Treedom! thx for the vid. I did some work with Dr. Robert Bruck. He has been researching the mountain top deforestation for 20 years. pserpas what you say is true, however the problem now is the trees die before the age of maturity. I just uploaded an a clip of Bruck on Mitchel.
Some nice pics of Mt. Mitchell, but the claims that the forest is so damaged by acid rain that parts may not grow back for 100 years is pure crap. All of the fir forests on the mountain are replenishing themselves. The problem is that the wooly adelgid, an imported insect pest, kills the older fir trees weakened by acid rain. Yes, acid rain is a problem. However, pictures at the summit from the 1800's show fir die offs even then. Die offs are both natural and man-made occurrences.
