  • Whoa... Hanks has fashioned Dudley Moore's 80's mullet for this role!

  • Meg's hilarious poem in that film, I love!!! ehehehehehhe. Oh.. they've got where I work.

  • ANGELICA Do you want to hear one of my poems? JOE Sure. ANGELICA Long ago, the delicate tangles of his hair, Covered the emptiness of my hands. (to Joe) Do you wanna hear it again? JOE Okay. ANGELICA Long ago, the delicate tangles of his hair, Covered the emptiness of my hands.
  • i mean the scene where he sees the moon.

  • this scene in this movie always reminds me that even when life seems unbearable, it is still a precious gift. at the worst moments i thank god or whatever for my little life. every second is a gift.

  • Meg Ryan is so adorable in this movie.

  • without those annoying titles, it would be fine. I've always loved this movie and its score.

  • My favorite movie. Beautiful actors, music, story. Makes me smile. Joe is the clueless everyman. Points out the absurdity of office work perfectly. What is the meaning of life, anyway? We are only here a short time, people. Time to start questioning conventional wisdom because it's usually wrong.

  • don't overthink it. just enjoy the music!

  • shhh! the movie is playing.

  • Dear god who's name I do not know.. thank you for my life..I love hat line.

  • Dear God, whose name I do not know...thank you for my life. I forgot how big!! Thank you, thank you for my life.

Get it right or don't bother quoting.

  • One of my all time favorite films! Thank you for posting this, and my fav. scene is on the water and kneeling before the moon with that dialogue...

  • I have no idea what you are so angry about! Also I finished junior high school about 48 years ago. Shanley's film is wonderful. How do you see my uploading this as denigrating a work of art that I love?

  • People like you entertain me.

You tell others how to think and behave. You police other's thoughts and ideas.

You should fire your instructor though. They haven't taught you how to do it very well. At the very least, put in a formal request with your superiors for someone else.

Finding a great teacher or mentor differentiates comments that sound like an angry child from comments that are, in fact, written by an angry child.

    To summarize:

Chill out, even the English believe in free speech.

  • That was for FairlyGrrl.

  • Grow up? FairlyGrrl, if you are so wise and mature, then surely, you'll humbly appreciate ths constructive criticism: Your words are filled with anger and as such will be dismissed - having no impact. If you really have a message that's worth considering, calm down and draft it to have impact and affect change. Instead, you've eroded any authority or influence you might have had by sounding yourself like an angry 14 year old youtube tagger. - kind of cliché.

  • I love this movie. I really do. I've spun it on VCRs and DVD players over 1,600 times. Yes you read that right. I've also had contact with Shanley's relatives over this. So I have a bit of a background on it which unsurprisingly matches that of my own. But what I hate - WHAT I REALLY HATE - is idiots with subpar intellect coming in and putting a twist on things and INTERPRETING THINGS for those even less fortunate in the brains department than they themselves. TALK ABOUT AN INSULT TO THE AUTHOR.

  • Don't understand your gripe but let Shanley's relatives or the man himself know that there are some of us out there that appreciate this film and will never forget it. Or how important it is! I saw this as a kid and never forgot it since. It's in my top 5!

  • Beautiful job! You just gave me a better view of this, and of life! Go get 'em, Joe! "Thank you for my life..."

  • "I forgot how big..." You are right on the mark, johannespastore. This is an excellent video. I can hardly wait to see the movie with. you.:-)

  • Your experience could support an alternative explanation. Christians believe in "all that is, seen (physical) and unseen (spiritual)." Perhaps they make more mistakes about the world of the unseen (sin, the return of Christ) than those who restrict their belief to all that is seen (the physical). The younger Joe balanced bodily activity (firefighting) and spiritual (courage) appropriately. The older Joe let his fear of mortality suppress his spirit. He forgot... how big... reality is

  • "Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour." NAB, Matt 25:13. The gist of the parable is the need to stay awake always because we don't know when our life crises (concretized as the "end times") will take place. Non-Christians too become overly concerned with the past or obsessed with the future. That is a temptation to which rational beings living in time are pre-disposed. Christians do have a philosophical & a theological commitment to living in the present, though.

  • Considering that Jesus is on record as saying, "Stay awake!", I'd say that the film is right in sync with Christ's live for today, stay awake attitude.

  • wonderful, remarkable, excellent .....joe versus the volcano

  • yes... I agree with you ;) Waking up and getting a great cup of coffee!

  • The symbolism is just amazing! Joe as the Christ figure, the rebellious woman as us (humanity) and the marriage of the Lamb at the end. The Chief as Pontius Pilate, who doesn't want to see Joe jump in and sacrifice himself, even the treatment by the Waponis (getting wacked with fish and the octopus) is like the mistreatment before the crucifixtion. It's all there! Great analogy for the REAL story. :)

  • I've always loved that scene with the rising moon. Anyone who has lived a life without some similar experience has missed a great thing. "Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess."

  • had to watch the movie several times to "get it"... once I got it ... the message was clear. Superb!
