@Carmenyoohoo No coz they needed the door to open which needed them both to stand on the pressure pads. The pads were next to the door with a wall between them and the door, so the only way to reach them was to jump from the end of the wipeout bit. (or add a step like Lewis did lol)

The way I see it:

That little gap in the far right of the pistons. If you shove the gold block in there, you can use it to push the pistons themselves. Then, if I'm not mistaken, push comes to shove, and you are able to move a piston over to the sand. I'd be worried about accidentally shoving a piston somewhere that you couldn't access it though.

The piston that did nothing was because it was blocked by another piston.
