would definitely give me the gtfo look if i pulled that thing out.

  • I would suggest single action on a revolver of this caliber for a little more precision.

  • @Humperdink18 ...It has a 2" barrel. Not really a match-grade race gun. Anything you'll need a snubnose 500 to protect yourself from won't be difficult to hit.

  • Geez, when you said the gun didn't have a ported barrel in your review of the kit, it made me shudder to think of how it handled! XD I can see here that it really has a lot of force to the recoil. But as you said, it's a last-resort defensive tool, and so you probably wouldn't use it for long-range shooting.

  • That's pretty freaking amazing.....how much do the bullets cost? I don't really know how serious S&W are with this, to be honest it seems like a bit of a gimmick.

If it was me, I'd go for a decent hunting rifle, or even a shotty with a solid rifled slug. Having said that I live in Australia and the biggest bear we have is small and grey with fluffy ears and Japanese tourist line up to have their photo taken nursing one.

  • holy shit , thats what i call a recoil^^

  • What is this music?

  • Might be one of those guns that after the third round you're thinking "this sucks." I enjoy shooting my .38 snubby, but this is no .38 snubby. As shown, with some good shooting gloves and a break in between, should be able to get good groups out of a session. How much worse is it than say a .357 snub or a short .44 mag in terms of recoil?

  • @NoiseMostBeautiful I have a Smith and wesson performance center 500 with the 10.5 inch ported barrel so far i have fired 300,350 and 400 grain bullets (all my handloads). With the weight of the 10.5 inch barrel it has less muzzle jump then my ruger super redhawk chambered in 44 mag loaded with 180 gr hp bullets. But as for the target the .500 is alot more distructive.

  • wow, at 1:16 look at the poster and after the shot, u can see the shock wave push the poster

  • if i wanted to take out a small car i would take that gun

  • I thought Darth Vader only used a light saber. Good to see him in flannel though.

  • impressive group man great gun and great review!!!!!!!

  • I was standing about 3 lanes down from a gentleman with this same gun, but the 10-inch barrel. He was shooting his own reloads (which he admitted were pretty hot), and I could feel the heat tear through my lane about 3 seconds after each shot. Crazy cool firearm!

  • Do you really think you could hit a bear with that haveing that kind of recoil? idk man i think that gun is kinda useless without ports (at least ports)

  • the bullet is in the bear's skull before the grip even presses against your palm. Reacquiring the target with a short barrel weapon like this is considerably quicker than with a longer barrel. Ports on a barrel this short would be pointless, there is insufficient fulcrum and the loss of velocity would outweigh any gains.

  • wow...do you conceal carry it. lol

  • I wanna go to a shooting range. What are the steps taken to do that?

    Benson and Tonic

    myspace/bensonandtonicproductions

  • wake up, get dressed, walk outside, walk to the nearest range or gun store and ask the guy at the counter.

Did you really need to be told that or are you just spamming for your crappy myspace band

  • aracefan2001 you have done a nice job dealing with some of these difficult comments. I'm cleaning out my favorite video list and yours is going to stay. Nice handling of a very heavy recoiling firearm.

  • Gunny shot one of these a while back on Mail Call. Damn near tore his arm off :D

  • i wouldent rob your house

  • accuracy 5/10

    fire rate 6/10

    stopping power 20/10

  • 2:16 OMG!!!

  • Rather have to carry the weight of a Shotgun in the bush than to have 2 sprained wrists and a dead grizzly on top of me. Just an opinion.

  • Probably, but then again carrying a shotgun everywhere in the wild is probably not the best thing to do. The kit has a bunch of survival gear ( although you can probably find a better survival kit else where )

  • Still a pretty nice gun though.

  • @SW627 HAHAHA,, LMAO

  • that bullet would ruind winnie the pooh's day for sure...

  • i like the tribal music.

  • I'm pretty sure shooting a gun that big makes you a bona fide conservative redneck. JK.

  • That first shot was a doozie..lol

  • You may be a good shot, but you're a terrible film editor.

  • Doesn't Look Like A Very accurate gun powerful but nothing i would take to a gun fight.

  • It's for a bearfight, not a gunfight. :)

  • no its for taking down a jet!

  • @aracefan2001 it is a gunfight wepon if u put the 6 inch barrel on it

  • @aracefan200 id rather have a hand grenade

  • @aracefan2001 You could kill a tank with it too though.

  • @aracefan2001 ahahahah

  • @jonhmclane91 Agreed. I had a similar group at 100 yards in one of my videos. He needs to stop flinching. Why anyone would buy a snubnose is beyond me... snubnose and big bore do not go hand in hand

  • @jonhmclane91 The snubnose version isn't as accurate as the longer barrel due to lowered weight of the gun... plus, this guy looks a bit novice compared to the other shooters you can see in other videos. Just sayin...

Also, this gun is more for hunting... and if you were to use it for defense (which is all a gun should EVER be used for other than hunting), it would be more for intimidation. This weapon could fire through more than five people if you lined them right.

  • @jonhmclane91 When the barrel of a gun is only 2 3/4 inches, don't expect much accuracy, expect a really loud bang and lots of recoil.

  • @jonhmclane91 yea this gun is designed for big game that isnt going to shoot back

  • @jonhmclane91 you'd only need to land one shot and i'm pretty sure the gun fight would be over.

  • @jonhmclane91 yeah the gun is all to blame on the accuracy. it couldnt POSSIBLY be the shooter. though it does have a short barrel i highly doubt that matters at 5 yards away. so your comment is a fail.

  • @jonhmclane91 you wouldnt need to hit your target just the size of the gun and sound of the round would be enough

  • lol terrorist music j/k

  • No. It's just cool music (I know you're just kidding).

  • Definitely my next handgun! How much are those rounds each? I love the camera angle and sound but that music really should be left out for the complete focus and attention can be attributed to the amazing blast of your 2" 500!

  • The rounds are pricey. They can run 50 - 60 for a box of 20. But you won't want to shoot more than a few at a time anyway.

  • @aracefan2001 realy 50-60 usd for 20 rounds? are they made of gold or somthing?

  • @187LEX1 Look at the ballistics and compare them 2 a 465, if U reload U would like it, the 44 Magnum is only in third place by a few ft. lbs!

  • DAMN!!!!! I FELT THAT

  • The Luffwaffe just called, they want to who's been shooting down their Stukas with a revolver.

  • is he wearing a helmet?

  • I wear a respirator when I shoot indoors. Cuts down on inhaling lead and powder residue. The range owner wears it every single time he enters the range, and I had one lying around. So I figured, if it's good enough for him, then it couldn't hurt.

  • o ok i see ya thats a good idea never thought of that but i hardly ever go to an indoor range

  • I don't know much about guns so can someone explain what a ported and unported barrel is.

  • Ported has holes in the barrel, more or less. Which causes gas to fly in strategic directions, causing lower recoil. No ports, well, shooting something like this ported would be better than shooting it unported.

  • A ported barrel has holes or vents in the top of the barrel. It helps prevent muzzle jump. Most smaller caliber guns aren't ported. However with the s&w 500 it is necessary to help manage recoil. Hope this helped.

  • At 5 yrds your grouping is to say not very good! That pistol has to much recoil for a quick target reaquisition. I have the 460 with a 6.5" ported barrel and if the first shot misses the bear who is running towards you.......You may be to slow for a second shot. Try shooting it single action that will improve your accuracy

  • As a general rule, I don't shoot revolvers single action (ever). If you're in a combat scenario, are you going to have time to cock the hammer before every shot? Also, I disagree that the accuracy is unacceptable. Remember that this is a 2" unported barrel, and the intended target is a large animal not a human. Of course a 6.5" ported barrel is easier to shoot, but are you really going to tote that around with you in the woods? In any case, thanks for the post, I appreciate your feedback.

  • wat does port and unport barrel do?

  • A ported barrel has vents that redirect propellant gases with the effect of countering both recoil of the gun and unwanted rising of the barrel during rapid fire.

  • A ported barrel allows escaping gases to be projected upward or outward. The force of the gases ejecting from the port "compensates" for or minimizes the recoil. Basically, the gas shooting up pushes your barrel down (resulting in less muzzle climb). This is the only 500 Mag I'm aware of without a ported barrel. Even the 8" model has one.

  • the model .500 i shot really wasnt that bad. but then again, the weight of it helped a little to counter the recoil.

  • i hope you have a name for her ,THE BITCH lol5*

  • dead polar bear for sure

  • I have a bad feeling about that gun being used for bear defense. First the grouping at about 5 yards were less then stellar and at longer distance you might miss. Secondly the recoil of that gun looks so bad that under pressure you might not be focused enough counter the recoil and you might get smack in the face with it and be in a really bad situation with you injured and the bear is still coming at you.

  • If the bear is only 5 yards im pretty sure panic is more than set in lol and umm yeah prob should try it out to maybe 20 - 30 yards

  • I feel like i'm watching "Aladin"
