@vk893 Yes, that's because engagement distances are a bigger factor in full body combat. MMA fighters have more to worry about so they can't let their hands fly so freely without possible repercussions such as being taken down; clinched; kicked; kneed or elbowed.
@Immortalsyn83 Exactly. Mma is more dangerous, but i think boxing is more exciting to watch and as a combat sport, mma doesn't have many defensive options. I don't know, every mma fight i watch i don't see a master of defense, untouchable like Mayweather Jr, or Ali, and for me it's kinda boring as a sport. Well, thats my opinion.
@vk893 Combat sports are a preference & real fight fans should appreciate the beauty in both. Machida is a very illusive fighter, you would probably enjoy his fights. Anderson Silva without question... I watch the boxing PPV's but I'll watch any MMA fight because I have extensive knowledge of grappling. Once you understand what they are doing its more enjoyable just like any sport. There is no excuse for lay & pray in MMA though, that's as disappointing to watch as a Klitschko bout.
if u notice all the boxing tapes are old because boxing is dead. I honestly dont like ufc that much because the fighters have poor technique, but boxing is way to limited, UFC is the closes thing u get to street fighting, however the best thing is pure street fighting no rules.
MMA is a young man sport mostly for white males, boxing is for everyone all races and ages. Both sports will be doing great in their own right. And you can be a fan of both sports. MMA is less political and much easier to be succesful at in a short amount of time then boxing. Unfortunately they will pay you peanuts. Right now UFC is bigger then MMA and thats a big, big problem for the athletes.
@presario126 Pretty sure most of the people that compete in Japan or Brazil are not white, but the majority of American's just happen to be white. UFC is a MMA brand so in know way can a company which represents MMA be larger than what they are representing. UFC is putting on more shows every year which only benefits their fighters by allowing them more opportunities to showcase their skills. UFC has taken a small sport to mainstream, big plus for the athletes under their roof IMO.
@Immortalsyn83 Let me give you an example why the brand UFC is bigger then the sport, no matter how stupid it may sound. When fedor fought Andrei Arlovski 2009 when he was regarded as the top heavyweight they did 90,000 PPV´s. Put the SAME fight 2009 in the UFC and it would easily do 500,000 - 800,000 PPV buys. Thats how strong the UFC brand is. In boxing its the athletes who cash in, in MMA its the other way around.
@presario126 Zuffa is one of the best promotional companies in combat sports however if an organization is representing themselves as a major component of a sport, it in know way can be greater than the entirety of what the organization is representing. The sport needs a powerhouse promotional company to bring awareness to the sport & fighters. Having the best talent allows the organization to promote the fights fans want to see otherwise it could take years to get a decent fight.
i mentioned alves since he is the guy that will strike a pure striker, just to show how that mma can strike and stand up against boxers, while bj is more of all around fighter and prefer to attack opponents through their weakness, which in toney's case grappling, nope it is not dana who started it, he is just reacting with the shots given to him by boxing promoters, there are a lot of those kinds of topics on mma forums since boxers are talking shit about mma
then send mayweather or other boxers in their prime lets see who will win, boxing is just one form of martial arts, the reason why mma is becoming so popular is because guys that are learning judo, aikido, taekwondo, muay thai, kung fu, karate, wresling can relate in mma and they can actually see techniques that they practice (ofcourse not all since other techniques are illegal) are applicable
mma is not real fighting anymore it is a sport and obviously the future of all combat sports, who the hell said mma fighters know everything? they do not know everything but they obviously know a lot more than boxers, before nobody knows about jiujitsu, nobody really knows how effective amateur wrestling techniques are in a fight, now we know boxing is not the best combat sport
also MMA fights arnt real. Unless u have eye gauging, biting, kick to the balls it will never be real, and these are the things that can easily get you out of hold
Lol also who ever said mma fighters know everything is a dumbass. their mediocore in every department at best. GSP greatest wrestler in MMA will need many years of pure wrestling training before going to olympics, his own coaches say this, and olympics is amateur wrestling. MMA is the jack of all trades to put it in another way
@3michael1011 Probably not since fit toney only weighs about 170 lbs. but a perfect fit james toney would of bother to train in take down defence and not showed up to the fight looking for a easy paycheck. Also he most likely would of done more than stand waiting to be taken down and out.
Ufc fans think it means something, but it doesn't, toney was ranked 57 th in boxing, and was atleast 40 lb over weight.
Fuck james Toney nobody likes the load mouth lazy piece of shit
@AlexiusMoore Toney is ranked currently 28th heavyweight in boxing & in his last 18 fights has only been beat by 1 man Samuel Peter. I agree Toney was only looking for a paycheck but I am sure he did train takedown defense. Just like a wrestler can't learn to box as well as a pro boxer in a few short months... A pure boxer isn't able to learn proper grappling skills & technique to stop an Olympic caliber wrestler in 6 months. He was out of his element as Couture would be in a boxing bout.
@AlexiusMoore once you train other form of martial arts regardless if it only for defense you already are a mixed martial artist, it does not matter if it is only for defense the point is you need to learn more to be effective fighter, if toney is 170 then fine fight bj penn bj got great boxing too, the point here is simple combat sports is evolving and most of the next generation is more interested in watching a combat sport where all other martial arts can compete
@AlexiusMoore toney will not knock bj out but he will beat him unanimous decision, but if toney fight bj in mma he will definetly loose, your right bj will probably take him down because of bj's wrestling background and jiujitsu, so if you want pure striking i still got another guy tiago alves, alves is a mixed martial artist learns everything for defense but focus only with muay thai for his offense he will not take anybody but he will knock then out he will still beat toney for sure
@AlexiusMoore i completely agree with you a boxer will be the best boxer, but the thing is combat sports is evolving, boxing i admit is huge part of it, the only reason why boxing vs mma exist is because the boxing promoters see this as a huge threat on their business, boxing will never die it live forever, it will live within mma, to be the best in mma you need to be good at boxing or muay thai, by the way (what i mean is that alves will not take anybody down instead he will ko them)
For Boxing its good that MMA has come on the scene, because it will force it to compete, instead of just being a huge money making machine by just giving fights that no one wants to see just to keep a fighter undefeated with that all alluring 0 in the loss column.
But this whole Boxing vs MMA was started by Dana, he wanted to bring attention to UFC so he stated throwing dirt on boxing, and boxing promoters felt bitch slapped so they responded. It pisses me off!
it is not dana who started it but the boxing promoters, because the rise of mma happened when boxing messed up, they gave mma the oppurtunity to rise and now it cannot be stopped since more people can relate in mma because it covers a lot of martial arts,
alves he is one of the contenders on ufc 170lb division, he is a kickboxer and that is his strength it doesnt matter if his opponent is a good striker he will still strike with him
Who fired the 1st shot?? MMA was gonna rise even if Boxing was still doing great, But it was Dana who started critsizing Boxing first. its Dead, overshadowed, blah blah blah. Why are there so many Boxing vs MMA threads on sherdog and other MMA forums, and barely any on boxing forums, bcos MMA fans have been stirred up by Dana to go and attack boxing, as Dana wants to damage the competition.
I know who Alves is, its just u mentioned him out of nowhere, when i thought we were talkin about BJ
@amirjitsu yah, but boxing was the 1st combat sport that was really popular, and while i love MMA, MMA fans have to respect boxing, because withoute boxing going through all of the needed changes, requirements, etc., MMA couldn't survive, period. So FUCK U U STUPID FUCK AND STOP TRYING TO MAKE US LOOK BAD!!
@TheARguy1 Perhaps in America, however pankration was a beloved combat sport for over 1000 years. The idea of fighting in full body combat is centuries old & the rise of MMA has little to nothing to do with boxing's current status. I enjoy both sports as a fight fan but MMA IMO is generally more interesting since it's all styles of fighting.
wow! i cant believe boxing fans are really this ignorant about fighting, the knockouts that u see in this video are done by well rounded "MIXED MARTIAL ARTISTS" not boxing purists, you guys fear mma because you know nothing about martial arts bitches! You love boxing because that is all that you can understand, mma is too complicated for boxing fans cause all you can understand is to punch, did you see how EASY randy couture defeated james toney?
People who say that no mma fighter can stand up with any boxer are really stupid... If you think every mma fighters stand up sucks type in youtube search bar melvin guillard sparring...
@dbzsniper98 Your really stupid, because boxing is part of mma but it includes other training like ground training and how to take someone down, if a boxer faces a good grappler even if his striking sucks he will win, why? because once he takes him down and gets on top, its over.
@dbzsniper98 a good wrestler would take him down. argument closed. i don't want any more replies from you. faggot dick. muhammad would win on the feet. a mma fighter on the ground. that's it !! you got anger problems bro ? hitting the capslock doesn't make you big bro.
@dbzsniper98 if you knock someone on youre ass you go in for the kill... if you follow up on someone while they are on the ground it's fucking ground game retard. don't give me this shit about you being 20. i looked at youre videos and you look like an insecure little punk.
@dbzsniper98 nobody is gonna hold on to you ! but if you knock someone on their ass you go in for the kill...thats when the fight goes to the ground you fucking retard. look at youre videos ! you aren't 20 years old. you are like 12-13.
@dbzsniper98 it ain't all about fist retard !! you are like 12 or 13 years old ye ? you don't have the experience. i promise you. when people get punched in the face then they look for a escape. the only way to escape is to grab a hold of somebody. then it is grappling. i like to punch a couple of times then kick the shit out of their legs. grab a hold of them. drop them on their back. then start punching
@dbzsniper98 dude... mma fighters in street fights are better then boxers. if you take someone down and their back hits the asphalt you fuck them up. picking someone up and dropping them on their heads. kicking the living fuck out off their head. punching someone while they are on the ground is most effective.
@ICarnagezI Boxing is playing chess? LOL!! You put the best pound 4 pound boxer in the ring with the best pound 4 pound ufc fighter i guarantee the boxer will get checkmated! Just ask James Tony! lol! James Tony kept saying boxing is superior over mma.....until he stepped in the ring with Randy Couture. He didn't even have a chance and didn't land 1 fucking punch! Pathetic!!
@jcjjcc You put an UFC fighter in a ring with the likes of Manny Pacquaio, Sugar Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Bernard Hopkins, Miguel Cotto, or Wladimir Kilitschko and force them to fight in boxing rules. i guarantee the UFC fighter wouldn't last 3 rounds. UFC fighters wouldn't understand the dynamics or the science of Mayweather, just like a boxer wouldn't last in a UFC arena. Its entirely a different sport.
@jcjjcc You're a fool. The analogy of boxing being a chess game doesn't mean Boxing is superior in the octagon to MMA.
The idea is that it requires more cunning and more planning. And it's true; with fewer tools and a larger talent pool, it is much more difficult to overcome your opponent in Boxing than it is in MMA. UFC either your plan is to take them to the ground, get on top and hit them, or don't and stand up. With boxing, there is no room to maneuver - it's all skill.
@jcjjcc That's the idea you clown. You clearly didnt understand the analogy that man was making when he said Boxing is a chess game - shown by your moronic reply to him. Jheeze, at least check what people write before calling them a clown.
Personally I think boxing Is a much more entertaining sport, a punch and then people rolling on top of each other on the floor is a bit boring in my opinion and when r u going 2 find the time to learn a load of different fighting styles
MMA is not only a lot safer then boxing but a lot more exciting. Cause as soon as your wobbly the ref jumps in and stops it. instead of okay your whobbly get up and get punched in the face some more. in boxing theres on average 8 deaths a year, in MMA theres been 1 death in its history...
@wade2thehamilton its not the fact that mma is safer it alot more dangerous hence the shorter rounds and round time if mma out a 12 round fights with 5 mintues each guys would die of blood loss or just get plain knocked out and even with 3 roudns in mma theres a knockout every 7 rounds
@chicityjoka Guys would never die of blood loss, when a cut gets bad the ref stops the fight as a TKO it doesn't matter how many rounds there are. Yes MMA is safer, perhaps because the rounds are shorter thats a good thing! You want the sport to be safe for the athletes. Theres nothing more scary then someone being constintaly punched in the head over and over, then he falls down knocked out, then gets back up and goes again. Extremely dangerous compared to mma where there are many ways to win
UFC is much more skillful u go through 5 five minute rounds or pure brutality Wearing thin as hell Gloves and they are using Muay Thai which is a much more Killer sport than Boxing mma using karate, kung fu,bjj, wrestling, kickboxing & even boxing etc they need much more stamina and skill to be a ufc fighter than a boxer. boxers fight for 12 rounds but they only punch, ufc kicks punches knees elbows clinches slams submits etc, ufc is a much more Superior sport than boxing
@Skychiez That makes no sense. If you train at punching, kicking and grappling at the same time, youre not going to be as skillful at those things as someone who trains only 1 of these skills. There's no such thing as a 'superior' sport.
@MrRaceboy04 are you being serious? have you ever even been in a street fight. takedowns don't work in real life. you do NOT want to go to the ground in a street fight. what are you gonna do? roll around on the ground till the cops catch you? roll around until someone else kicks your head in? roll around until someone gets close enough to shank you?
"takedowns don't work in real life. you do NOT want to go to the ground in a street fight"
Actually takedowns do work in a street fight. And if it's a one on one fight you DO want to take it to the ground if you know ground work. 1) if you can incapacitate a person without smashing their face in it actually looks a little better when the cops arrive. If you're worried about multiple opponents, there's not much you can do anyways other than run, so that argument is kinda dumb.
Since most real fights go to the ground anyways, you're probably better off knowing what to do when you get there than not. But please, continue believing that ground fighting would actually be detrimental to learn. Maybe you'll get in a real fight one day.
I would love to see Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacuiao fight each other in a MMA fight!!!! oooooo shit, would that be a treat or what? But i would hate to see Brock and Randy fight each other in a boxing match ewww that would be UGLY to see that bullshit, almost funny to see their stiff asses tryin' to box each other lol. But Floyd and Pacman in a MMA fight, sombody won't make it out alive.
"you've got to be joking. MMA = dude throws 1 punch. other dude falls on the ground. both roll around on the ground for the next 5 minutes."
Apparently you have not watched MMA at all in the last 10 years. It was like that back in the 90s when it just started evolving. Now it's a different story. How much total time do you think Chuck Liddell, Lyoto Machida or Anderson Silva have spent on the ground in their MMA careers? I'd guess maybe 10 oto 20 seconds each.
Yeah but the body locks and everything makes the sport move really slow If I'm locked up with my opponent I want to have opportunities to take a hit on him/her without worrying about being in a submission hold.
At least in boxing it is constant, there is always a punch and block being executed every second of the match.
Although MMA seems more fun to beat the crap out of ur opponent and is more brutal than boxing but boxing has better flow of pace.
@Dimitri0809 James Toney was saying that up until he got into the ring with a Martial Artist, u compare Boxing to what the UFC was 9 or 10 years back in the crazy days. look at it now you see running wall kicks, flying crane kicks, shit you see in movies. face the facts its a single organisation taking over an entire Industry.
@Dimitri0809 are u fucking dumb?? UFC is way more popular and a ufc fighter would drop a boxer anytime. and we already proved that. UFC takes way more skill to be better on the ground and the feet. ur a fucking noob boxing is boring and gay
@OkrayGaloreToo wow. are u that stupid, i said there is not a single ufc fighter that could box with pro boxers, u said watch the james tony fight, i said laying on the ground is boxing now being sarcastic referring to the whole fight being on the ground. never said anything about not using mma in a street fight
@Dimitri0809 yeah dance around with big red pillows on your hands for 30 min and no gets hurt thats for real fighters fuck out of here fag. try taking a knee to the face.
@Dimitri0809 good joke! nothing skillful lol with the ground n pound lol with wrestling, sambo , BJJ lol judo, sweeps lol reversals lol flying arm bars lol
@Dimitri0809 but there is skill in jui jitsu, wrestling, judo, karate, taekwondo, kickboxing, muay thai, and countless other styles and techniques that are part of mma, boxing has.......1........
@Dimitri0809 yeah there is, and there is skill to submitting someone on the ground, or submitting the guy on top of you who is punching you, everyhting about mma takes more skill, lol no wonder when boxers try to fight in the ufc for special events they get there asses kicked!
I saw th second UFC clip live (0:22) they were best friends nd every1 thought th guy who won played possom when he grabd his ribs nd every1 was pissed but then that guy dropd right after it was 1 of th wierdest fights i ever saw live or on TV
@MrRaceboy04 there is not one mma fighter that would make it in boxing and be good, boxing and mma are two different sports i like both so no need to argue.james toney fat ass washed up out of his prime vs a legend in couture was a joke, james toney talks too much.roy jones vs sylva would be good but in boxing.
@punchingpower Why should they? It's the boxers that TALK ALL THE SHIT, AND GET THEMSELVES INTO THIS MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE.
When's the last time you heard an MMA fighter talking about how he'd whoop a boxers ass in a boxing match? Answer: NEVER.
Boxers just need to shut their fucking mouths. How about we split the difference and have them meet in a street fight? Oh yeah, boxers would still get their asses kicked.
@punchingpower Dude your an idiot if you think MMA fighters would win in the ring under boxing rules. However with that said, those would be some good fights that would sell.
im going to get no end of shit for saying this but i think its safe to say that a top level mma fighter could "hold his own" in a boxing match (im not saying win) but a boxer in a mma fight wouldnt last 2 mins
@0boy00 exactly - you wont get no type of shit your speaking the truth & any one else that doesnt agree needs a serious reality check - send bj penn in agaisnt a good boxer & garauntee he comes out with a win or at least can hold his own - but send a boxer in the octagon & he'l get demolished
Anyone who thinks that fighting is just about kicking and punching is naive to put it mildly. Most street fights will go to the floor. Grappling and ground fighting are essential in a real fight. There is no referee out on the streets.
I used Karate and my strikes to kick my older brothers ass, but as soon as he got into wrestling he would take me down with violent headlocks and now I can't win because he's a better grappler, but I started wrestling a year after him
C'mon dude, 3 rounds is barely "barbaric," where's the KOs in that pseudo sport? As soon as the fight gets too fucking gay the referee calls it out. By any means it's only "dangerous" because the fighting style doesn't grant the fighter a long career or experience for that matter. Really, I hate Mayweather but he's right, listen to the metalcore playing when they hump. It's a less gay WWE. These fighters are dimes a dozen. With roids in your nuts bonus.
If a boxer cant beat an MMA fighter in the ufc where there are rules he definately has less chance on the street where there are no rules.90% of street fights go like this..2 people bridge up,then start throwing punches, within 4-5 punches end up in a clinch,some1 grabs the other with a headlock, then it goes 2 the ground. If u dont agree then u obviously hav no experience.Im not being biased,I prefer fighting on my feet.I luv kickboxing & muay thai but the reality is 90% of the time it goes down.
money this money that, oh, i get paid more money than u. i guess thats the only thing that boxings got on mma.....PLEASE PEOPLE USE COMMON SENCE..........
you do realize that ufc isn't the name of a sport right, if not you're a retard, ufc is the name of the biggest company in the sport, the sport is called mma
Boxing was born a long time ago, way before UFC. Boxing is in trouble because of fighters like Mayweather, who refuse to fight the best. It also doesnt help that there is five or more belts in one weight class. Boxing draws a huge crowd, UFC can barely fill a Hard Rock Cafe. I liked UFC when one guy was 160 lb, and the other was 300, that was cool. Now, it's all the same, and why does every fight they put together have to be PPV???
anyone who takes sides in the MMA vs Boxing argument is a cheese dick...

this is how i see it. Its the equivilant of sprinting vs triathlon. one guy is awesome in 1 thing, while another guy is good in 3 things.
the triathlon will never be the best runner, or swimmer, or rider.
Same as an mma fighter will never be the best striker or wrestler.
A boxer will always be the best boxer, for me its more spectacular to watch Usain sprint amazingly, then watch a triathlon.
prime Toney would kill BJ in striking, Penn will have to Wrestle. what if a boxer learns TD??

TheARguy1 4 weeks ago
@TheARguy1 Perhaps in America, however pankration was a beloved combat sport for over 1000 years. The idea of fighting in full body combat is centuries old & the rise of MMA has little to nothing to do with boxing's current status. I enjoy both sports as a fight fan but MMA IMO is generally more interesting since it's all styles of fighting.
Immortalsyn83 4 weeks ago
wow! i cant believe boxing fans are really this ignorant about fighting, the knockouts that u see in this video are done by well rounded "MIXED MARTIAL ARTISTS" not boxing purists, you guys fear mma because you know nothing about martial arts bitches! You love boxing because that is all that you can understand, mma is too complicated for boxing fans cause all you can understand is to punch, did you see how EASY randy couture defeated james toney?

@dbzsniper98 Your really stupid, because boxing is part of mma but it includes other training like ground training and how to take someone down, if a boxer faces a good grappler even if his striking sucks he will win, why? because once he takes him down and gets on top, its over.

@dbzsniper98 nobody is gonna hold on to you ! but if you knock someone on their ass you go in for the kill...thats when the fight goes to the ground you fucking retard. look at youre videos ! you aren't 20 years old. you are like 12-13.
MMAstokke 6 months ago
@dbzsniper98 it ain't all about fist retard !! you are like 12 or 13 years old ye ? you don't have the experience. i promise you. when people get punched in the face then they look for a escape. the only way to escape is to grab a hold of somebody. then it is grappling. i like to punch a couple of times then kick the shit out of their legs. grab a hold of them. drop them on their back. then start punching
MMAstokke 6 months ago
@dbzsniper98 dude... mma fighters in street fights are better then boxers. if you take someone down and their back hits the asphalt you fuck them up. picking someone up and dropping them on their heads. kicking the living fuck out off their head. punching someone while they are on the ground is most effective.

Pathetic!!
jcjjcc 9 months ago
@jcjjcc You put an UFC fighter in a ring with the likes of Manny Pacquaio, Sugar Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Bernard Hopkins, Miguel Cotto, or Wladimir Kilitschko and force them to fight in boxing rules. i guarantee the UFC fighter wouldn't last 3 rounds. UFC fighters wouldn't understand the dynamics or the science of Mayweather, just like a boxer wouldn't last in a UFC arena. Its entirely a different sport.
42Torch 9 months ago
@42Torch obviously but mma fighters are better fighters in general cause they know many more diffrent fighting styles then just one.
taker62632 9 months ago
@jcjjcc You're a fool. The analogy of boxing being a chess game doesn't mean Boxing is superior in the octagon to MMA.
The idea is that it requires more cunning and more planning. And it's true; with fewer tools and a larger talent pool, it is much more difficult to overcome your opponent in Boxing than it is in MMA. UFC either your plan is to take them to the ground, get on top and hit them, or don't and stand up. With boxing, there is no room to maneuver - it's all skill.
WillStLeger 7 months ago

MMA is not only a lot safer then boxing but a lot more exciting. Cause as soon as your wobbly the ref jumps in and stops it. instead of okay your whobbly get up and get punched in the face some more. in boxing theres on average 8 deaths a year, in MMA theres been 1 death in its history...
wade2thehamilton 1 year ago
@wade2thehamilton its not the fact that mma is safer it alot more dangerous hence the shorter rounds and round time if mma out a 12 round fights with 5 mintues each guys would die of blood loss or just get plain knocked out and even with 3 roudns in mma theres a knockout every 7 rounds
chicityjoka 11 months ago

@MrRaceboy04 are you being serious? have you ever even been in a street fight. takedowns don't work in real life. you do NOT want to go to the ground in a street fight. what are you gonna do? roll around on the ground till the cops catch you? roll around until someone else kicks your head in? roll around until someone gets close enough to shank you?
hustleboy62 1 year ago
"takedowns don't work in real life. you do NOT want to go to the ground in a street fight"
Actually takedowns do work in a street fight. And if it's a one on one fight you DO want to take it to the ground if you know ground work. 1) if you can incapacitate a person without smashing their face in it actually looks a little better when the cops arrive. If you're worried about multiple opponents, there's not much you can do anyways other than run, so that argument is kinda dumb.
Ljenkins9000 1 year ago
Since most real fights go to the ground anyways, you're probably better off knowing what to do when you get there than not. But please, continue believing that ground fighting would actually be detrimental to learn. Maybe you'll get in a real fight one day.

@pimp0573
