  • boooooooo i like kde it very windows and you can change that box by going to activates then desktop icons

  • Stop giving him you fucks. He did a good job so stfu.

  • Why do some people on YT sound like they are going to cry? Are they so nervous about recording?

  • To me it sounded more like he had a cock in his mouth all thru the video

  • I run KDE on my FreeBSD box (Compiled Several days XD), and i love it!

  • Both desktops are good, but i prefer KDE. Gnome have to evolve, too many years with the same features, may be Unity do the difference in the future

  • Comment removed

  • You can configure kde place icons directly to the desktop

  • it´s important that detail??

  • it´s inmportant that detail??

  • it's pronounced "nu-oh-mm"

  • when your on a computer thats made for gaming you want gnome ...when your on a computer that you want to be fancy you use kde ..remember..you CAN have both ;]

  • KDE is my favorite deckstop

  • xfce ist the best

  • @BigBaangThe XFCE is not as light weight as LXDE, and the colors are horrible. It's gray in gray, bit like Win98... But XFCE takes compiz lot better than LXDE.

  • Sounds like he had a finger up his ass and a gun to his head the whole video.

  • @garretts228 lol

  • @Wodey25

How many languages do you know?

  • I personally don't like widgets. I like a clean minimalistic desktop.

  • lol. Dextop!

  • thank's for the video,man!

    I found this in i-net: psychocats. net/ubuntu/kdegnome

  • KDE is nice, but GNOME is easier and faster.

    I can't make my mind...

  • i wipe my ass with windows

i also have trouble shitting now. there was blood.

  • @skibbli it could be worse, if you used mac you need their permission to even take a crap and then make sure you use a toilet that's compatible, but at least your crap will look nice and pretty.

  • @HybridMoments13 hahaahaha u made my day lol

  • @HybridMoments13 yes but if the toilet is not compatible you could buy some expensive drivers that have little features and only work on mac osx leopard not the other ones :) lol

  • @TheLitefire HELL WHY STOP THERE!? You can buy hundreds of thousands of cheap crappy accessories to make an obscenely over-priced look cheap and even more of a pain in the ass to use (pun not intended). You can add a new seat lid that will cancel out the power squat of death that prevents the toilet from flushing.

  • @HybridMoments13 Dude you are funny lol, Post this to your blog =P

  • @TheLitefire as lame as this sounds..... I have no idea how to do that. In all honesty I have been tempted to do nerd themed comedy reviews, rants, etc. but really have no idea how to do that. If you have any suggestions give me an email and I'll start posting stuff regularly.

  • I would use openSUSE, but I have two computers, one is a macbook pro. I tried installing openSUSE with kde but the brightness wouldn't go up all the way, because driver support for macbooks on linux isn't too great. I also have a pc, but it's not to powerful so I have to use xfce. If i had to choose between KDE and GNOME, I'd probably pick KDE

  • Im using now Open suse 11.3 with KDE. Its pretty and all the stuff... but it crashes a lot!

it is a problem of KDE on suse, or suse itself? my own pc... (hope not)?

im just waiting suse 11.4 release to try it out to see if i will have the same problem

  • @gabqcm

Some distros work better on different systems. Like I have problems with Gnome Opensuse on my laptop, and no issues with Ubuntu. While on my last PC Linux Mint crashed a lot, and on this one I have no problems.

I recommend trying Kubuntu, or Linux Mint KDE, to see if you have the same problem. Linux isn't supposed to crash...

  • OMG u talk annoyyying.

    Nice vid though.

  • kde is the worst and ugliest desktop ever.

  • This video is not objective... The guy who made it is a gnome lover and a KDE hater.

Personaly I don't like both of them. Gnome has 2 taskbars which in my opinoin makes te screen look smal and very wide. KDE looks nice but is way to heavy.

I like: Blackbox, ICEWM, Fluxbox and any other SMALL Window Manger. But thats just because I only use a browser, a terminal and GVim when i am on linux box :P

  • Ok Which one of them for a beginner?

  • @LSOA2 Get fedora. It has a great community, is fast, stable and you'll love it.

    look here: .../watch?v=HzVkinnQKQU

  • In KDE Thou canst configure the Desktop in Workspace-View (KDE default) and Directory-View (like in Gnome).

Click on the rigt up Icon and then Folderview.

    Greetings

    Hanno_Hoichler

  • XFCE and Gnome FTW

  • I love GNOME

  • hogy lehet ilyen beszédhibával videót fölrakni...

  • Both are shit

  • @develt2012 Try them. after a while you'll notice linux is awesome. even tho there are awesome-styled things, i somehow prefer the look on system rescue CD (XFCE).... no idea why o.p

  • its pronounced "nome"....but good vid ^^

  • you can put the icons on the desktop but all the settings are hidden so its hard to find...

I like gnome more too... well at least version 2.3

version 3 of gnome kind of sucks

  • @Enlawen

Right-click on the desktop, choose (Desktop) Settings and change the View Layout to Folder View.

After clicking apply, you should see an extra 'tab' called Location which allows you to change the displayed folder.

  • Fuck Lenucks piece of shit garbage 1% share forever!

  • I'm pretty sure the G in Gnome is silent.

  • @Arsic0 Actually, it isn't, believe it or not. Look right on GNOME's Wikipedia article at the top if you don't believe me.

  • Gnome is the best choice if you plan on mimicking a OSX desktop.

  • @MysticTrunksHQ yeah.... But why would anyone wanna do that?

But anyway, i use gnome and i like it. I also tried KDE but i hated it. In my opinion its really ugly.

  • @Turbolord KDE is horrible and also quite slow, tell that to a guy who owns a 12-core PC with 36 gigs of ram.

  • great video my friend. Well I do not really like KDE. I feel more comfortable with Gnome and Openbox :)

  • *downloading kubuntu*

  • I prefer gnome.. classy look, simple and easy.. KDE is made to only LOOK cool, but it's not simpler at all :P

  • GNOME, KDE. The oldest war in the book of linux history.

But let's be fair here people: The bestest and mostual innovationing DE for linux is XPde. It's like: So original.

    Win3.11 => Linux

  • i do not like how KDE operates, i do like Gnome most. i think it can be customized to be just as pretty and good looking as KDE.

  • ok... its not said "GUH-NOME", the G is silent, its said like "nome"

  • @incogweedo The G is not silent with Gnome window manager.

  • @incogweedo just like saying knife with K :D or bomB with B

  • @incogweedo Actually the G in Gnome is not silent. It is pronounced just like in GNU.

  • @ezridaeus pronounced "nohm" as per dictionary [dot] com

  • @muffemod Sorry..but that is incorrect. In this instance it IS pronounced with the G... Guh nohm...roughly. It isn't the same as the nature spirit/fairy tale character of the same spelling.

  • Nice video thank you!

  • So what I got out of this is Gnome is better for performance and lower hardware because of simplicity and KDE is better for looks and higher hardware?

  • @ScorpioRising07 gnome= mac os

    kde = win7

  • DEKSTOP!

  • nice voice

  • Don't speak so fast, i can't understand you man!!! :PPP

  • @Zen768 I can understand him fine, he's not speaking fast at all. And his english isn't too bad at all.

  • GNOME FTW!!!!!!! Im using Ubuntu right now, i just much prefer GNOME's organization. It's really hard to get used to KDE, it is really un-organized.

  • @googleaskyahoodogpil

Gnome panel looks like a desk nailed to the screen and to get some comfort you need tools like gnome-do (crashes) and slab-menu which is horrible and ugly.Gnome is a tiny tad faster but i'd go with KDE (4.4+) every time.

  • You don't have to keep them in a box.

Well, At least now you don't.

  • whats your proccesor and ram?

  • lol i just watched the DAGONLINUX comment.. hahaha that bastard cant even use ubuntu, he has tried debian also, and he is so pissed that he is so dumb that has a bunch of videos of "linux sucks" LOL poor bastard.

please go to his channel and leave a comment telling him how stupid he is.

xD xD xD xD xD xD xD xD xD xD xD xD

  • Who ever narrated this video sounds like a really fat asian kid who has a case of bad acne, anyone else with me? Nice Comparison though, Thumbs up!

  • Great video! I do like KDE, but I tend to use Gnome more.

Someday a desktop with the best of both will be created!

  • good review lol ... you say GGGG nome

  • Thanks! You've sold me on GNOME.

  • KDE is such garbage now days.

  • @ItsAllLinux I never use Linux except to keep it as a recovery OS in case windows gets messed. The only reason I keep KDE is because it has a search bar and easy to use start menu. I wish Ubuntu has a search feature like finder in OSX. If there is, can anyone tell me how to access it cause im not that good with linux.

  • @rahmanroni check out GnomeDo. I'm not sure if it's included by default these days or not. probably not. go to applications / ubuntu software centre then search for gnomedo. to bring up the search feature, press ctrl + space. simple. p.s. i'm assuming you mean the search feature like searchlight and not finder.

  • @rahmanroni it has but like mac on the upper bar

  • @rahmanroni

    ever heard of gnome do?

Most powerful launching/finding tool ever written.

Everyday just use alt+f2 or bind it as you like

  • thank you, come again.

  • I've given both KDE 4.X gnome a fair try and I found that while KDE has the looks GNOME has better peformance, simpler to use, more flexable, and there seams to be more support around the web for it. So... in short I found GNOME to be much better for everyday use, and more indepth use. (FYI I tried KUBuntu and Ubuntu 9.10)

  • KDE is looks like windows stile and is so complicated for me... it have many redundant option to do the same thing

  • tbh i dont think Gnome wins over kde 4.4 at anything, i started using linux with Gnome than i turn into OpenBox than LXDE and now im in KDE4.4 and i love it

KDE 4.4 is fast, pretty, stable, and a lot of effects, plasma and plasmoids are actually usefull, Compiz its just eye candy

i still have to try E17 but for me at least atm KDE pwns Windows, Mac OSX and every DE out there

KDE Devs are Gods, when u think they have done everything they make more

  • Thanks for that video man, it was really helpful.

  • hey, non-native speakers of english can't be expected to know every pronunciation exception, like gnome, dekstop, and taksbar. err.. at least the first one, anyway.

  • David the Gah nome lol

  • lol I am a G-nome user, osrry dude that sounds funny

  • If you don't want to decide like me, I have ubuntu and and now am adding kde, so when I boot i can start a GNOME or KDE session

  • Gnome + Kompiz + Emerald <<<<<<< KDE...

  • The 'G' in Gnone is silent. It is pronounced "nohm".

  • No it isn't, not for the GNOME Desktop Environment.

  • kde 4.4 rocks here !! but gnome is good !

  • @vampspell

    Gnome is less CPU Demanding.

    So I use it.

  • @MrMakeman

yes,and more faster than kde !

I use both ubuntu 10.10 (gnome) and sabayon (kde 4.5.3) kool stuff !!!

    cheers !

  • @MrMakeman if thats the only reason you use gnome i say switch to xfce. even lower demands.

  • @CannabisDelux

Well, I am more familiar with Gnome.

  • i have a good question, wich of the two (gnome/kde) has the most software out for it? Please don't reply with "they both have alot", I'm saying in numbers rounding up, wich one gets more software and applications released for it? That's what I'd like to know. =)

  • linux applications are compatible throughout all DEs and distros.

  • after watchign this video i read somewhere that gnome has more apps for it and that it's more stable as in not crashing as much. KDE looks nice though... I like how polished it is. lol I like shiny stuff. xD

  • @ItsAllLinux well, not natively. It's annoying to me when I have to deal with a Qt/KDE app (e.g. Scribus) and it doesn't use the native widgits of my prefered Desktop Environment (GNOME). Also, if I run a lean system, it's annoying to have to keep around the entire Qt library just to run one or two apps.

As to the first users question, It seems that GNOME/Gtk has the most native application support. Most Qt I see are the KDE apps, and misc. projects here and there. The major stuff is all Gtk.

  • @ItsAllLinux 99% of them... There is some exceptions like(the most popular) Epiphany.

  • @myspacecommassergio ive run apps that say "dsffgdg for KDE" under gnome with no probs

  • cool so they can run both gnome and kde? Can KDE do this to? I might have to consider switching to KDE in the future. It looks so nice. =]

    PS

It's a shame Gates stole this and nobody said nothing about it in the news(that i know of). =[

  • @myspacecommassergio yep, they can run any apps. BUT if you want to switch i did this: install kubuntu-desktop for KDE, lubuntu-desktop for LXDE, xubuntu-desktop for XFCE or ubuntu-desktop for Gnome. i did find that some components like the file managers and network settings didn't get on well with each other

  • @myspacecommassergio gnome, obius

  • @Diegolfz

yeah ur right gnome is more stable kde looks beuatiful but it has trouble at times (hangs) when starting up Apps. i used the more recent kubuntu ack sound wouldnt work on youtube or flash pretty much. Then i got the lattest 10.4 LTS of ubuntu and wao do i love it. The lattest Ubuntu release is a true work of art! It's alot BETTER! :D I still am a heavy windows user but ubuntu is staying on my HD cuz i think its cool to. :p

  • @myspacecommassergio The person asking the question doesn't get to say whether it's a good question or not.

  • @myspacecommassergio the fact is KDE have a lot program integrated because that is a porject goal. I like gnome because is easier to use.. KDE is really preatty and have a lot program in that stile but is really heavy too

  • Gnome is like a countryside view... simplicity, quiet, nice-looking, natural, static. Kde is like a city view... more options, fancy, crowded, signs everywere, candy-eyed, in constant evolution.

  • what distro are you using?

  • this video is biased towards gnome

  • people who like gnome don't like KDE and vice versa

  • @anthonym2121 not true. i like Gnome, and there are some features of KDE that i like. i'm playing around with kde on ubuntu atm, but i think i may switch back to Gnome default. Gnome has everything I need really, and why fix what's not broken :\

  • kde is very poor in quality of its products. Half of the time the applications keep 'krashing'.

Poor noobs like myself are getting mislead when we see the 'jazzy' kde features, which are VERY poorly implemented and this actually frustrates a user, especially a newbie.

  • @jadooindia

I am a gnome user, but not agree with you. Kde has been upgrading & polishing a lot. I am seriously considering changing to kde, because has more features and cool things than gnome.

  • Well even i want to use kde but kde 4.3 has seriously disappointed me

  • Where are you from ? Im trying to figure out this accent of yours... thanks in advance.

  • thailand, according to his channel

  • correct.

  • I am new to this. All this customizing. I didn't know what I am looking for was all in Linux/Unix/Open Source. I am expecting lots of stuff from this awesome thing (:

Hopefully they have Microsoft Office for this?

    When Linux/Unix/Open Source overtakes Microsoft.

  • Oops, looks like that had it 8 years ago already!

  • check out OpenOffice. They have it for both linux and windows. Does everything MS office does, and opens their files too.. and free. There are alot of very good open source apps for linux .. some of them even work on windows.. but yea.. check out OPEN OFFICE

  • KDE > Gnome. KDE is much easier to customize and the desktop apps are awesome..

  • great vid, and great series. your accent is woderful, its the most ambiguous i've ever heard! almost like john malkovich. anyways, keep up the good work!

  • Gnome: MAC

    KDE: Windows

    Seriously, they look similar.

  • Actually, they do.

  • I was thinking the same thing :O

  • @GenoSkill fuck linux... windows 7 owns your dumb lnux...

  • @GenoSkill agreed on both parts

  • @GenoSkill I totally agree mac is too pricey but works amazing but windows computers are cheap but the os sucks, Linux works with a little time to learn it so it is the best option, but I'm still a mac because I bought one and I'm getting my money out of it.

  • @GenoSkill

It's be pretty awkward to smash your balls in a Window pane, but whatever.

  • I much prefer Gnome. It's clean, minimalist and almost mac-like. KDE feels over-engineered and over-complicated.

  • I stopped to like KDE. KDE blocks my soundcard. I really cant use it, because KDE uses it. So I use Gnome2 on my Computer. I find it looks as good as and it works fine. Efficient, fast and stable..

  • thanks for video :)

P.S you have funny voice :D

  • Hi,

    Thanks for uploading that video!

  • you're welcome

  • @ItsAllLinux

    Thanks Machang (that's My Chum)

  • IMHO I like the look and feel of gnome better than kde.But that is IMHO.

  • IMHO KDE is better a lot of widgets a lot of apps fromm the makers of kde and real pertty the only real problem in KDE is that its waaay to slow so XFCE FOR NOW LOL

  • Dude.... Your not restricted to managing icons etc in the plasma box.... you can set the Desktop up the old standard way... like gnome.... Therefor you can have your icons n shit on your desktop and have everything work as Normal.... I forget where the setting is as I am in gnome right now.... but i think you right click on the desktop and go to desktop settings.... and you can change it to a standard desktop

  • thanks for telling me.

As I'm an inexperienced KDE user, I'd rather have that set up for me on default. :P

But I'm glad they have that extra option you mentioned.

  • you can change EVERYTHING if you want.. it's open source ;)

btw KDE 4.3 is much better as 4.2 much better perfomances now

  • I know that, but you can't really move things like workspaces and start menu can you.

  • You can.

You can really do anything with that menu you please. More customizable than gnome panels.

Anyway nice video. I subscribed to your video feed and looking forward for good Linux videos :)

  • Nice Comparison :)

I've always liked Gnome much better than KDE

  • thanks for the comment. part 2 is being uploaded. you've got some great videos too :)

  • Thanks :)
