  • What are they wearing? The cloth parts and all that of course. It's always eluded me what the cloth part is called, and what is that on the woman's shoulder?

  • @TehLeek

that cloth part is called cote d'arms or wappen. that thing on her shoulder is just a decoration imo.

the first part reminds me of Gothic ;p

  • I don't know what the hell is going on over there, but it doesn't look anything like real swords techniques...

    Thumbs down for misleading title.

  • I wouldnt recomend switching to reverse grip in mid-fight, shield bash, revers cut might (and most times will) disarm you. But very nice fighting style afterall :-)

  • I really liked this video. Do more please!

  • 1:35 where the action begins.

    Welcome!

  • ...(without believing in only academic convictions) and spontaneous fightings.

Our videos are not for teaching techniques, but only to show our way.

We invite all of you to see also the other vids we posted on this user, I'm writing from.

Or search simply Liberi Lusenta on youtube.

We also are finishing a fiction and we have already posted the trailers: il cavaliere e il gioco della morte

    Greetings from Italy,

    Compagnia Liberi Lusenta

  • I wanted to thank all of you, who have commented this vid.

Our group studies martial arts in respect of tradition, but bringing also new innovative features in. Our studying group is composed by different athletes who have studied different martial arts, both western and oriental. Some of us have also fought in full contact encounters.

Our way to do martial arts is related to art (choreographies for didactic purposes and of course esthetics), to the study of techniques...

  • Son las chicas super poderosas. Oque

  • Are they stick dancers ?

  • why would they be swinging there sword around their back like that??

its just silly and useless in a fight

  • Ah ma è il Gruppo di Primo!!!!! XD Ahahahah....e io k sn stato x tutto il video a dirmi ''ma questi qui li conosco''...Bravi ragazzi! Un saluto dal Contado dei Castellamonte.

    By Franz! :)

  • Medieval II Total War music. Good choice

  • i like their outfits

  • Excellent tutorial thanks very much for posting.

I got a few flourish ideas from this.

Keep up the good work folks!

  • I fucking love it!

  • looks good but in battle some of them moves, strikes and defences are pretty pointless

  • and the fight goes on for ever THE END

  • Nice! But in other videos I've seen (specialy those based on codices), there was strong emphasis on parying with the flat of the blade, so as not to damage the cutting edge.

And there was also a strong emphasis on close quarter fighting (physical contact, takedowns, pomel and guard strikes, etc), and less on blade contact (actualy there was very little blade contact). I'm not saying I know anything about this, just noting a difference...

    But very good nonetheless! :)

  • LARP?

  • Does anyone know if those are Bastard or Broadswords? I can't really tell in some shots.

  • @Shurtgal26

Broadswords are later, they are one handed and typically have basket hilts. They were otherwise known as basket-hilted swords. The weapons used here are simply longswords. Call them bastards, hand and a half or longswords, because all three mean the same thing.

  • @Shurtgal26 I don't really know if it's really that simple.

As far as I am aware their was no standard size as each sword was either made to order or inherited so on any battle field I imagine many different lengths and blade types would be being used at any one time.

I have a "bastard" type sword blade with a very "pointy" end but it's two handed so can you get a two handed bastard sword?

You can look at the Oakshott typology for blades and it may have some rules of thumb as to which is which.

  • Assassin's creed?

  • I enjoyed the movie but still... this is not how combat happens. No aggression in sparring whatsoever. I realize that medieval martial arts have the weak position of "never being tried", but this is just art for art's sake. And as far as art for art's sake goes I commend this clip, because it's good in an aesthetic way. Just don't mistake it for something else, really.

  • Well fought, Clarissa!

  • Call it a pattern, form, or kata, and people will laud it as beautiful and art. Call it what it is, military drill and training exercise, and people want nothing to do with it. Strange...

Anyway, i'd be interested to know what your source is for this set of drills.

  • @LMMEjsmith I've practiced(still trying to practice just not in a dojo) Okinawan karate and some Matayoshi kobudo. The first thing that came to mind when I saw the first part of the clip was "what an interesting kata". I usually do them to refine my strikes, position, movement and to simulate combat without the help of a partner. Up until your post never has the word "drill" come to my mind. Thank you.

  • @Redum69 eh, you're welcome? Sorry if i ruined it for you.

  • @LMMEjsmith Not at all. I was just amazed at the things people(myself included) can miss sometimes. Rather funny if you think about it. It's too bad there are those that concentrate on the word "art" in martial arts and forget the word "martial".

  • Please excuse my brother who wrote the below comments... without permission to use my mac... I don't get what he was getting at considering his near lack of sword-fighting skills. I have practiced swordsmanship for 10 years and I thought you alls video was excellent. You all should be very proud and keep up the good work. But please excuse my brother who typed the below comments. He knows nothing.... now I'm gonna go smack him upside the head... Very good job Clarissa, Pimmo, and Vasco!

  • Now I could go on forever or write a book, but that is not my intent, nor is it my intent to bash these young swordsman... and woman. However this not historical medieval combat, nor is it techniques that would have been used on the battlefield. And while the techniques looked good in the video, and some were good, one has to look at the "after effect" and wether u have left yourself open for an incoming attack. Anyway... it was a fun video 2 watch, but it is not true swordsmanship.

  • Hmmm.... While it was interesting to watch it wasn't True Medieval Swordsmanship. Everything they did, or at least most of everything was based off Hollywood notions, things that look cool and interesting. True Medieval swordsmanship is a-lot different, but it isn't boring. Also when u are parrying with a sword u want 2 use the flat of the blade, not the edge, and u would actually want to create as little sword on sword contact as possible, because that would damage your blade.

  • ASSASSINO

  • Very cool. And slightly useful. Have to say though holding your sword 'dagger grip' and twirling it around behind your back seem like great ways to lose you grip and get 'killed'.

  • can you tell me what the music is? :)

  • @GhostSymphony Take it: Jeff van Dyck - Duke Of Death.

  • @GhostSymphony Do you like similar genres?

  • Hmm, good thing guns were invented to handle these one-time rogue and scoundrels.

  • I used to sword fight, but then I took an arrow to the knee

  • If only wars were still fought like this GOOD JOB :)

  • YOU SHALL NOT CATCH US, TEMPLAR SCUM!!! good vid tho.

  • The Templars will catch you Assassin!

  • ASSASSINO!

  • makes me want to go back to medieval 2 , but the diplomacy and features make me wanna stay away from it ... >.< cant decide

  • No, ma: sul serio?

  • Thumbs up for having a bad ass chick in the group!

  • ASSASSIN!!! YOU WON'T GET WAY!!!

  • Nice exhibition, but terrible footwork.

  • @Ubiquidade I agree with you there. A bit flashy too, at some points. But good stuff to watch, because of it.

  • Comment removed

  • asesino!

  • clarissa is kinda cute.

  • I think, that many of these techniques are useless in combat with armoured opponet and if u are suited in armour too.. try to strike at opponet not his sword ;) I know it becouse i practice battle swordfighting. This video is nice, but look like kendo or something similary.. But u have quite nice girl in group, write if u want real knight :D lol :)

  • @Gajda1988 Mayhaps they didn't use armor BECAUSE these combatives are not used against armor, maybe?

  • @chizokage Yes, but those 2 guys have a ringmail, so they use armours- unless ringmails and those are sometimes ressistant against some cuts with less power..

  • @Gajda1988 Mail is designed to stop the cutting abilities but that says nothing for the crushing power of a weighted edge plus added force.

  • @chizokage And what did i wrote? "ressistant against cuts with less power" and there are cuts, where they cannot have a power... I don´t know if u are interested in medieval sword fighting, but it seems that u apply some kind of asian matrialarts, so long sword isnt like katana, u need more power for good cut and it means longer trajectory of cut.

At least under ring mail medieval warriors wear quilted armour for elimination of that crushing power of weighted edge.

  • @Gajda1988 So what you're saying is that they make european style hand and a half swords that are so sharp that they will cut through chainmail? I've never seen one, especially one designed after a period piece. What I was saying is that a good sturdy sword with or without a sharpened edge will do significant damage. You could be wearing something as sturdy as a great helm with an arming cap and chainmail coif then catch a pommel to the face with a follow up downward stroke find out what I mean!

  • @chizokage nope i don´t saying this. At the beginig i wrote, that some of their techniques may be useless agaist armoured warrior in battle. nothing less. Try to find someone with armour and weapons and try it. We use non sharped swords in our reenactment and i can say, that power strike may knock down the oponent even in plate armour, but the power is needed. more on PM please.

  • @Gajda1988 EXACTLY, wether or not the edge is sharp, irrepairable damage is possible which is why there is nothing wrong with this video

  • @Gajda1988 Wow. You come across as a real asshole, you know that?

  • @ContradictoryNature Lol :) If u don´t have something constructive to write, only insulting, I am sorry about you ;)

  • @Gajda1988 It was actually constructive. I'm letting you know that you come across as a misanthropic, sexist, self-obsessed, inarticulate asshole. I'm sure you're not that bad in real life, but maybe next time you'll think again before you post misanthropic, sexist, self-obsessed, inarticulate, etc., comments online.

  • You can't see in pitch black dark night.

  • lmao, Dig the Medieval 2 Total War music. XD

  • This is not no use to fight in armor. Your punches come to the sword and not to the body. Read any of the learning Polish knights fighting

  • lol of course it's play acting, they're showing off techniques

  • Hm just the applied concept of distancing would have very effectively ended many of the possible applications two three seconds in. There is deffinitly a major Asian influence in much of the play here, and it being only play many of the techniques that are theatrical and that feel good when doing them physically will of course get you killed or injured first. Good job though, I hope you continue persuing Martial sword arts instead of play.

  • There is to much mixing of styles, including the "Hollywood" style of sword fighting. Elements are correct, but a Kata is only as good as the construction. When properly designed, they are sequences in a fight that make sense to take, one step after the other, including the intelligent response of a skilled fighter. Ask any experienced fighter, the most dangerous opponent is the one who tries something that everyone who knows anything KNOWS will never work, because it is stupid or dangerous.

  • You have no idea of medieval swordfighting. Go join a Kendo group or something

  • Just put one of these guys against a Samurai, or Ninja... them you will see the truth ;)

  • @andersonnata so basicly you're sayin' Ninjas and Samurais could easily kill a well trained medieval knight? Based on what facts?

  • @jonskislo1 are you trying to look smart, or something?!

  • @ix12 I am smart ;)

  • pure ignorance

  • they look like assassins from assassins creed 1 :o

  • 2:51 = deadman

  • the girl has REAL technique and method rest is play acting

  • which system is this from? fiore?

  • are those arming or longswords???

  • hmm use headprotection (FIE fencing masks 1600N with additional back head protection) then you can spar with more speed and killing intent (check FEDER, Fechtschule Gdansk vids)

  • The beginning is very nice, but the end ...

    Am with you;-)

    I look forward to continuing

    Sorry for my English :-)

  • This is awesome.

    hurray for western martial arts!!!
