I am rather sure that this organ was built using their electro-pnumatic slider chests. Think of it as an internal barker lever tracker....they have a diagram of their action on their website.
How about a "WOW" for your postings! Interesting instrument you are playing as well. Hope to hear more from you in the near future, keep up the wonderful work. Best of everything to you at Christmas and the New Year.
Hi douginz19, was the original organ a G/W and when was it initially installed? Did they convert the pneumatic/electric action? Shame! I like the 8' Tuba particularily when soloed @ 4:45. Also like your registrations on the swell @ 3:28, 4:10, 5:29, 6:13 & 6:49. Very distinct sound. The strings on the choir are beautiful. Tradgically many Romantic organs have been changed in the name of progress. Kudos to you for bringing out the best in the organ. Thanks for your detail of the organ. Roy
Sorry for taking so long, school has me kept busy. I believe the organ was originally a Wangerin, and that supports the theory that some of the ranks were from a Wurlitzer because at one point in the booming years of theater organs, Wangerin actually stepped in to help the Barton Organ company produce their theater organs. And the organ is now completely electric action. Brad
oh and also, this organ is G/W's opus 13, they were still learning how to make organs... I just wish they hadn't removed the second 16' diapason the original had... it sometimes makes me wonder what they were thinking. As Dr. Regot(I think that's how his name is spelled haha) from IU said when he visited during the consideration of renovation,"this organ needs to be salvaged, added to here and there and that's it." Sadly the instrument was butchered.
Hi Brad, yes school comes first. What are you studying? I hope it includes music as you are a fabulous musican & organist!! My short organ building career was during the revolution in Canada of turning some beautiful old organs into classic baroque sounds. Ripping out diapasons etc to add harsh mixtures etc. Sadly I'm not sure the congregations had even heard of baroque! Salvaging & adding would have been better than butchering for sure. Good luck with your studies. Canadian fan, Roy
Nice strings! I usually like G/W organs. This one sounds a bit like a Holtkamp, and strikes me as a bit...brash?! A nice organ, but All the other G/W's I have heard were really warm and rich.
well an interesting fact about this instrument is that it rumored that some of the ranks were from a Wurlitzer i.e. the clarinet in the choir division, some of the celests, strings, and other mishmashes of ranks when it was originally installed. Before G/W started renovating the instrument, it was pneumatic/electric action and was a Romantic organ.
Which I wish it still was. When G/W was chosen for the project they were still a younger company and I say strongly with confidence they ruined the original organ with the work they did. Also, adding to some of the incoherent nature of some of the stops is the fact that it has only been voiced once since the re installation in '88.
Along with the voicing neglect, G/W from what I have noticed, has shown a lack of interest in seeing that the instrument is kept in the condition it should be, and this matter is not to do with financial limits of the church. For instance they were to come down and replace the swell shades in the Antiphonal because they have ceased and also to tune the instrument. Neither items were addressed and the church was charged a sizable fee for doing nothing...
Wow! What an awesome performance! The church acoustics and organ are fantastic. I especially love your very colourful registration changes throughout. Your pedal work is phenominal!! You are a very talented organist/musican! I asume your "making up on the spot" means an improvisation. Is it built around any particular piece of music? Please share your fantastic gift with further postings. Definitely not too long, I listened numerous times revelling in the magic! Thanks for giving so much joy!
Thank you for your kind complements!! I'm trying to improve my pedal work, its an ongoing process.... Right now its more sloppy than where I would like it to be. And to answer your question, yes improvised is the best word of choice, haha. I will try to keep posting when I can make trips back home!!
Ah Ha! I suspect then not an improvisation but rather a composition. Have you composed other pieces? Are you studing organ as a career or is it a hobby passion? I hope the church heeds your recommendations for repair as it is magnificent organ. I hope they have you play for servies on your trips home! Thanks again for sharing your awesome talent!********
Nice playing too! The best Pedal technical work...Joyce Jones's Pedal Mastery and the exercises from the Roger Davis book. BEST ever. People talk about Germani and Neilsson. But those are Passe' and old school, as told by a former teacher
Thank you very much. The acoustics used to be actually better from what my father has said. The pews are now upholstered and the floor is carpeted. I tried to use a decent amount of contrast in sounds during the beginning. Again, thank you very much!

I'm not sure if I posted this somewhere, but the organ before it was remodeled it was manufactured by the Wangerin Organ Company
