  • tina turner was SO hot

  • I loved this show when I was a teen. I'm glad to see that I can watch episodes here. And "The Monkey Time" was the first record I ever bought. Oh yes...the memories....And thank you!!

  • I was 14 years old watching this video with my sister (Coni) and my best friend Al. I am 62 now and still a Beatles fan

  • The show brought the sound of the songs out alot better than the tinty studio versions you heard on the radio

  • This is so awesome! i love it! :-)))

  • GOOD to hear James Burton in the 1st part of this! A Shindog & THEE BEST Guitar Lick`s on Earth !

  • YEH, MONKEY TIME, SHINDIG,

  • sinndig was a good showin the sixties ,they showed the black artist because they knew that they woul get good ratings if theydid this . this was a business move only.

  • It is so cool to see Tina so happy! I wish she had found happiness early in her life instead of getting caught up with that idiot Ike Turner.

  • @PaulDePace Right, LOL, as a waitress in some diner in East St. Louis.

  • @strandwolf..... Well...who knows what might have happened to Tina had she left Ike Turner early in their "relationship"? Then again, its hard to endorse Tina hanging around with a guy who beat her brutally (by her own testimony) until she ended up running away and begging for shelter and help.

  • @P Ike Turner had a serious medical issue w/drugs. Anna Mae Bullock had an issue with the truth about their relationship. I would ask you to humor me by going to website run by a musician who worked with Ike and Tina for about the final 7 years of their act. Please google sl-prokeys or just put that plusdotcom in your browser window, go to the main page and click the Ike Turner link and read his version of what happened. Thanks. By the way, C Berry, J Lennon, P Spector, J Brown were tuf on wmn.

  • @strandwolf .....OK, .I read everything. Two people know the truth. My remaining questions would then be: If Ike and Tina had such a great relationship and grew (like many couples) to appreciate what each other brought, good times and bad, then why did they divorce. And why did Tina take niothing just to get out? And why would she say so many thngs about Ike that are untrue?" Do you see some similarities between Tina and Ronnie Bennett Spector? These guys were bad news. Period.

  • For Vitality,)

  • That band could really play R&B.

  • Bobby Sherman dancing to the milk commercial.

  • what a wonderful music, song performance - I'd have loved to be there! Tks for posting!

  • back in the 60's major lance had no notion that he would do 'love won't let me wait' and be a part of a lot of people born in the world.

  • @akaroyalljelly Major Harris(from the Jarmels and the Delfonics) did love won't let me wait, not major lance....

  • @phillylistens You are absolutley correct. My bad.

  • Marvin Gaye is cooler than any punk rapper of today that trys to be cool.

  • VITALITY!!!

  • you gotta be jokin.....lol....... white teen booty shakers...... trying to compete with natural rhythm.......lol......

  • MAJOR LANCE!! I love this song!! I forgot that people performed live....and he could really move!! But I never knew what the Monkey looked like...how did they do it? wasn't Smokey's song "Mickey's Monkey" at a lot faster tempo? so what is the correct tempo to do The Monkey?

  • That's Bobby Sherman - one of the Shindig dancers.

  • True...nothing better than ice cool milk ;]

  • love the "Money" and "I'll be Doggone" collab with Tina and Marvin, it was very cool ^^ Looks like it was telling a story all at the same time. :P

  • Three great musical performances & there's an argument about the milk commercial?ROFL, typical Youtube comments. At any rate, 5'll getcha 10 the brunette is Toni.

  • Who can focus on a once-in-a-lifetime pairing of Tina Turner and Marvin Gaye when you got that great milk ad, lol.

    Major Lance worked it out.

  • Thanks for posting. I love the song "hold on to what you've got." I have liked it ever since I heard it as a child. Great to see it performed live!

  • There

    Their

    They're

    Kramnosnits is correct.

  • Two

    To

    Too

Some of you are ignorant spellers.

  • Wow! "Monkey Time" & "I'll Be Doggone" on the same clip!

  • i live in the bronx, and blacks always sit in the back of the bus. the illegals sit in the front. weird scene.

  • Woah look at Major Lance's feet!

  • Northern soul moves before Northern soul! ;)

  • I for one, don't hate you!

I'm real sorry man. There isn't much racism around here, so I'm just really sorry to hear that people are still racist to you.

    Good luck, man.

  • Great clip of one of my favorite songs by Joe Tex, and it's better than I remember, and he sang it LIVE!! These are really good singers who can do that....this show deserves great credit for showcasing all the great black artists who other wise weren't represented by the other shows like "Hullabaloo", "The Llloyd thaxton Hop", "Shebang"...white faces usually, and considering it was African-Americans who invented and created rock, (not to mention soul, R n B, blues, jazz, etc.) it's a sin.

  • Tina is fine! I bet Ike pimp slapped her butt the minute she came back stage! Now Annie Mae you was just a little to damn close to Marvin!!!! Clean yourself up we gotta show in Cleveland to go too!!

  • HA HA that was to funny

  • The VITALITY DRINK>>>>> Heck I drink CROWN ROYAL for Vitality!!!

  • Can Someone Post The Studio Version Of Joe Tex - Hold What You've Got!!?

    cheers

  • Joe Tex - Testify!

  • Bobby Sherman in the milk commercial.

  • there are still white people that think that the black people made the sixties happen ;)

  • Joe Tex! Major Lance! OMG - I never thought I'd see this footage from WAY "back in the day" ... Check out Tina's hair! And Marvin, looking good, sounding better. Thanx SO much.

  • Classic classic. This is real entainment.

  • Sad what '60s Black artists had to endure when presented on TV. Those White girls jumping around them just looks stupid!

  • Shindig was a dance/music show catering to teenagers. Major Lance is in the forefront of the stage and all you can focus on is the white girls?

The song is called Monkey Time with Lance calling out dance steps. Would you rather black girls be dancing like monkey's as the song suggests so you can call the show racist?

Be thankful that Shindig and ABC recorded these artists at their peak and preserved the footage for future generations to enjoy.

  • Why should anyone be thankful for being marginalised?

  • "Marginalization involves people being denied degrees of power. Marginalization has the potential to result in severe material deprivation, and in its most extreme form can exterminate groups."

Why are you watching this video if your feeling marginalized by it? Care to explain?

  • No.

  • You don't seem to see that this was a kids show not for intellectuals, ect.. KIDS! The dances were the monkey, the gorilla and the Watusi to name a few and the all look very silly today but in there time they were fun! Try to be glad we can see these old videos and try to understand the times. Yes these were difficult times but we first needed to crawl yesterday before we could step into tommorrow! You obviously care for black people and thank you for your love!

  • As a child of the sixties thank you for defending shindig as I loved this show for showing these black artist. Those old school dances do look very silly but that was in style then! We must remember that and not be so negative and be positive like your comment. Thanks!

  • @barriobajaj I'm tell you some people are so funny, regardless of race lol!

  • When Joe is speaking, on You gotta.... he really reminds me of Cassius Clay. I never noticed before

  • dosent the blonde girl on the left in the milk commercial at the begining look like a VERY young jessica lange?

  • Joe Tex....Yes!

  • What a great time it was to be a teenager back then! Thanks to MOTOWN and all the other great artists who knew just how we teenagers felt!

  • this had to be a legendary night with tina turner, ike, aretha, marvin gaye, james brown and the other performers

  • And to think that although many of them are no longer with us, many of them are Rock 'N Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees and rightfully so.

  • ike?????? i didnt think he was their

  • luv this video its well good luv tina

  • Tina was beautiful even here, money has nothing to do with it. You must just realise that some videos are not that good. There was another video of hers here, around the same time when she was singing I Can't Believe What You Say and she was very cute.......

  • Hey, that's Bobby Sherman!

  • to ss421982 tina has never had plastic surgery..the only surgery she has had,was on her nose do to long abuse ike damage her nose which lead to breathing problems through her nostrelss...she's a natural...

  • Not to be shallow, but Tina sure became much more attractive as she aged. I know, I know...plastic, but maybe ditching the baggage known as Ike helped as well. Ike Turner was a fantastic musician though.

  • Tina was and still is beautiful.

  • Tremendous!

  • I always liked Tina for her personality and her style, but you got to admit that she was pitchy at times.

  • Thanks fo sharing these good old memories of the Shindig Show.

  • Great Video, Thanks!

  • I was defo born in wrong time!! Never mind I can look at this instead

  • thanks motown250 for posting to me. what did they put in that milk? certainly made em move

  • PURE SOUL

  • thanks again mr motown250!

  • Its not every day you get to see Major Lance doing the Monkey Time great beyond great.

  • MILKSHAKE!

  • I tihnk I would throw up if I drank all that milk and started jumping around those kids.

  • i love this video its wicked tina turner so beautiful and look how young she is so powerful and malvin gaye wow hes cool to

  • i wish i was born on 1939 same tima as tina and wished that i lived at where she first met ike... instead of hawaii.. (i love hawaii) oh also so i can see her shows on shindig whitch dont show anymore.. and so i can see tina and ike's live concerts!! (i dont wanna see ike i wanna see tina!!) one more thing i wish i was reborn then i could see my other favorite singer! love you tina!!!

  • Marvin Gaye was an incredible talent, and "I'll Be Doggone" is probably my favorite of his hits.....well, that and "What's Going On?"

  • whos martin ferstday?

  • MARVIN AND TINA SINGING TOGETHER??????????

    OH HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree Ikkeyik, we were SO born in the wrong decades!!!

    This true, time-everlasting music!!!

  • marvin gaye looks cute!!! tina turner and marvin gaye would make a great couple.. i mean look at the clip of them!!! so cute!

  • Joe Tex....God Damn

  • I know. I as just thinking the same thing. Amazing.

  • Thanks Imj22! Now I know how JOE TEX looked and his great voice singing the "Hold on to What You've Got" Ain't that the truth!

  • Never heard a live version of this classic...nailed!!!!...sometimes they had stars in the audience. Anyone notice "The Shaggy Dog"? could be tough since he's wearing sunglasses. (look at 2:35)

  • marvin gaye was so cute

  • None less than Toni Basil (Oh Mickey!) drinking the milk in the milk commercial. No shit - that's her (she worked on Shindig as asst. choreographer). She's the darker haired girl.

  • I kept reading and hearing that Toni Basil was on this show but didn't know if it was fact or fiction. She's fantastic on this show! Shindig's choreography always is incredible- they seemed to be doing routines that were head and shoulders above what was going on with all the other music shows.

  • Sorry but that's not Toni Basil in the milk commercial. She doesn't look anything like Toni even though Toni did choreograph this and many other TV shows and films- American Graffiti for one.

  • Yes, it is. Watch the segment with Toni Basil in the movie "Five Easy Pieces" and compare. It is her. She changed her look frequently with longer and dyed hair , but compare faces Brian.

  • I did watch the "Five Easy Pieces" segment and the "Easy Rider" segments and the "Hey Mickey Your So Fine" video and I realize that she changes her look frequently and I did compare faces and........it's simply not Toni Basil and doesn't look anything like her.

  • Can anyone else tell how much Tina's diggin' on Martin? I think this clip's exposing a secret crush!

  • Do you mean Marvin

  • ooops that's who I meant.

  • yeah, she probably got beat after this

  • this is my first cuz

  • Who is your first cousin.

  • Tina is great

  • WTF!!!
