Hello! Thanks for the memories! I went to Lily Hill Middle School for the 5th-8th grades in the late 70's. I was wondering if you knew what had became of it and of Wagner High School? Those were the best school years of my life with the most relaxed teachers and faculty ever! Appreciate any info you might have regarding this. Thanks!
Many thanks for sharing this video, I was stationed there with the 3TFW/3rd AGS Weapons Loading section back in 1980-83. Clark was the best assignment I had during my career and met some really great friends both military and civilian alike. I had the opportunity to visit Clark back in 2005 and although alot of the buildings were gone, the remaining buildings kept you famililar with your surroundings. Thanks again and as they said then and still do now..mabuhay! and salamat po!
I was stationed At Clark AB from 1981-87, 3 Combat Support Group at CBPO. My on-base residence was 1702 74th Place, right across from the Library and PLDT ( Philippine Long Distance Telephone). My family and I loved the base and ewnjoyed our tour there. It was sad we had to leave to for another permanent change of station (PCS). So much change at Clark now. Wish there were more captionson this video.
Thanks Virgil for the videos! I was stationed with the 6005th AIRPS sq from 1982 to 1987 and loved every day at Clark. It was a large important part of my life!
I was stationed at Clark AB from 1985-1989, Egress shop. I hope to go back some day. The place i always wanted to go to was Thailand (Bangkok) and now i'am close to retirement and never thought i would be able to go but now i'am closer to going than ever. I will swing through the PI if i have a chance early, but if not, someday. The retirement laws are better in Thailand.
Does anyone know Gary Dale in Air Force in Clark Base? Im looking for my father and my mother name is Josephine.. And my father name is Gary dale, thats what my mom told me. 1984 to 1988 he was station around there but I know in 1987 he was there.

I was at Clark AB from 1977 to 1984 with the 374th FMS, USAF Hosp Clark, 656th TAC Hosp, 19th ASF, USAF Regional Med Center Clark. Best assignment in my entire AF career and it was the best memories I had. Live at base housing at 771-C Samar Street. My first child, a daughter was born at Clark AB and she is now 27 years old! There will never be another base like Clark AB. Again, thanks for the memories! Dan D. AF Ret.
I was in the 3rd Security Police Squadron while there form 85-88. Man this is one place that I would never forget. Just looking at the video brings back alot of fond memories of people I met there. One of the bests times of my life. I was only 19 years old and full of life.

I've been back many times too since the base closed, but not since 2006. I was at Osan/Kun for 7.5 yrs too. Went on a few Cope Ts. The last time in 91 just before Pinatubo. The TDY guys took over AC whenever they rolled in. Been in AK since I retired in 91. Guess I won't ever stop going back. There's no better feeling in the world than walking out of a bar like La Bamba half drunk at 4PM, that blinding sun hits you in the face, and then realizing you have the rest of the night to run the town ;)
hey sounds like we have a few things in common. I was in Kunsan and Suwon from Aug 81 to May 85 straight through. First the Kun and then Suwon. I was in the DCM complex at the Kun and Command Post at Suwon with the A-10's. But I still highly prefer the P.I. anytime. Man that place was great in the day!! People that have never been there just don't know how great it was. When's the next time you're going? I'm going to get loaded up on San Miguel and Red Horse!!
Yeah I actually retired from AF in 01 not 91. I was in Osan 83 and at Clark 84-88. Kunsan-Osan 90-93 and my last 3.5 yrs in ROK 95-98.
You're right, no point in telling folks who weren't in the PI about it. I used to think those PI stories were BS too. I plan on going back summer 2010. Always talked up the PI to everyone. Now a lot of the single AF guys I talked to and took trips with have retired there. Who can blame them? Somehow I don't think I could convince my wife to go. LOL
i was married and my wife never cared to retire there. Now I'm single again and I'm going back. I love the Philippinos they are great and the women are so hot and great personalities. Man I love that place no matter what!! Last time I went was in 2009 Jan/Feb. Rode space-A all the way to Guam and then comm air. I got a hope out of Memphis after visiting my folks. Great times!!! Memphis Guard flies regular all the way to Osan and back.
Well you just got back. Tenn-Guam on a hop? That saved you some bucks. I'm from western NC myself. I think if I were a single guy I would be looking to move to the PI. I lived there in the 80's but had to go to work everyday. Seeing those guys down at the VFW who are 60-70+ yrs old bouncing their new babies on their laps with big smiles on their faces does my heart good. What a life! The women in the PI are the best, always smiling and joking. Can't wait now. Next summer is a LONG way off.
Ain't no better feeling than arriving in MNL and walking down that knobby rubber floor to Customs and then past the baggage P/U counter. Out the front and that heat smacks you in the face. The hotel sends a car/driver and I make sure they have a cooler of San Migoo on ice. I've OFFICIALLY arrived when he starts cruising down Roxas and I crack open that first SM. I'm taking in all the sites and sounds all the way to AC. Check in the hotel, shower, hit the ville. Man it don't get no better.
I recently saw an episode of the TV show called TAPS (its about a team of ghost hunters) and guess which place they went to? Clark Air Base, the base hospital. It's a shell now and looks very bad and they actually picked up evps there.
Thanks for writing. They were great games under the lights in front of almost everyone on and off base.
In our off duty time we gathered on Fields Avenue at The New Yorker.
I realize most of what we had is now gone but it is nice to know there is someone out there who has some shared experiences, especially as we age. Marty
Anyone out there who was at Clark AB in 1969 and 1970 who played football. I was on the Green Hornets team . Also, I lived with cooks in the 6200 ABW services Squadron. Please rspond. I have found a couple og guys from those days and it is a wonderful feeling to talk about those days. Marty Ford
I was at Clark 84-88. TDY 89 and 90. My favs were places like Port Orient (orient express), Smut Hut, For Your Eyes Only, Red Baron, Nipa Hut, Holy City Zoo, Murphy's, Hobo, DMZ, Maverick City...the only one left today is DMZ. The first night I was there I had an improcessing appointment at 0730 and woke up on the bar in the Little Wheel. LOL The best years of my life. It's something you can't explain to people that weren't there. I get the blank stare. They just can't relate.
i hear ya. I was there a few times in the 80's and been to many of those bars. How about Third Eye (I loved the foxy boxing there). I was a young airman and wondered what the heck was foxy boxing when i first saw the flyers hahahahha)
Yeah believe it or not we used to have Foxy Boxing, Wet T-shirt and Oil Wrestling at the NCO Club on membership night. If your number was chosen in a raffle at the end of the night you won a rattan dining room suit or one of those rattan aquariums. I tell that to active duty folks now with their family friendly ultra-conversative leadership today and they don't believe it could have ever been that way. There were filipina hootchie dancers at the NCO/Amn Clubs every day/night. What a time.
what i wouldn't give to go back in time to that and see it. I was never assigned there, but visited many times while in the military and afterwards. I was assigned to Korea but went every chance I got. We used to have Cope Thunder and Combat Sage there. I have been there since I retired as well. Very sad once the bases were gone because of Mt. Pinatubo.
I remember Clark very well. We lived there from 1987-1990. As a dependent it was probably the best tour my dad could have had. Too bad the volcano and politics ruined it all. Somebody went back in 2000 and took photos of the housing area close to where we lived on base and all of it was covered with jungle and overgrowth. Thanks for the video and letting me remember a great time I had growing up.
A tour of duty in the Philippines isnt a tour at all it looks like it was a vacation. All the girls you could want and good peso to dollar conversion. What more could you ask? The videos are nice, but I would say a narration is in order. You are not bringing credit to AFNEWS/ FEN.
Thanks for your input regarding the "shaky" camera work, as well as the comments on someone recalling where they once lived while in the Philippines.
I'd love to see your fine video work displayed here. I'm sure you'll dazzle everyone with your fine production music. Now, Now! Only the best. I'm sure there's no "ELEVATOR MUSIC" in your library.
I can tell from your attitude, Clark's memorable 95th place is a far better place without you.
one year later i just found the comments section lol. your video still does suck but what i wonder is if youve grown to accept it. holla back playboy! rofl.
and youre damn right chief. there is no elevator music in my damn library. you need to learn to take a little CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. damn!
@sheriff297 I know it makes no sense replying to a 3 year old comment here on You Tube, but I just now came back to this and all I can say is that you're talking out of your arse. I have the photographs to prove it. They may have renumbered the homes after we left Clark in 1983, but when I lived there, I was absolutely in 942-C.
don't worry US soldiers CLARK AND SUBIC may be a thing of the past, but as of today there are more bases currently being built all over the island but not to the scales of the former bases.
What a video! I was 6 years-old in 1971 and I remember the Officers Club Base pool where I'd beg my Mom for a hamburger and an 8 oz of Coca-Cola! I also split my chin on that structure separating the baby pool from the big pool...there wasn't any fence back then. Every time 5pm came up, the big bald lifeguard would whistle us out of the pool and stand at attention to the big booming gun, and render honours to the Philippine and U.S. National Anthems. Those were the days!
3rd SPG 3rd LES B Flt Msgt Malley was my Flt Chief. I'd give my left nut to go back there. I really miss it. At 2:48, that's me in the center humvee. Dan Plautz
Assigned to the 3rd Equipment Maintenace Sqdrn. as an AGE Mechanic from Sept 1980 to May 1983. My first son was born there and he is now 27 years old. Lots on memories there. I use to live just above Bicentenial Park.
My father was stationed at Clark 1966-1968 aka the nasty war years. We lived directly across the street from the golf course, in fact we walked to the pratice green daily..hahaha I also went to the elemetary school on base as I suppose we all did. Great video
Wow, I lived there in 1980-81. Thanks for the video. It was a great experience I will never forget. I wish someone had video of Carmenville where I lived.
My father was stationed at Clark from 1977 to 1983. He was in the 31st ARRS (helicopter rescue). I still remember our house number: 942-C 95th Place, up near Wurtsmith Elementary School. Lots of memories. I like this video and getting to see what's become of my former home. There is so much different, yet enough of the old Clark that I can still recognize.

I live outside of Clark.I have lived here now for 8 years.I can tell you more changes here in the last 5 years then I seen in the previous 15 years here.
Visited my aunt and uncle as a child in the early 80s at CAB. It is something that I hold dear to my heart and will never forget the people seem to be filled with kindness that is hard to find state side. Hopefully as an adult I can go back once more and enjoy double rainbows, and lady fingers. (the almost raw pigs I can do without!!)
Great video, I was there 73-75 3rd SPS, in the Resource Protection Group(Surveillance) Remember Maj Barth? A lot of TDY's to Nam. Greatest place in the world.
wow! i didn't recognize any of it. was stationed at clark ab 1969-1970. of course i also didn't recognize any of the new stuff either, at it wasn't yet built in those days. lived off base in Plaridel.
Warriors. Assigned to 3rd les town patrol, what a job probaly the only assignment in USAF were you really could be a cop. Anybody remember louie the PNP with the silver shades?
Wow! I was born here when it was called Fort Stotsenburg (The airfield was called Clark Field). My dad was with the Philippine Scouts then the US Army. None of these were present when my parents used to take us to the base hospital in the 50s. Thanks for posting this!
Man...it's been a while. I was also stationed with the 3rd SPG/LE from 85-88. Was there throughout the strikes and Marcos evac. Wow...what a flood of memories. To this day, every time I smell a grass fire, I think of the PI.
Awsome loved that place. Stationed there till it closed we were the last of the Ash Warriors. Assigned to 3rd les town patrol, what a job probaly the only assignment in USAF were you really could be a cop. Anybody remember louie the PNP with the silver shades?
Brings back lots of memories.... I was stationed with the 3rd SPG / 3rd LES at Clark from 83-85 and with the 3rd TEWTS Security Police at Camp O'Donnell / Crow Valley for a couple years after that. Still enamored with Southeast Asia, and have spent much of the last 6-7 years in Thailand. Never made it back to Angeles, but maybe one of these days!
hey i use to live here from 92-2000and i grow up from this place and i miss it so much!!!i live in US now which is in california and at the moment here in hawaii husband station here at pearl harbor
I was also at Clark from April 1964 to July 1965 as a non-morse intercept operator on A Flight. Had a great time and would love to go back and visit. Still looking for Vic McGill, Dennis Mick, John Needham, Jim Richardson. My name is Doug Quinn from Victorville, California
Yeah....and i miss those good ol' friends of mine...sons and daughters of US serviceman when they still used to live outside ClarkAB..I wonder where they are now???
imperialism? in what way? we have the philippines back because of US and you call that US imperialism? what a jack ass! now you can call it imperialism of SCUM goverment Gloria Macapagal Aroyo! thats prolly your mother fucka!
I was at Clark from 1964 to 1965...remember hearing the Beatles for the first time on the non morse intercept radio...they were just building the hospital in anticipation of the Gulf of Tonkin incident...funny how that works...to be young again
Wow. The images and video clips brought back a lot for me. I watched every bit of it hoping to catch the next familiar glimpse into my memories. When the Officer's Club first appeared (the swimming pool) in the beginning I was overwhelmed! It's amazing what memories do for us. Brought tears to my eyes. We swam in that pool and walked those streets. Thank you so much for posting this. +5 and faved
Virgil: Salamat po!!! I spent nearly 1/3 of my AF career at Clark 1971-73 (AF Hosp), 1984-90 (FEN). Went back once in 2000 and cried at what had happened to the base. Couldn't bring myself to go back when I visited inlaws in Tarlac this year and last. You brought back those tears. My retirement home awaits in Tarlac and I will then to return to Clark. Again "salamat po!"
Hello, I was at Clark in 64 and 65 and would love to go back but am afraid of what I might find. I'm afraid there wouldn't be much left that I'd remember. I'd still go though....
Go back.. Face your fears. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how the modern-day Filipino communities around Clark-NOW AIR FORCE CITY and Subic-NOW also a SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE have developed. Take your cell phone, or use a local computer cafe to go online to communicate. Fly into Clark from LA; Calif; San francisco, Bangkok, Singapore, etc. That's a BIGGIE. Countless EXPATS: US, EUROS & Ausies are there living comfortably. Theyl'e fill you in on what you've missed...
I was just there a week ago and it's really weird how the Filipinos say that they're making the place better when all of the old Club buildings are resorts and all the monkeys that were there are gone too and almost half of the place is abandon. My father keeps telling me that the Philippine Goverment is corrupted.
Served at clark from 83 to 1987. Was a beautiful place. Much of the base is abandoned and overgrown now. What the locals have converted to Air Force City is in pretty good shape. The old theater, hospital, ect are shells.
Graet video. I was stationed at Clark from 81-85 assigned to the 3rd Law Enforcement Sq, Traffic Police Section as a motorcycle patrolman and accident investigator. My first two children were born at Clark RMC. This video brings back a lot of memories. I made several life long friends while at Clark and I hope that oneday to return to visit the post.
I lived in Clarkview, behind the Clarkton House Hotel from before Marcos '85 to just before Pinatubo '89. Guess I got the last of the "hey day". My wife and I, now married 20 years last March will retire to her home town of Tarlac, about 40 minutes down McArthur Hwy from AC. Already have purchased 50 hecters. Will miss the security of the base presence. Wow, that video is something. The old base housing. I used to visit friends in those houses for tastes of homecooked american meals.
Thanks for your response on the various Philippines Experience videos currently streaming on the Google/YouTube sites. You've probably seen from my past replies--I too have spent lots of time during active duty and afterwards in the Clark/Subic Bay area. Hope you're continuing to enjoy life there in paradise...
I was at Clark many times,including('87~'91. As you see in the intro of the video, this is one in a series covering many sides of life in the Philippines--from an American's point of view. Twenty or more features are now streaming. they range from the Mt. Pinatubo event, to life and times elsewhere. Only scenes missing are from a piece I call "GOODTIMES in PARADISE"--NOT INCLUDED! Many of these features will be offered soon on DVD. I hope you'll keep on enjoy my efforts. Thanks again.
Did you know that the science show called "Nova", on the PBS channel once did show on the explosion of Mt. Pinatubo. It was a 1 hour show covering the entire time line before the explosion to when all the US military personel are evacuated out of harms way. I still have a VHS copy of that show. I might put it on YT when I get a video capture card.
Thhe video you speak of is after-the-fact.Scenes here, give a view of what Americans and much-loved Filipinos endured. The PBS feature is produced by an entity thousands of miles away, offering a view to video voyers after the fact. Many who lived it FIRST-HAND, will remember minds and faces of our youngsters--who returned safely. Postscript: I enjoy life and wish long life to the thousands of Filipinos who did not make it, and to others who are still with us TODAY.
Thanks Virgil for taking the time to post this video. Piss on all the naysayers

TheSwingingnutsack 2 years ago
Yeah I actually retired from AF in 01 not 91. I was in Osan 83 and at Clark 84-88. Kunsan-Osan 90-93 and my last 3.5 yrs in ROK 95-98.
You're right, no point in telling folks who weren't in the PI about it. I used to think those PI stories were BS too. I plan on going back summer 2010. Always talked up the PI to everyone. Now a lot of the single AF guys I talked to and took trips with have retired there. Who can blame them? Somehow I don't think I could convince my wife to go. LOL
pijoe7752 2 years ago
i was married and my wife never cared to retire there.
TheSwingingnutsack 2 years ago

I also grew up there in the Philippines at Clark as a dependent in early 70's.
TheSwingingnutsack 2 years ago
I went to Alma's Little Acre and Manila + had an American dependent girl friend. We met at U of Philippines - Clark branch.
I was a nasty Red Patch. We have reunions every other year. The first one was in 2005 at Myrtle Beach, then Vegas, then Branson.

From 8/68 to 1/70 this was home. I did not play football, but I sure remember the games.

Thanks for writing. They were great games under the lights in front of almost everyone on and off base.
In our off duty time we gathered on Fields Avenue at The New Yorker.
I realize most of what we had is now gone but it is nice to know there is someone out there who has some shared experiences, especially as we age. Marty

They just can't relate.

pijoe7752 2 years ago
i hear ya. I was there a few times in the 80's and been to many of those bars. How about Third Eye (I loved the foxy boxing there). I was a young airman and wondered what the heck was foxy boxing when i first saw the flyers hahahahha)
TheSwingingnutsack 2 years ago
Yeah believe it or not we used to have Foxy Boxing, Wet T-shirt and Oil Wrestling at the NCO Club on membership night. If your number was chosen in a raffle at the end of the night you won a rattan dining room suit or one of those rattan aquariums. I tell that to active duty folks now with their family friendly ultra-conversative leadership today and they don't believe it could have ever been that way. There were filipina hootchie dancers at the NCO/Amn Clubs every day/night. What a time.
pijoe7752 2 years ago
what i wouldn't give to go back in time to that and see it.

PEACE!!!

@sheriff297 I know it makes no sense replying to a 3 year old comment here on You Tube, but I just now came back to this and all I can say is that you're talking out of your arse. I have the photographs to prove it. They may have renumbered the homes after we left Clark in 1983, but when I lived there, I was absolutely in 942-C.
chryse 5 months ago
@chryse i lived at 941A 95th place. there was no 941c. there was no 941d. it was only a or b. i say break out those "photographs" of yours.
