Through much of the 80s, WTWO had a weatherman by the name of Kerry Dean. I wouldn't be surprised if Gary Jackson was a name made by WTHI to avoid confusion.
Poor Marla Keller. Turns out she died last year. Tragic. Not sure who looked more like one of Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds! puppets, Johnny Palmer or the young Kevin Orpurt.
starting at 1:35, WTHI opens with the same music and has a similar looking set to WKYC's in Cleveland. I wonder if they were owned by the same company?
@mobilene Toward the end of the local reign WTHI had actually bought another TV station for itself, Fox outlet WFTX in Fort Myers, Florida. Emmis bought both in 1997 (when Emmis exited TV, they sold each station individually, once more separating WTHI and WFTX).
WFTX had a news department too, and it began to resemble WTHI (same graphic style, same VO, and Jennifer Crawford (once on WTHI) went there in the mid-1990s).
Do you have the rest of the KWWL NewsChannel opening? You have the prelude, but not the opening. Lots of memories there. Ron Steele with dark hair, Craig Johnson, and Bryan Lessly. Liz Mathis must have been off, but best news team ever in eastern Iowa!
What is the language Paul Andrew is speaking in that CBC open? He breaks from English in this section and I can't for the life of me understand him.
There are some things the NMSA could use here, namely the first WTHI open (that's definitely a new theme), the third WTHI open (early use of Good News, definitely earlier than the existing sample), and the KDUB open (heck, they don't have the station! - this is 1987 due to the Rountree Hall fire mention).
These news opens I just saw are very rare. The KDUB one has to be very rare considering that it was an ABC affiliate at the time. Looking forward to some more news opens.

What year was that San Jose news opening? Comes across kinda kooky now, or maybe that's the Newt Gingrich effect.

@bobrox70 WTHI was locally owned in those days, by the Hulman family.
