Arrau's mastery is beyond dispute. What always impresses me the most is his self-concealment from the performance, and his promotion of the music and the composer. There is no "see what wonderful fingers I have" or "see what a profound pianist I can be" - it is just the composer and his art which comes through.

I like this sonata so much! And Arrau plays it so great!

Classic Arrau, complete with his trademark rich, weighty tone and liberal of the sustain pedal.
This is one of my favorite pianists, and one I had the pleasure and privelege of meeting twice, during the latter stages of his life.
Arrau kept recording and performing up until his death in 1991.
