  • Ex Air Traffic Controller. Nice stuff.

  • ZULU NATION GORDON RAMSAY WHOTAUGHTYOU

  • The 90's... man those were good times.

  • Genius

  • This was a favourite of Howard Stern back in the 90s when his first marriage was in the tank, and he played it regularly on his syndicated radio shows.

  • two summers ago...after that night i got much too drunk in the bar programming the jukebox and you put your arms around me and the summer was a whirl, excitement, anticipation and brutal sadness when she came back...this song is all of that somehow

  • Oh man the memories this songs brings back, I remember rushing out and getting the cassette in high school. Good stuff.

  • Both this and Lou Reed's walk on the wild side, as LARUCUS said before.. The music, the lyrics and the calm vocal line meld into something more than a song, something that can instantly change your mood to this exact abstract state. If you've felt it, you will know what I'm talking about. :)

  • really nice video...

  • "One-Hit Wonder's".

  • @BloggerTruth24 better a one hit wonder with a thoroughly enduring melody than the crap you listen to

  • @auradaledad eat shit braindead bitch.

  • Finally I found this song!! For years I've always wanted to know who sang this song and what it was called..... this song moves me in so many ways. Thanks for posting it w lyrics!!!!!!

  • i swear this reminds me alot of lou reeds "walk on the wild side"

  • @LARUCUS "and the colored girls go..."

    lol totally!!!

  • when barby girl is @ number 1 on the charts, and this song only made it to 99/100, then you know there is something wrong with the world.

  • "if i die before I learn to speak, can money pay for all the days I lived awake but half asleep"

Brilliant verse. One of my all time favs!

  • this song is banned in Iran

  • @AlcoholLevel Why?

  • @clk22 because it's terrible lol

  • This song can make me cry waterfalls.

  • Perhaps I'm just painfully shallow but I'm totally clueless what it's actually about.

  • it took me ten years to find you...

  • love this song since junior high........... i missed it since forever, just about a minute ago I remembered the title and the band!!!!! woo hooo................

  • Damn... haven't heard this song since it was out... crazy ish you get put onto while playing out...

  • This song soothes my soul like no other...

  • Life is time that teach us growing up/seconds ticking kill us all....

    Omg so good.

  • Oh my God! I'm so freaking ecstatic right now! I finally found this song after some years of searching. The last I heard it was about six years ago on the radio. I had no idea of the title, band, or lyrics, but somehow I managed to come across it again. I love this song!

  • @ChouxPastrie How did you find it again??

It's how i discovered two of my fave singers Alanis and Natalie imbruglia when MTV/Channel V play ther old and new songs together.

  • ¡Hello everybody! I learn to speak english ¿Lyrics 0:13 / 0;24 and lyrics 3:56 / 4;04 PLEASE? ¡Thanks!

  • This song sends chills through my body.

Extremely well composed and thoughtful song.

  • listening to the singer i just always assumed he was a porkchopeater...but he looks normal

  • @carlsplace hahahaha why porkchop eater??

  • This song is so beautiful. It's so... calm. Really puts me in some form of musical trance. =D

  • We sit outside and argue all night long

About a god we've never seen

But never fails to side with me

Sunday comes and all the papers say

    Ma Teresa's joined the mob

And happy with her full time job

some of the simple but most true and great lyrics

  • god the places where a song can send you!!!

  • "If I die before I learn to speak

Will money pay, for all the days

I lived awake but half asleep"

    Bang on FANTASTIC lyrics!

  • @kaaliimaan Oh yeah ¿tu entiendes todas las palabras de la cancion? porque son dinamita - de puro sentido. If you need any help let me know. Also, you might want to listen to, and appreciate the lyrics of :The Goo Goo Dolls - "Name".

  • @kaaliimaan - I know what u mean!

  • @liberal185, i understand completely society is deff not what i used to be. i get odd looks when i show ppl what i like to listen to like this kind of music i grew up with.

  • been looking for this song forever & finally found out what it's called. yaaay!

  • This is pretty much the song I've been trying to write my entire life.

  • @kaaliimaan ME PASA LO MISMO Q A TI MAN. UFFF CUANTOS AÑOS ME TOMO ENCONTRARLA. ERA TAN LARGO EL TITULO Y EL NOMBRE DEL GRUPO. SNIF SNIF SNIF LIMA PERU.

  • This song is absolute poetry. Usually the closer I pay attention to the lyrics of a song this catchy the worse it gets, but these lyrics are just so deep and meaningful that they really make it something else.

  • i know what you mean, some songs are catchy but their lyrics are utter shit... perfect example, Kids by MGMT.

  • i cant believe ppl would rather listen to "i can make your bedrock" than "can human do what prophets do" tells you a lil something about where society is headin to :(

  • @liberal185

Am I alive or thoughts that drift away?

    Does summer come for everyone?

Can humans do what prophets say?

If I die before I learn to speak

Can money pay for all the days I lived awake

    But half asleep?

those lyrics live with me since i heard this song all those years ago, if ever i think of them i go into this contemplative trance where i begin to think everything is possible... and wonder just how many millions of years we have been existing...

  • @liberal185

worst comparison ever. and thats not even the right lyric

  • fine, "can humans do what prophets say". I hope your ego has been satisfied.

  • @liberal185 -you mean there are smart creative people on youtube other than me...wow....well i mighta said this twice, three times at the most(thrice is archaic and pretentious) but you are 100% right brother...amen

  • @liberal185 -you mean there are intelligent creative, non-souless people on you tube other than myself...wow, I've only said this twice b4 here, three times at the most (thrice is archaic and pretentious) but you r 100% right..amen brother

  • @Xclubkid22 PPS add the Bob Dylan lyrics to this, written in a crypt of a monastery in Italy above the piles of bones and see how ya feel then--"As your are, so once were we, As were so shall you be--You prolly read the divine comedy (Dante's Inferno, so ya know Italian doesn't translate perfectly to English, but put them together that's powerful...physically hurts me

  • @liberal185sorry i printed 2x,didn't post--don't forget most the braindead f's in group a never used a phone booth. What's the world coming to?physically uninhabitable,w/people makin it matter alot less than it should,ie yout comment-hopefully Jesus'll comeback or our generation'll see the end.PS-C what this does 4 ya'used 2 run in a cemetery laugh&run&sing when Iwas a child, now I just pass mournfully by the place where bones of life are piled;Iknow somethin has changed-Bob Dylan

  • @liberal185 depends on the moment or place you are in your life. You can't be an armchair philosopher 24/7.

  • @belisarius2930, yeah but that doesn't give you an excuse to live your life as a buffoon, even if it just for a "moment" in your life.

  • @liberal185 i cant believe youd rather take it in the pooper in a prison than admit you know nothing about music

  • Am I alive or is it thoughts that drift away? Does summer come for everyone, can humans do what prophet say?

And If I die before I learn to speak, can money pay for all the days I lived awake but half asleep?

...little piece of crap lyrics genius. ;)

  • This is one of those songs that a lot of people don't know about...but when they do...it touches their heart and they will love it forever. Its my favorite.

  • I remember waking up early to watch music videos on mtv back in the day waiting for this song to come up! Brings back memories. . Oh yea its also in the Cable Guy soundtrack :)

  • I used to stay up, waiting for this song to come on, so I could tape it. Over and over I'd listen...

    I feel like I'm 15 again.

  • @ThatEliseGirl

i might have been a little older, but same here.

  • I also remember I used to think this bloke looked a lot like Peter Hook of New Order.

  • Very cool song. Quite ahead of it´s time for a radio pop friendly single. I remember when it first came out, MTV was beginning to show the first traces of the crap it ultimately became, all the hip hop and crappy pop, and I thought this was a breath of fresh air in the channel.

  • im down and lonely!

  • same thing...in my head still all these years later...i was 16 when it came out...

  • true in my head always and i've been searching for it thanks to cable guy i've finnaly found my favorite song

  • I admit I haven't heard this song in very long time. I remember the first time. I was on my way from my girlfriend at that time. Wierd to think it was 13 years ago. Underrated song of the 90s easily.

  • great song and I thank you, but no way is this high res, ya know?

  • Would anyone agree that this is one of the most original, experimental, and poignant songs to have ever been released?

  • i disagree, its a great song, but not really the most experimental or original song ive ever heard, in fact it reminds me of something that could have came off of moby's album play, with the blues sampole and slow beat, but idk maybe you're right, for a pop song it certainly is one of the more experimental and original to be released, great song

  • but moby's album play came out in '98, after this one so at the time it was quite original

  • Comment removed

  • does anyone know the exact year this song came out?

  • @Sk3pTiCz 1996

  • ...Makes me think about a lot of things...

  • No shite man. This song evokes that same thought from me also.Great song from back in the day...

  • Adoro esta musica, e uma das minhas preferidas. humm... I mean I love this song every time I hear it I... well i just love it.

  • What's being said between 3:57 and 4:04? In the single (or album) version that part sounds like sucking through a straw. Never heard the woman's voice before.

This is the first time I watched the entire video since I first heard this song in '96. The girl singing the last verse and hanging up the phone makes it 1000x more surreal.

Nobody know exactly what the song's about, but yet everyone can relate to it in one day. One of the best songs of the 90s... one of the best songs ever produced!

  • "one day" I meant "some way"

  • why no lyrics on the last verse?

  • I wish I knew of more songs like this, its amazing, the vibes coming from it are surreal. Man oh man....

  • this song is brilliant

  • is it true that the part ive been down harder baby etc...is that bb king?

  • It's sampled from BB.

  • Ya, it is BB King, but he is saying:

"I've been downhearted baby ever since the day we met"

  • Love it !!!!!

  • what does that chick say at 3:58

  • This song has a quality to it that I can't really describe. It's really ethereal.

  • Kids watching this today are probably wondering what a phone booth is...

  • It's true, why rate the dude down because of it?

Miss those red boxes too on the streets that sold tea or fruit punch drinks for 50 cents.

  • *laugh* I'm not sure why so many people put thumbs-down on your comment... I thought it was pretty funny.

  • keokirhodes is a heretic.

  • Great song the year of a new baby and a toddler in the house. Good days... ony got better... great song to reflect back on now!

1996... contented times of my mid '20s...

  • heard a band called Panic Years covering this on the radio the other day...used to love this song back in the day.

search for video of their version on here, great stuff.

  • This song was originally released on the Cable Guy soundtrack in 1996.

  • What year did this come out? I found this song relatively lately, but I just saw it on Pop-up video. Just how old is this song?

  • it was made in 1996, so about 13 years.

  • ghostmonkey,..... racism is dead and your prez is black so stop playing the race card you will get alot farther in life clown

  • I used to jam out to this when it first came out. I was in 7th grade.

  • aw why did the lyrics stop? I wish you'd post a complete version. Great/Weird Song

  • this is one of my favorite songs EVER!

  • oh memories of Savannah, Georgia

in my 1988 Mercury Cougar are rushing in

  • How very racist of you.

  • Are you stupid?

  • The lyric of this song has a philosophical message... Can money pay for all the days I lived awake but half asleep?....

  • mother toresa joined the mob??

  • Great song.. I would love to see this much sould in most....!

  • most agreed(:

  • this is one of the best songs i have ever heard

  • I've been downhearted baby,

I've been down--I've been downhearted baby,

Eeever since the day we met,

Eeever since the day we met.

  • whaha amazing what a difference between what you can hear in a song

  • brings back memories of my salad days when i was green with envy...

  • i like the mellowness of this song. Just hang out and lay back and relaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaax.

  • classic!. Yea Mr evil that whole satan thing is kinda gay, its 2009 bro lol

  • i bet im not the only person to have recorded this on a mix tape

  • nope.

  • ive been trying to find this song for a while now, posted a ? on yahoo answers and got a reply... Freakn Classic...

  • GREAT song! This reminds me of my mom tuning in to "easy listening" radio stations very loudly as she vacuumed. I loved it.

  • yes men, we were so yooung in the 95-96. With this song i remember an old love...

  • how does that get a negative 6?

  • Wonderful, wonderful song. Heard it on the radio today, brought back memories!

  • Great song, I heard it on the radio a few days ago. Very poetic.

    Thanks for the lyrics.

  • this is such a beautiful song, makes me relax, and puts me in a good mood. i forgot all about the song when I was watching The Cable Guy with Jim Carrie. Reminds me of a women I had a bad crush on

  • Many thanks for the awesome HD vid and the subs. :) A song that always brings back memories of my childhood.

  • I heard this song a few minutes ago on an internet radio station.... My first impression was.... "Jesus Christ." This thing is pretty poetic and send some shivers up my spine.... Love it. Wish I would have known about it sooner. It's now going on my favorites list. Thanks for postin the vid.

  • who here relived an acid trip while watching this video? lmao.

  • It's funny you should say that... but not an acid flashback... a marijuana flashback. The first time I met Mary, this song was playing.

  • i just heard this song while getting my teeth violated in a dentist chair and it put me in such a nice headspace. it brings back powerful memories of the summer of '96 when it was all over the radio here in the u.s.

  • sweet tune reminds me off someone who has fallen r.i.p i say hello 4 you

  • This song played at my friend's funeral the year I left school. It captures that time for me. Thanks for posting.

  • One day last year I remembered this video. And I was trying to think of the name and how the song went. A few days later I walked up to the radio at work and turned it on, and this song was playing. How weird is that?

  • Can't stop listening to this amazing song.

One of those that I heard like ten years ago and never knew who sang it or what it was called.

  • I've been downhearted baby..ever since the day we met!

    Magic song thanks x

  • I've been singing this song in my head for weeks and could not remember the name of it, so glad it's on here. :)

  • Thanks so much for putting this one up, too.

    EDGAR....:)

  • Thanks so much for putting this one up, too.

It's great to see the video so clearly again -- paired with the song, it's perfect.

I still think of this piece of music as definitive of its era, and I believe it will sound as profound years from now as it did then and does now.

  • i like this song

  • Life is time to teach us growing up

    Seconds ticking killed us all

    A million years before thefll.

    You ride the waves

And don't ask where they go.

You swim like lions through the crests

And bathe yourself in zebra flesh.

Chris didn't want that verse in subs. Maybe because Kelly sings them in the video. I'd never even thought about it before.

  • who is kelly nways? ;-)

  • I think they are just as valid as the other lyrics...thanks for posting them here. Love this song since the first time I heard it in 1996.

  • awesome, but no subtitles on the last verse?
