Last year therewas a bunch of people that came to my school and showed use a martial art that looked a lot like this. I don't remember the name but the show was amazing.
those other guys are wrong. It actually originated from Jamaica. It was used more as a dance than a fighting style. Im not sure who was responsible for that transaction
capoeira originated from african slaves being transported from africa to brazil to work in sugarcane farms. hence from brazil :) it was hidden as a dance, same as you can see okinawan karate and filipino kali used dance to hide thier fighting styles
capoeira isnt use for fighting, its more of a game...IRL if its used it wont really be nice to watch, although he wont get much hits hed evade more(talking bout capoeira)
u underestimate that style completely. irl its deadly, its one of the most random fighting styles, the strikes are more powerful than almost any punch, and u have no clue where the next hit will be coming from, as an experienced fighter, and have seen true capoeria master fight. i can be most certain that u have no clue what ure talking about, and most likely havent even seen a real capoeria fight, no doubt fought one, or even been in a real fight. though a newbie caporia fighter would get pwnd.
niice he seems like a good teacher, did he train any1 widely known? i love seeing a good capoeira fight. where is this, im seeing different locations. i dont train capoeira, i do muay thai but greatly appreciate the art.
This was a tight fight!! I would love to see Jackie Chan fight a Capoeria fighter. That would be interesting. Unfortunately, he doesn't have much of his monkey agility like he used to :(
(Continued). . . .and had great focus, but his body couldn't keep up with the speed of the boxer who trained in increasing the speed of his punching strikes ONLY for the entire time of his career, not his kicks, nor elbows, or knees, juss punching. If the Karate dude knew of this style, he would have trained more than twice the amount of training so he could at least be the equal of the dude, but that didn't happen unfortunately. . . .for that Karate dude, but great example so I can start with!!
All of what you said is what I was trying to get at. I have'nt gotten into an actual fight yet, but I figured that out a while ago because only a martial art robot would do the actual techniques like in katas or the way the teachers tell you to hit. Unless they are trying to confuse their opponent, then I might be able to see why they would do that.
(continued) I can tell you right now, I know I'm not gonna do exactly what ive been taught at my dojo. But I will use the techniques in my way since I have my own affective ways of fighting. I'll fight how I think is the right way, and it seems to be going great from what ive seen in my sparring. Thanks for being so respectful throughout this.
they're talkin bout real fighting, something that most people don't know a damn thing about. People love to learn it, practice it, amd watch it in the movies but they don't know how to apply it in a real fight let alone want to see a real fight. In the world today, fighting and martial arts are becoming a in a real dispute cause nowadays everything is settle by gunfire. The punks keep days have to have a gun for a dick cause without it they're nothing but a pussy.
to those ignorant fools who say a lot of crap about how important it is when choosing a style, it doesn't matter!!! First, the only way to win a fight is to analyze, be focused, keep ur cool, don't get pissed off or any other emotions get in the way, and remain confident of everymove u do, take a martial art and theyll tell u the same %@*& I've been saying, so take classes if u don't kno how to fight, and stop watching some 5th rate karate movies that lie to u about how its done
I agree about keeping cool, confidence, and keeping your emotions down, but honestly, it does matter what style your train. And more specifically, the manner in which you train in it. By this I mean full contact sparring, emphasis ON sparring, open competitions with other schools and the like. So yes, I'm saying you're post was right except for choosing a style.
You are wrong again buddy. Are you really gonna do that specific punch or kick in a tournament, or in sparring? On the streets there are no rules your free to do whatever. Schools are making all of us into robots, and it seems like you don't make styles your own, are you a robot?
Is Cung Le fighting style anything like Royce Gracie? Granted applied many striking arts look a lot a like and grappling arts too, but seriously can you say "I do TKD/Wing Chun" and honestly hope by sure willpower and athleticism and "frame of mind" you would take down a muay thai boxer. And a Muay Thai kick is not like a krotty kick, boxers have more punches that they name than poker hands: Cross, Uppercut, Hook, etc.
let me tell a story that happened in world war 2. The us navy boxing champion took on the japanese karate champion, and the boxing champion whooped the shit out of karate champion. Boxing only uses hands, and karate uses hands, feet, basicly more body weapons than a boxer. As you can see, it doesnt matter what style you do, its how you use it and how you apply it.
I totally agree in the idea of wat ur trying to say, in fights, the smartest survive, and the WWII example is true, the boxer had a limited amount of punching and yet effective techniques that he practiced every day and only using his feet to bob and weave. The Karate didn't know wat hit him since he is fighting against a fighting style from the west. The Karate dude trainedall the members of his body. . . .(Continued)
I respect ur perspective on choosing the right martial art, I'm only saying this through experience and it may apply differently to others since there are so many styles for that reason, In this generation, the full contact martial arts may ease u since in street fights there are no rules. U have to be decisive and relaxed to get through and rely on a lot of muscle memory from those full contact martial arts since their techniques are basic, and yet effective
o.o So if I totally makr up my own shit art, call it "Dim Mak's Me Krab" (death poke crispy noodles) and decide to "apply" it well, when the whole concept is poking people with me krab noodles in "death points" it's all good to you? Styles with major Bullshido-esque flaws like _ing _un and TKD could very well hinder a fighter than improve them.
I used to study a horrible type of krotty, (2nd degree instructor black belt, in fact) and got totally ass-raped in a fight. Then I switched to Judo, and it has not happened again. I am only a gokyu in judo but I am still thankful to it for saving me from a life of pretend fighting and ignorance. Why, do you?
I = Capoeiraist and I say anyone who takes it too seriously is a nimrod. That guy is amazing, Jaa is amazing, capoeira is amazing, but none of them are good in a real good fight, it's XMA, not MMA. It DOES matter what style you do, if you do TKD, master TKD and love TKD, you'll get 0wned by a Judoka or Muay Thai fighter of the same skill level.
I've been a TKD player 4 13 years, have studied 9 other styles n 4 different countries, & beaten the piss out of plenty of other people from plenty of other styles WITH MY TKD. In my last fight with a kickboxer OF MY LEVEL, we fought to a split decision, & I lost but half of the people who saw it said I won, so don't tell me I'd get 'owned' just bcuz I'm a TKD player. Fighting is about how tough U R, how smart U R, & how adaptable U R. NOT the style U com from.
No, you see for you are wrong. It IS the adaptability of the style as a whole, people trained in solely striking arts MUST train in a grappling style to A) Prevent the takedown or B) Get back up and defend against the submission, also Grapplers must learn to Taake people down or take a hit. A single style is a flawed concept in today's MMA fighting scene.
I don't believe SHIT you just said without video evidence. You said there were other people there? One should have a camera. Post the video, lemme see. Show me your 9 style badass motherfucker-ness and your 4 county holy grail of fighting Batman-qualities. You're a simple white trash USA suburban kid who takes TKD and had their feelings hurt, and making up BULLSHIT to cover your BULLSHIDO.
Oh, and WHAT styles in WHAT countries? How many languages did you learn? How long did you study there? WHY did you study there if you ended up just "beating the piss" outa them?
So speaking Japanese and Korean justifies your "martial arts"? I'm sorry, but your response has me veryo confused. None of my questions have been answered by your response, I award you no points and may god have mercy on your TKD soul.
I can judge you because I have trained in Krotty, have friends in TKD, and have trained in an actual style that works (Judo) and from both personal experience and firsthand accounts of others (plus watching your awful jumpy flippy highlight of TKD yourself) I find TKD training to be more focused on flashy, good looking moves (such as backflips) and their sparring is light/no contact point sparring which does NOT denote actual fight situations.
The demo reel you're referring to is from the small demo team I ran in the states before I moved to Japan 5 years ago. Pardon fuckin' me for doing flashy kicks, but I wanted to do something positive with my martial arts instead of using it to TALK SHIT to people I don't know.
Beyond that, I'm also a brown belt in Judo myself, and half or more of my friends out here do MMA,and fight professionally and when I train alongside them they don't TALK SHIT. They train, they welcome me when I come, and respect my shit when I'm teaching TKD.
Don't answer the "what" and "why" post of mine until you show those videos, because all I'll end up saying is "NO VIDEOS, NEVER HAPPENED" really angrily and storm off to go get cookies and milk. (milk and squats)
I think Lateef Crowder learned Capoeira from Mestre Marcelo, who was the one who did most of the motion capture moves for Eddy Gordo. So yeah, he very nearly freaking IS Eddy Gordo.
eddy from tekken does capoeira, which is a real fighting style, from brazil.the history is that the slaves were not allowed to learn how to fight, so they disguised their fighting style as a dance, so their owners would not kno.
The style most ppl see on TV and in video games is an acrobatic style of Capoeira; it uses alot of flips and stunts..
While the other style, Capoeira Angola, is more focused on fighting and evasion moves....this is the less-fancy style, but it's more effective in a real fight.....
some info, because this video's quality isnt the best around, the capoeria guy acctually has the word 'PRAY' imprinted on his chest in the real video which you guys might not notice at all in this video.
How can you call Capoeira breakdance fighting...? Breakdancing draws inspiration from Capoeira in some a few moves, but that's as far as the connection goes. You can't seriously compare something that's combat oriented, and a dance.
Capoeira is pretty much break-dancing combat, not very effective but it's very entertaining nonetheless. Stop overanalyzing and just enjoy the clip. BTW, that is Lateef Crowder. Check IMDB (or if you have the movie, check the credits).
capoeira has a lot of grapples (one of them, called vingativa, is even shown in this clip, right after tony jaa does a series of knee strikes in lateef).
how in the world can you say it's a non-contact martial art? gosh.
Utter tripe. People who train in such an injury-fearing manner are soft and never get used to taking blows. One hit from a Thai Boxer would make a copoeira 'fighter' wish he'd never bothered. It's used in this film because it looks good, but it is the most useless and inefficient of all martial arts, except inasmuch as it isn't even a martial art anyway.
Capoeira is usually a non-contact martial art (which is a pretty stupid concept) and there is no way any exponent of Capoeira would stand a chance against a consumate Thai Boxer like Tony Jaa. In reality, this fight would have been over in a couple of seconds with the black guy waking up the next day wondering what had hit him.
actually the point of the no contact in capoeira is to learn from your mistake without spending down that comes with injuries. it also teaches you te be smarter on you feet and to keep constant eye or every limb on your opponent. to be honest, copeira would have one for the sheer fact that almost every escape and block can be trabsformed into an attack

Haha!! I dont know what capoeira rodhas you have seen or been in. But everyone I have ever been in at some point (usually at the end when the music and tempo of changes) its FULL CONTACT.
This is not the guy who was eddy from tekken. His name is Lateef Crowder from Zero Gravity in california. The guy they got eddy from is from berkeley. Peace
its called a gingja...its what sets the pace for the dance...if you watch his fights in "Undisputed 3" he doesn't do it as much...

I believe the style you're talking about is the chinese "Drunken" style.
Also I think Mestre Cobra knows more about Capoeira than you do, the one I learned Capoeira from.
Compared to other fighting styles like Shooto and the like, Capoeira just doesn't hold up.

Not that I know of, besides nowdays he's more of a professor in Capoeira and focuses on angola.

Cobra Mansa has shared his knowledge in different parts of the world apart from his home country, USA for example.

eddy from tekken does capoeira, which is a real fighting style, from brazil.the history is that the slaves were not allowed to learn how to fight, so they disguised their fighting style as a dance, so their owners would not kno.

Capoeira might not be the most efficient martial art..
but in my opinion is the most beautiful one...
Primeiro 5 years ago
All depends on what style u use...
The style most ppl see on TV and in video games is an acrobatic style of Capoeira; it uses alot of flips and stunts..
While the other style, Capoeira Angola, is more focused on fighting and evasion moves....this is the less-fancy style, but it's more effective in a real fight.....

How can you call Capoeira breakdance fighting...? Breakdancing draws inspiration from Capoeira in some a few moves, but that's as far as the connection goes. You can't seriously compare something that's combat oriented, and a dance.

well said =)

the capoeira guy looks like footballer Ronaldinho, haha! btw, thanks for the vid!

Capoeira is pretty much break-dancing combat, not very effective but it's very entertaining nonetheless. Stop overanalyzing and just enjoy the clip. BTW, that is Lateef Crowder. Check IMDB (or if you have the movie, check the credits).

Shut up, you girl. You wouldn't know full contact if it bit your arse.
FuriousGibbon 5 years ago
capoeira has a lot of grapples (one of them, called vingativa, is even shown in this clip, right after tony jaa does a series of knee strikes in lateef).
how in the world can you say it's a non-contact martial art? gosh.
shinluis 4 years ago
Utter tripe. People who train in such an injury-fearing manner are soft and never get used to taking blows. One hit from a Thai Boxer would make a copoeira 'fighter' wish he'd never bothered. It's used in this film because it looks good, but it is the most useless and inefficient of all martial arts, except inasmuch as it isn't even a martial art anyway.
FuriousGibbon 5 years ago
shit was hot but i still think the capoeria guy would of won but since tony ja is the star of the movie of course he kicked ass... they both did
MasterDogz 5 years ago
Capoeira is usually a non-contact martial art (which is a pretty stupid concept) and there is no way any exponent of Capoeira would stand a chance against a consumate Thai Boxer like Tony Jaa. In reality, this fight would have been over in a couple of seconds with the black guy waking up the next day wondering what had hit him.
FuriousGibbon 5 years ago
actually the point of the no contact in capoeira is to learn from your mistake without spending down that comes with injuries. it also teaches you te be smarter on you feet and to keep constant eye or every limb on your opponent. to be honest, copeira would have one for the sheer fact that almost every escape and block can be trabsformed into an attack
