i never thought that army woman personnel are deployed in places such as this. i thought they are all in HQs and Offices in Kabul, doing some inventories, reports, etc. because i have a classmate but he is a man, not a woman, who is deployed in iraq doing jobs in a computer. he had never fired a single bullet in the war zone. but at least, he will have lots of stories when he gets home
I'd booby trap everything for about a mile around that camp. You might not be able to see the Taliban but you'll sure as hell be able to hear them when they trip something.
If the soldiers can't see the enemy & the outpost is so isolated, why aren't they utilising armed drone planes to search & locate the taliban using thermal imaging? Eyes in the sky - I've seen this method used recently with a Company of US soldiers in Marjah, Southern Afghanistan - surely this would make return fire more accurate & give patrols an idea of enemy movements & when ambushes are being set up?
@davekaye2 we used them as often as we could, but with such a limited amount of drones it is only the higher priority missions that get them. Not the every day fire fights.
@simbiote3 yeah i understand - but these must be regarded as crucial areas for taking the fight to the Taliban, where the presence of small pockets of troops act as bait to lure them out - this is where that kind of asset would be at it's most potent - it's a fact that British troops have been fighting without the right equipment & resources for some time now - is it the same with the US forces?
Ever heard of video editing? You cut out the boring scenes and piece together the more exciting segments to form one coherent clip.
Probably the reason why the news report looked so staged to you; cos the narrative structure flows so smoothly...
IMO, I think it's real; too much energy and resources to stage something of this magnitude. Moreover, there are dozens of conflicts sprouting across the globe, why fake something when there are other alternatives to report on?
and yeah, you should watch part 2 of the series. It depicts the cruel reality of the war, one of the soldier was killed by friendly mortar fire. No reason for them to stage a person's death.

How would dozens of sniper teams with thermal optics go? hard to hide from that i figure

if the taliban set up a well aimed morter with a welltrained crew they could blow that base very easy
very exposed position

i guess there are less or more men in restrepo. don't think that the U.S. gov would publish the real number of troops stationed up there.
i mean that would be - rather, well, dangerous. wouldn't it?
but maybe the taliban already know how many soldiers are up there anyways..

@Beanmaster73 Probably because they're stretched out. Afghanistan has way too many random and remote villages to simply flood with troops.
