  • she is so incredible

  • I used to like a guy. A lot. And after nearly a year of wishing and hoping and modestly attempting, it was painfully clear how uninterested he was in me. I heard this poem back then, and the ending of it just made me sadder, thinking that it was impossible that whole year had been a prologue, and I'd probably never find love.

At the end of that heartbreaking, loveless summer, I was unexpectedly kissed by a friend who I'd known equally as long. And now I can distinguish where the prologue lies.

  • For Photography we have to choose a song that's just under two and a half minutes and take a lot of photos and make a film from it, I'm going to ask if I can do this poem yet I'm troubled with the thought of what can I do that represents this poem and how can I make photos and a storyline good enough to be shown along with Emilie's poem.

  • I actually cried at this because of the extent i can relate to it. I tried for months to put this feeling into words, and, as has been said previously, Emilie has done so flawlessly.

    Spread The Plague

  • wow... just wow. it's so beautiful.

  • story of my life. made me cry

  • @jcrane165 Alas, yet another troll who has crawled underneath the wrong bridge.

    PS: It's "You're."

  • @jcrane165 Can I ask, why are you here if you don't like 'gothic losers'?

  • @jcrane165 First of all putz, it says poem so obviously you can't read, Second of all gothic involves history education so much better then you, third of all if you don't like it go fuck off we don't need your ilk here!

  • @jcrane165 Im not sure if you noticed the title jcrane165... its a poem. not a song, i hope you meet yourself in your fire long dread.

  • i dunno why, but i think about the person as a girl, for some reason.

  • at least she could say she has somebody she dreamed of being with

    i... can't

yet maybe i'll be able to someday, and won't have to say goodbye

so who of us is lucky?

she who had loved and lost

or she who have yet loved?

  • I adore this poem, mostly because of all the different ways it can be interpreted, and the way I'm interpreting it is so very prominent in my life that even reflecting upon it brings tears to my eyes.

  • An emotion I never knew even existed just started attacking me like a rabid squirrel.

  • How would you describe Emilie with none other then the word amazing to prove someone wrong, who so blindly says she is emo?

  • Oh... What memories Miss Emilie brings to the surface... -sigh-

  • This poem always reduces me to tears.

  • This...is the perfect poem.

    At least, for me.

  • The little part from 2:06 to the end sounds like the part of Opheliac just before the actual singing?

  • @aloula97 yes it does

  • @aloula97 actually, I thought I was the only one in thinking Opheliac followed this track xD

  • Her poems remind me of Dear Esther. The style in both is amazing!

  • surely one of the most beautiful poems i have ever read, listened to, heard of. just sit down, listen - the clearest pleasure.

  • That dim flicker of hope at the end is enough to break anyone's heart. What a beautiful poem. So inspiring. I love her.

  • Lol I've memorized this

  • @cassidyteufel You aren't the only one, Infact, i think I memorized them all xD

  • @AnotherRandomChick18 Totally her music and poetry is art, Youtube is not a good site for poetry if you aren't famous most people are nasty about it. Having good luck with deviant art though

  • @AnotherRandomChick18 You know what's funny about that, when I found Emilie's poetry I feel IN LOVE, she uses a lot of the same metaphorical style and sarcasm I do. Modern publishers don't like it, I had one sent me a letter compared my poetry to both Poe and Shakespeare I was honored. But at the end of the letter was a footnote saying I was "too old fashion" and they would not publish me unless I became more current. WTF compare me to the greats then say change?

  • Oh my gosh this poem is so dark, sad and beautiful...it made me cry. I love her talent..

  • Emilie Autumn has to be the greatest poet of all

  • just.....beautiful......i cant say it in words the sensation that im feeling in this moment

  • I'm literally trembling with emotion i can hardy type...nothings ever done this to me befre.... i love EA

  • 6 people missed the like

    button here! :0

  • I had to cry, when I listend to it...You really feel the words!Makes me get goosebumps.

    EA,we love you!

    Are YOU Suffering?<3

  • She puts her words in...such a way that you understand on a personal level.

    Such beauty and magnificence.

  • This poem actually brought me to tears...

  • How has anyone pressed the dislike button??? :O

there fingers must have slipped :')

  • Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful I wish the poet would contribute this to my installation 6 Days Goodbye Poems Of Ophelia

    They just need to telephone

    44 (0) 2071839366

  • Perfect for me and my greatest regret.

  • the perfect eulogy to any and every deep loving ended relationship..its amazing how just one voice can speak for so many. Thank you God for Emilie.

  • Those 5 dislikes must've been a misclick. Emilie <3 ftw!

  • I love this poem. It's too beautiful for me to put into words, so I won't even bother. It's magnificent. :D

And I might be wrong, but with the ending, this reminds me of something that could be a prologue to Opheliac. o_o Just saying... xD

  • And to think, this voice also did Miss Lucy Had Some Leeches... lolz! What a multi talented woman.

  • I think this may be my favourite poem by her. It flows so softly, like liquid sound; bittersweet, like unsugared tea… Naturally, I can't really relate to it– (after all, I'm just a teenager; my experiences and high-school heartbreaks are clearly insufficient to understand the pains Emilie has clearly been through)– but I can appreciate, and marvel at, the soft, feather-light beauty of her words and voice…

  • Such a beautiful poem, I wish I could write so deep.

  • She is sooo talented. I love everything by her, which is really unusual for me. She is sooo talented!!! I love her!!! =D

  • dude all of her poems are really good. i love them all.

  • @MermaidBlueFins yes i see your point but it is kinda upsetting that her talent isnt realized here but i do accept the fact that her surroundings help her to become a better artist

  • and she isnt populare were im from because......damit she should be instead of the dam new boys and lady gaga she has purpose behind everything she says and thats what a tru artist is

  • @366314ashley If she was popular she would have to face censors/ over bearing agents and "fans" that will like her for only a while until the next big thing comes along.

Hence why I for one am glad she is alternative and the real fans love her and respect her as an artist/author/song writer and poet.

  • @366314ashley I like that Emilie is underground..

  • It is almost creepy how this poem describes an issue i had faced!

  • absolutely beautiful.. i love emilie autumns poetry

  • "It's true, I rather like who I've became

But what am I to do with what I've been?

For I may wish to meet myself someday

Among the ashes of a fire long

To see my shadow there and hear it say

That it was happy with the life it led"

I love that part. This poem makes my eyes water ♥

  • Oh my god this poem is so beautiful o_o like... I'm shocked xD I can't even express how awesome and amazing this poem is!

  • Poetry is for personal interpretation. Not public debate.

  • I believe that... YOU SHOULD STOP ATTEMPTING TO INTERPRET ART!!! Gods, people! Enjoy it; don't dissect it!

  • @GodsDarkestNightmare whats the point of art if its not also interepreted?

  • wow, her poems are so deep. I don't think this poem can be interpreted in a certain way, as it can be related to so many things- friendship, love, sadness, pain, mistakes, the past, the future. This is truly wonderfully written.

  • Have you realized too, that the poem ends as the begging of Opheliac?

  • this women is a TRUE inspiration.

its sad that it took a lot i her past to make her the way she is today.

but as the saying goes, there wouldn't be joy if it wasn't for pain.

  • "She meets her past self ...simple as that"

  • This poem has followed me through my heartache.

  • when ever i move to somewhere new iand leav e my friends i always say this poem.

  • I relate to it so much. I have tried to put this feeling into words, but Emilie has done so flawlessly.

    This is truly beautiful.

  • Awesome!

  • A lot of you have said you can relate.

I haven't yet got the meaning of her poem as it appears the words contain a much deeper meaning than I have thought.

    Can anyone describe how?

What makes her poem hit so deep and what feeling it brings?

A soft lonely feeling and a spot of emptiness?

Thats what is for me anyways.

  • Probably one of my favorites of her poems. I can't get enough.

@Bakagurl002 I don't really know myself, but it does stimulate something in me. Especially starting from "For I may wish to meet myself someday..." Through this game called life, fighting it while sometimes I don't know why I continue. But the thought of what lies in the future... I would regret it if I left this earth too soon without knowing how it all might have turned out.

  • I interpret this to be about Juliet after she see's Romeo dead...

    Maybe.

Still a gorgeous poem one way or the other.

  • god i can relate to this too much, i brought me to tears

  • no words can describe how amazing this is.

  • THis is my favoirte EA poem, I could hear her read it over and over...adn i do lol

It's the only one I have completely memorized besides how to break a heart

  • she is absolutely amazing.

  • emilie is amazing

  • who else but the one and only emilie autumn can put so many peoples thoughts into words? this poem is truly 'beautiful and frightening'.

  • This is so beautiful and frightening. Just listening to this makes me feel dpressed.

  • And so I've said too much and not enough

Her poems have a safe place deep in my soul.

  • Oh how this brings back memories...

  • The first time I listened to her speak these words to me. It was more like the cadence of her voice was singing to me than her words were speaking to my soul ,my animus as they seem to be doing now.

  • scary...this peom is nealy idenitical to a suicide note i wrote when i thought about killing myself

  • wow - frightning

    great minds think alike?

i hope you will not feel like killing you anymore, even if that means a loss of great poetry ;)

  • i love her poems!

  • I never really got the ending

    Until now.

  • Damnnnn dude.

    This is great. :)

  • this brings back a memory to me. my friend brit was told that someone was gonna kill her( she is nice and mean and all that) but in Pre Algebra she wrote a poem to me and it was very depressing)

  • The sad thing is I know this all to well. I am living this. I still love him with all of my heart.

  • Fuck her lyrics deep i love it !!!!!!

  • This is so beautiful and sad. :c

  • Such a sad poem.

  • eeeh. I cried. ://

  • And all that in perfect iambic pantameter!

  • That poem was profound.

Sometimes I feel exactly the same way, wondering where Who I Was went...In fact, this poem has inspired me as a poet, to write about this feeling, also and as a courtsey to my dear EA....

  • I absolutely love this poem!!! I wish it was on the Opheliac album cause' that's the CD i'm getting next week ^^

  • No no! BAD! You must BUY it from her, silly, that's STEALING

  • I love this poem.. It's my favourite!

  • In the 19th century they had Emily Dickinson, today we have Emilie Autumn. She's so wonderful and gifted. Just awsome.

  • wow! this poem is the best i ever heard

    i love emily ! :)

    :p

  • This is such a brilliant poem.

If only everyone was as talented as her.

Maybe then we could start putting something worthwhile to listen to out on the radio.

  • not everyone!

No, no one else as talented as emilie!

She would no longer be so special!

  • I knew one day this song would come in handy.

Only today, every word said by Emilie hits me in all the little crevices that could not be reached before.

I hope this feeling passes soon.

  • I can relate. It really hit home with me too.

  • Amazing :[ x

  • Sad. Dark. And beautiful. This girl has more talent than most of today's more "popular" artists.

  • Amen!

  • I can relate to her poetry (& songs) so very much.

  • same here with many of her songs they are beautiful and real and its like you can feel the emotions she puts in her songs not many artists can do that and no one esle is like Emilie Autumn

  • She has such a hypnotic storyteller's voice when she recites her poetry. This one was so sad. Brava, Emilie! Brava!

  • this one make me feel ah hole in my chest!... its exatly what im feeling now...

i love her, is like she enter to my mind, soul and heart and pull everything out... just to let me know she gets me!!... <3<3<3<3<3

  • I know! I also can relate to this poem, it's exactly what I'm feeling! And I feel as if my heart is empty and it hurts...

  • I looooove her voice in her poems <3

  • I adore her poetry! Her voice sounds almost like a calming river, the way the words simply roll from her lips.

I wonder what she would sound like narrating an Oscar Wilde poem?

  • I KNOW!!!

    <3

  • It's amazing...and so sad..

  • This is such a beaustiful poem. I love her voice, its as magical and soothing as an angels. This poem reminds me so much of my ex-boyfriend. It was a very good time of my life, a very important time. It taught me so much and he has changed me for better or for worst, you can be the judge of that. This man, no not a man this boy who I entrusted my heart to only to have it crushed and broken into a million peices. Now I am empty and no longer interested in love.

  • I know the feeling :(

  • I LOVE HER POEMS!

  • Do you think you could send an mp3 of this song to me if I give you my email?

    ~Ash

  • Opheliac comes after this, yes? I don't have the CD, so I'm not sure, it's just that the next note that seems like it could play is that random note at the beginning of Opheliac.

  • it sounds like opheliac should come next, patd did this on there first album, and the second, it works well, i belive. i badly want that album for xmas (opheliac)

  • Pretty combination of words. They gripped me. I couldn't stop listening. Now mom is yelling because I did not take out the trash right away. <.<

  • This poem....speechless...no words can describe

how I feel about this poem. Her speaking voice is as much as beautiful as her singing voice. I love it!

  • Emilie Autumn is so talented and inspiring. I feel like writing a poem, now...

  • this completely broke my heart, i was a with a girl not long ago, and this...........this is exactly what would have wanted to say to her, and now im heart broken so much, this remind me of what happened between me and her,

pathetic that i couldnt even say it pfff. -_-

  • I'm doing this poem for my solo in dramatic reading interpretation. I didn't How to Break a Heart for my first one. Emilie Autumn poems scare the people in my class, or so I've been told. You gotta love her.

  • oh my god, this is so perfect. from all the poems i've heard from her, this is the most beautiful. I just can't stop hearing it over and over again. So sad, so breathtaking.

  • I like how there are end rhymes, but they don't sound forced)

  • Her poetry is the best I've ever read. This poem is the most amazing poem of the world!!!

    I love Emilie!!

  • emilie autumn the goddes of depression and the rotting soul

  • its why she kicks serios ass!

  • i love this poem. it portrays my love life perfectly.

  • totally overwhealming and breathtaking.

  • i wish she made more poems...

  • wow... oO

    this is niiicce... =D

  • THANK YOU, I was looking for the lyrics (L)

  • XD i'm not really team jacob, but this poem makes me think of him. poor, poor jacob.

she does a very beautiful job. her voice is stunning, quiet, slightly accented and rich. the music accompanies her perfectly.

  • she's extremely talented. :)

  • it sounds even sadder when shes just sayin the words

  • Lol, i love poems they make you able to say the hard truth in a way that only the people who care about others will understand them.

'Behind that proud soldier behind that bitterness behind that wall of self accomplishment behind those stakes of anger hides... a sad girl, afraid, fine and tender with a small hart more treated,

than the border the soldier has to defend'

to bad i speak dutch and i first have to translate ea's poem ,makes it less enjoyable.

  • this really made me cry,

i can find myself in this song right now xs

  • me too

  • :/..

  • This is my favorite picture of her.

  • oh god!!! i love her , she is so gorgeous!!!! an her music , im in love with her

    Strong woman...

  • That line runs deep!!!

out every thing that one got me!

  • "but what am i to do with who i´ve been?"

    beautiful!!

  • This actually made me cry...

I think I'd seriously date her if I could, and I'm a girl. And I'm straight!

  • Whohoo!! Well girl, you better come out now, cause a straight girl who wants to date another girl isnt straigt anymore XD You're bisexual with a preferation for boys. I think emilie autumn is SOOOOOO gorgeous,, this poem made me cry too^^
