While we have aways to go on respect for gays and lesbians I dont think things are as bad as some on the San Francisco crowd says it is. The LCR exists because we believe in the core Republican ideas: Freedom of liberties, small government, and fiscal responsibilites. To say the Republican Party is a pro-war party, one needs to look back at the last 100 yrs and see who was in office during the wars. Never have i ever heard a single republican say that the rich should never be taxed - never. Nor heard a single republican say that they want to make abortion unsafe or illegal. Many think it's a state issue, let the people vote.

The Republican party believes in limited government, strong national defense, free markets, low taxes, personal responsibility, and individual liberty. As the American public became more tolerant, many Republicans adopted this attitude of "live and let live" and let God judge. So, according to party principles, prohibiting government from defining marriage is acceptable. states will have the right to recognize civil unions. there are other issues, as you know.
