@anythingjosh well they can begin to colic, but horses do lay down to sunbathe and sleep, so laying on their side will not kill them. just if it is over an extended period of time. and even then, the horse will try to get up and if it does and can walk around, its fine :)

@lovehorseslove1 Horses don't start sleeping standing up until they are older. Foals regularly sleep lying down because they aren't heavy enough to crush themselves yet. And it is fine for horses to lie down. A lot of adult horses lie down on their sides all the time as well but not for nearly as long as foals can because of their weight. But no, this foal is not in any danger. Horses know how long they can lie down. It's called instincts. They don't need us to tell them to get up.

Seriously? It can't just be a clever foal, it has to be starving?

Okay, a starving horse would have a lot of difficulty getting into that position, would not have left the grass anywhere near that long, and beyond that it's in very good body condition.  Not to mention that someone who was starving their horse to the point it might do something desperate to eat wouldn't be eager to post things online where interested authorities could see.
