I think that she got the part because the Directors, the producers, and the people who held the corn purses believed in the Work. They set out to make a real film that had meaning. Not blowing stuff up, not casting who one of the main money bag holders wanted but who they felt would make the story meaningful.
Nobody paid attention to this story until the Mighty Oprah jumped on board. That is how she got the part and I am so glad to see her in the film because it was so emotional
