Yes 4Kids did waaaay too much to anime. But I'm a huuuuge fan of the 2003 TMNT, That show kinda contradicts their FCC loving reputation. In the Space Jump Gate ark, there was an intergalactic racial holy war between the Triceratons and one humanoid type race. There's mentions of things that aren't at all "for kids". Drug abuse, gang banging, homelessness, disease, and cult worship were all mentioned in the 2003 TMNT. But yeah One Piece's dub was bad, but I wouldn't cut myself over it. :/
If you are going to have to change SO much of a anime, do NOT dub it. Let another company take it so that can keep it to the original as possible. I hate 4Kids for this reason.

so this is an old rant being re-uploaded, right? Well, I still feel I should point out some flaws in it. First off, it would be perfectly fitting for a kids' show in Japan to have a similar target in America... the problem is that our censorship standards are more strict. Still, being "meant for kids" and being "dumbed down" are two completely different things, and Naruto manages to do a damn good job of remaining mostly intact while still appealing to its intended audience.
anyway, some of these edits were necessary due to the FCC's paranoia (excess blood for instance), but that by no means excuses 4kids from going overboard. I think the Toonami run of Funimation's dub is a fine example of how One Piece could be targeted towards kids without it being completely butchered (though even that seemed to have stricter censorship applied to it than Naruto, but I think that fault lies with Cartoon Network and their apparent double standards).
@ColhanRantQueen im watching the first episode on hulu dubbed and I think funimation went back and redubbed it form what Ive seen so far beacuse it said funimation and the words that using an nami kicks this guy in the you know whats
