He didn't think Windu was a traitor. Palpatine played him like a fiddle, making him yearn for the power and question whether the Jedi really *were* any better. Palpatine goads Windu into planning to kill him rather than bring a trial, providing the momentary rationalization that Anakin needs to see the Jedi as hypocrites and do what he wants, even though he knows deep down that he's wrong.

Sidious actually looked like a badly aged 80-90 year old in ROTJ which Ian would be thereabouts in 20 years time around the time of the original trilogy. Ironicly enough Ian actually looked more threatening and dangerous before his overkill transformation. Afterwards just looks like a spiderman villain or something it's dumb.
