  • I have sleep problems when I am both ends of the bipolar spectrum. When I am "low" - I may be totally exhausted and go to sleep but if I get woke up I can't fall back to sleep and lay there w/ impending doom feelings.... BuT - I DO NOT want to get out of bed in the mornings then, either... And I can usually take naps if I avoid caffeine - I'm exhausted all day. When I am 'manic' - sometimes getting to sleep is hard - but I defiantely can not nap. Either way - sleep is a problem.

    Natural remeties.Bla

  • Thank you so very much for sharing this! I'm in the same boat.

  • My sleep is so irrational and disturbing that I will often go for 36 hours straight and then sleep for 12 hours. Then, I do it all again.

  • that makes so much sence no one tells me wat this disorder really is and i have it

  • i'm on zopiclone for the last 6 months since my mum died, i take 1/2 a tablet 3.5 four times a night as i can't keep asleep for more than about an hour or 2, sleeping tablets don't keep you asleep only help you get to sleep, also i'm on 1 mg of zypexa a day .

  • I have a depressed phase since several weeks. However I did not sleep last night. I was not tired. Not at all. I have been awake for 41 hours. And my mind is crystal clear. Very hyper active today. Hypo manic. Or almost above hypo. Strange, these rapid cycling. I will probably crash in a day or two. But now it feels sooo good that my mind is so extremely alert. And that I play with my children all day. And beeing silly and joking all the time.

  • stop taking the med thats whats you dont need the meds women

  • stop taking the med thats whats you the meds

  • Thanks for your insight again. My sleep is never regular. I either sleep 10 - 12 hours or 6 - 8. When I am more depressed like you said in your video, often I will sleep for 12 hours take my morning meds than go back to sleep for another 3 hours. I feel that too much sleep for me is worse off than not enough.

  • @robertlete I try not to get too much sleep also but on the weekends I sometimes sleep for 12 hours. Then I feel groggy afterward.

  • Now that I have my meds closer to regulated I am better with my sleep. I take Depakote and Seroquel at night which make me sleepy within about 30 minutes. I take them and then I do some relaxing meditation and just fall asleep. When I first started the meds though the drowiness was horrible!! I do try my best to get at least 8 hours of sleep though on a regular schedule.

  • @Vindicated85 It's always good to be on a regular sleep schedule. It is nice when meds help out in that regard!

  • I could sleep 12 hours a day if i wanted to, im on zyprexa 10mg, and that makes me drowsy for most of the day.

  • @ziganda26 I will sleep that much too if I get the chance.

  • I have a lot of trouble sleeping. My medication does make me sedated so it helps me sleep but I'm currnetly in Ambien withdrawal. I was on Ambien for a while but recently discovered it would make me hallucinate so stopped that.

  • @CthulhuChick666 Oh, hallucinations are never good. My meds also make me, well not so much tired but they do make it easier to sleep.

  • My sleep patterns are severely affected by my moods. On a high means little to no sleep bc there is just too much to get done, gotta use the hypo-mania while I've still got it. Then the low hits and I just want to not wake up at all... these huge sleep changes then just add to the current mood and the cycle starts again...

  • @akjopeneyes Yeah there are definitely different extremes when you are going through a manic or depressed period.

  • @stillhippie LOL I knew about melatonin and sleep, didn't know you could actually buy melatonin pills.

  • Thanks for posting this, do a vid on alcohol and manic depression (well i think you should), i just cant do it, brings on reelly bad mixed emotions (evan on my meds) the other week i had a reelly bad night and got paraletic and ended up in a hospitol not remembering a thing exept crying and laughing at the same time and since then i have felt so low! but in general im a night owl to and never new it brang on mania, so thanks for sharing this i reely enjoy your vids!

  • @mollytheodd Yes, lack of sleep can send a person into a manic state, or make it worse.

  • I like the night but I work shift. This means my sleep cycle is in another world.

If your married or in any type of relationship this spells trouble.

  • @nb23ify Yeah it can be hard to adjust to work where you go in for weird hours.

  • 'with my depersonalisation/derealisation, I find it difficult to fall asleep at a decent time, I wouldn't be found in bed before midnight. I try to stay up long hours to completely tire myself out so I can sleep.

  • I mean that I use music and smart phone in bed

  • I have learned not to use computers and television just before going to bed. The bright light is bad. I have noticed that. Yes. Do I follow this... No no no. I am adicted. Usually I use my smartphone, (as I do now). I also often listen to music (using ear phone). I find that great. Some how. Again, drugs, I have used mianzerine as sleep pill. Is an anti depressant. You sleep like a baby. And not addictive. A beneficial side effect.

  • @apotheker73 Meds also help me sleep to a certain degree. Last night I forgot my meds and couldn't go to sleep until 3 am!

  • I find the alcohol works better. I am supposed to take 100mg of Trazodone. It makes me sleep through the night but I still have a hard time getting to sleep. A few drinks and some weed and as soon as I feel sleepy I go brush my teeth and lay down as fast as I can and I'm gone. other wise I'm up for hours. Before I started taking medications I would be up for 48 - 72 hours with maybe a half hour cat nap here and there. Then collapse and sleep for 16 hours. It sucked!

  • @murphj4 Yeah, that sounds like a rough sleeping schedule. I have taken trazedone when I was in the hospital and I felt soooo blah and groggy after waking up the next morning. It just knocked me out totally.

  • You are very bright and inteligent. Regarding beer and sleep, remeber that alcohol is addictive. As you know. Your sleep quality is not good, it is negatively altered. You sleep but your brain does not get rest. Alcohol is adictive (as you know). Sleeping pills as well. I would rather be.adictive to pills. I use sleeping pills. Not every day. You can use differnt kind of sleep pill. Alernate. Less risk of addiction. What do you do the last hour before gooing to sleep?

  • @apotheker73 Usually I am just sitting around surfing the internet or watching tv before bed. Sometimes reading, so it is just quiet activities that I do before bed.

  • you're an excellent vlogger. this is a serious topic and you covered it well.

  • @Cathryn1962 Thank you :)

  • @BipolarStateofBeing I love you so much. Everything about you, I could watch you all day.

You are a great mom, and ur husband seems like a great guy, I wish u both all the best.

  • Can relate to forgetting your meds, if I'm still awake at 11-12 I know I forgot my meds.

  • @2LucidDream Exactly, if I am laying in bed tossing and turning it is usually because I forgot to take my meds.

  • 2 he's a night when manic. 5 - 6 when I am not.

  • @crAckZ111 It amazes me how some people can seem just fine on very little sleep. I am so blah and groggy when I don't get enough sleep.

  • Wow! You sound just like me. I can stay up till 1-2 in the morning and wake up early in the morning. I am trying to keep a good sleep schedual; wake up and go to bed at the same time everyday.

  • @mooddisorderedmind I never realized til I started therapy that the lack of sleep was actually bad as far as controlling mood episodes. I'm a lot better now that I know that and can monitor it.

  • I look at my sleeping-patern when it comes to pick up mania, and i guess i have avoided some manic episodes because i did that. My rule is to see how much i sleep in avarage the last three nights, because one night with little sleep is normal for any person, but... If i have three nights with less that 3 houers sleep agrage over 3 nights and i feal normal or mindreasing, then i would say its a a waring, and if i sleep less that 4 houers avarega for 5 dayse and foral OK/mindrasing... Then MAYDAY

  • @Snabelfaen.... But due too my disoobedience too the doctor, and if i get the right Extracy form of mania, then i will just let it go, and take the insanity-ride, because it's sometinge like the best drug ever!

  • @Snabelfaen Yeah I understand what your saying, that pattern of lack of sleep can definitely send you into a manic episode.

  • btw for sleeping pills you should try propavane. non-addictive and more powerful then a few beers.

  • @Hornilope I've never heard of that. Is it a prescription med?

  • @BipolarStateofBeing Yes, atleast it is here in sweden. It might be prescription free in the US, but I dont think so. The formula is called Propiomazine, iirc there's several meds that includes this.

Write it up and ask your doctor about it =).

  • my sleep fluctuates in extreme amounts in accordance to my current mood/episode. when i was in a mixed state id sleep 3-5 times a week 4 hours max, it was horrible. but when it went into a depression i started sleeping 12-16 hours each night. fairly extreme for someone who's bipolar II XD

  • @Hornilope That's definitely extreme. I can relate, I am the same way when I get into an episode.

  • im on a sleep aid and they just cut me down to half so thats one evrey other night which i guess is ok i dont have kids or work so it dont bother me to much like this week i will be up the whole weekend maybe a nap during the day... have a good weekend
