  • keyboard terribly out of tune lol

    excellent music

  • @nooobangelo - You wouldn't know if you ass was out of tune... go get an education dude..

  • RIP Jaco

  • I prefer to think of jaco as being mute apart from his crazy falsetto

  • Speaking about Jaco: he is gigantic!

  • The drummer seems to be Peter Erskine, not Alex Acuna. Infact, if I remember well, Acuna was fired before the Tour.

  • i love the drummers sweater

  • Perm Choir performing Birdland watch?v=j5lAUwt7gNE

  • My introduction to good quality fusion...

  • @bigfootpegrande Mine, too. I traded some vids for the record Heavy Weather. Puts me in a wonderful trance.

  • 10 motherfuckers have no soul, brains or ears.

  • WOW WHAT CAN ONE SAY PEWWWWWWWWWWWWW WICKED TRACK

  • Beautiful! Zawinul , Pastorius... man, how I miss this guys... :-(

  • The people close to Jaco never gave him the help he needed. You don't let your friends crash in Central Park!

  • Excellent!

  • SUBLIME!!!

  • Excellent!

  • Always wonderful, music plenty of godness, hot and cool music, how many emotions!

  • I Love 1978 , I was 21 in that year. Cool and Smooth Jazz too.

  • That is quite the mohair shirt the drummer is wearing. Where can I get one?

  • @bluegtr2001 funny!

  • @0:51 DAT ASS

  • Ever heard the Manhattan Transfer version of Bird Land? It will make you want to jam a pencil through your ears.

  • @davemo65 I almost did

  • fuckin bass harmonics

  • Not sure i'm comfortable watching this, knowing the throngs of gearheads that are fapping/have fapped violently over all those analogue keyboards/synths/amps on stage.

  • @ProT00L1 What are you talking about?

  • Had no idea what kind of music weather report was..it was 1977..I took my allowance..a quarter a day...$7 for the weather report album...it was the hat with lightning coming out of it that got me..

  • I saw the band on this tour when they hit the UK - an unforgeable evening. RIP Jaco and Joe

    .

  • The best bass player

  • Great. Jaco is just amazing.

  • Hola! Me encantan y me gustaria saber quien es el saxofonista ¿Alguien me podria decir su nombre? gracias.

  • @annalacaro Wayne Shorter! Actualmente tiene como 80 años y sigue tocando!

  • @annalacaro The saxophonist is Wayne Shorter.

  • god i was eleven days old when this jam did happened i see a lot of heroin by the way...

  • Jaco, sono anni che ascolto la tua musica, è straordinario constatare come, a distanza di tempo, essa mi faccia ancora venire brividi lungo la schiena. GRAZIE!!!

  • My music teacher taught our ensemble teacher this song! Awesome base!!!!

  • I have no idea why people like this 'jazz' version of Manhattan Transfer's great tune...1. there are no sexy vocals 2. no dancing 3. everyone seems to be showing-off to impress. rank i say

  • @Cayke1 sorry dude but you dont understand talent and music these guys wrote the song not manhattan transfers so that version would not exist without these guys

  • @Cayke1 Manhattan Transfer LOL

    You stupid MF!

  • People who have music in the soul

  • Heavy Weather now over the Northsea!

  • alarm! we have here on earth 8 dangerous maniacs

  • @rikibitta Their groove is out of this world!

  • that's Peter Erskine on drums in this video, not Alex Acuna.

  • @mrbluebass You're right. You can tell by the back hair.

  • 1978のウェザー・リポート、ジャコ・パストリアスのためにあった夢の”バード・ランド"~これはジャコのベスト・ショット・ライヴだネ! #jazzm

  • Great !

    A lot of thanks

  • Wonderful music, many thanks for the vid.

  • wolf man on drums hahahahahaha XD

  • @SuperSukme Prima di sparare cazzate, informati su chi sia Peter Clark Erskine!!

  • The drummer is soooooo hairy! lolol

  • I'm not talking about the video, I said the '77 release 'Heavy Weather'. Alex Acuna was the drummer on that LP.

  • Mr Erskine doesn´t need any shirt because of his hairy chest

  • @Jeantouroule You mean that WASN'T a sweater he was wearing? ;-P~~~

  • Jaco wears his pants only slightly higher than my Great Uncle Murray

  • the best part is jaco's singing

  • When I first heard 'Birdland', 'Teen Town' and 'Havona' on Weather Report's 1977 'Heavy Weather' release, I knew then and there new, exciting modern jazz ground had been broken and it would never be the same. I was 16 at the time. Jaco was hot after coming off Bright Size Life with Pat Metheny, Alex Acuna was flaming on the drums and what can you say about Wayne Shorter, phenomenal. God rest your souls, Joe and Jaco. You are missed.

  • @GoldtopSam Alex Acuna was not on drums, it was the big stinky/hairy bear Peter Erskine!

  • Comment removed

  • @GoldtopSam : ur darn right 100%! cheers to ur statement & the very missed Bro's!

  • Shorter is one of the greatest saxophonists ever. Nobody saved anybody. Jaco is the greatest electric bass ever. Joe is one of a kind. Peter is great. This band is as good as it gets. Saw them in 1980. They were amazing.

  • Jaco with the vocal! I thought Zawinul usually sang that.

  • we used to go to some club in Chapel Hill, NC to see them in the late 70's, seems i remember a black guy on bass.... maybe i'm wrong.

  • The synth out of tune at the end ruins this take. I love this tune and the musicianship of these guys but the bottom fell out with the intonation difficulties of trying to play horn, sing the same notes and have the synth take all the beauty away. The CD version I've heard cooks like no tomorrow at this point, so much so that I get upset that they fade at the end cause I don't want it to stop...

  • @rebennett2

Are you sure it's pitch has drifted, or is it just Jazz?

  • WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pure musicianship. Look at the moment at 4:44 where Wayne loses his microphone or something and then looks at Zawinul for help. Zawinul plays exactly what Wayne was supposed to play only on the keyboards. Absolute masters.

  • @skatermgee I think that was supposed to happen though, because Wayne carried on singing. :P well is it really singing, more like moaning in a hight pitched voice.

  • @MrChazzer1 It certainly is possible, but look how abruptly he looks at Zawinul. It's like "Help me out, bro!"

  • @skatermgee wait im getting confused, is wayne the sop player?

  • @MrChazzer1 Yeah he plays all types of saxophone.

  • @skatermgee yeh, i just asked my sax teacher who wayne was, yeh your right. Zawinul defiantly saved him :D

  • @MrChazzer1 Hahahah, thanks. Your theory made sense too.

  • Yes one of the greatest bass players ever this wasn't meant to be a ignorant more a joke but i see some people can't take a joke over youtube these days. being a bass player my self i think i know who he his thank you very much.

  • the best crack head bass player ever !

  • @MrSeatibiza09 I hate reading ignorant comments like this. Do you know who that "crack head" is?

  • Way before anyones time.

  • i think joe zawinul has more keyboards than fingers

  • @utoob4227 close call, though... hehe

  • take me to the aviary

  • ha ha synth gone rogue at the end of four minutes, i was just previously ogling that monstrosity!

  • jaco be singing!

  • is that george the animal steel playin drums?

  • Celebrate

  • Jaco was a wizard long before Harry Potter was even a thought.

  • so much cookin'

  • @frankmegaweedge THAT WAS FUNNY...LOVE THE SWEATER TOO....LOL

  • I once tried to defret my old squire, it kind of worked haha

  • cloink,my jaw just dropped to the floor.

  • Jaco lives forever.

  • un piacere immenso sentire la loro musica !!

  • FantasticX2...

  • 6:23 Shorter's eye shot "Dude you're the man"

  • @utunze As cool as that sounds, No. He was signaling them that that was the last time through..

  • @Natejitsu, The story about the butter knife is real, those are just markings on the neck, and the voicing, while doing the walk was amazing, the are a lot of good players (bass) today, but there was only one Jaco

@safepacker, Jaco did use a lot of effects

  • In 25 years of playing, the only time I've ever put down a set of drum sticks in frustration was when I was trying to get this part down. I finally got it, but it was a bitch. I'd either make a mistake or flat run out of stamina during the lengthy final marathon chorus. Jazz drumming is well set apart. I don't know how Peter Erskine pulled this off while wearing a sweater.

  • @fukinblowme Why? It's just a medium tempo shuffle. Very tiplety played here. On the studio recording played more like a disco beat but both renditions are simpler than a lot of other Fusion tunes. What I could never get is most Mahavishnu or Return To Forever but can play most of that now; just takes time.

  • We are enjoying riding your wave's tonight my friend...

  • God bless John, Mary Julius and Felix, your father was an inspiration to me and the world, a generation mourns his loss, but we will always have the music, love and peace, Vinny

  • Thanks Joco, wherever you are!!! You gave us so much!!!

  • Is Jaco playing a fretted bass in this one? Or are those just markings?

  • @rogalea He used a butter knife to rip the frets off his jazz bass neck, then he filled it with wood putty, and refinished the neck, or so I believe. So, to answer your question, yes, those are just markings.

  • @Natejitsu Nah, he is using a fretted here to get all of those artificial harmonics out at the start. He used to swap necks.

  • @SnrFloyd I am wrong, then, don't listen to me, I don't know anything.

  • @rogalea it appears to be fretted.

  • singing and rocking that walk at the same time. jaco is god. what a huge loss.

  • I love the drummer T shirt ...

  • At 4:45 it sounds like Josef's Solosynth had some tuningproblems...

    Analog area...

  • @saftpackerl i love jaco's T shirt....

  • @saftpackerl there was definately something weird going on.. sounded like the arpegiater was running when he was holding down a note... and it was out of tune yeah

  • Jaco resembles Eddie Van Halen in certain ways. Anyone else ever notice this? Regardless, both were/are masters of their respective instruments.

  • RIP jaco

  • That face at 3.19 ...he KNOWS he is fucking awesome.

  • 2:19 hahahaha

  • the food of my soul, true happiness made into music.

  • His Bass shows true wear of genius.

  • Amazing how Jaco's vocals are far from his bass playing lawl!

  • I was watching this video and realist something; Jaco was a white man and Jimi Hendrix a black man. Both could be called the best in the particular instrument. But it breaks all stereotypes, a white man on bass and a black man on guitar, haha.

  • @Achilles1223

A white man on any rock instrument breaks all stereotypes. Rock n roll is black..

  • @maxdafield I wasn't aware music had a color. Are you a synesthete?

  • @Achilles1223

Interesting. I really do think Jaco is great, properly great; but if you want to compare him with someone black from the same period, take a proper listen to Robbie Shakespeare (of Sly & Robbie, the backbone of nearly every great reggae recording for more than 20 years, except bands who had their own bassist, like the Wailers).

  • legend - wait for it it! And I hope youre not lactose intolerant for the next word is - dary

  • Words cannot express

  • oooh oh OH oooh oh OH Oh Oh oh ooh !! (8)

  • If life worked like Jazz and fusion music, there would be no problems with race or ethnicity issues...music if free...when musician play music freely, crossing musical boundaries and fusing together different styles, they allow a feeling of Unity to come into, and take control of the music, which represents the Unity we should be striving for as HUMAN BEINGS..this was what made this WONDERFUL music in this not-so-commercial area so special...memories...bless

  • They don't Give A Shit - Dey Just Jammin - Sooooooo Killer

  • I aways liked The Weather no matter what the Report

  • JACO!!!!!!!!!! redefined! Bass! . . . . the most muther fucking influential awww-fucking-some bass player in this whole god muther fucking universe!!!! . . . .the fucking asshle who killed this great man should be ass raped every night till that fcker lives

  • @izzionbass

Hey Izzion, I understand your greafs.

but listen to Jaco's son with Walter Trout.

He is really the son of his father, altough he plays another kind of music.

BTW listen to Jaco on Joni Mitchell recordings, some with Mingus, GREAT !!

  • Why is the drummer wearing a angora sweater?

    j/k

    ;o)

  • Solid Jackson!

  • Awesome. Please put a shirt on Mr Erskine.

  • @Fencemaster But he's so styley topless Hehehehe

  • @Fencemaster he's got his favourite wool shirt on!!

  • @Fencemaster ha ha. but jaco has his off, no fair! hair sweater is natural too...

  • @Fencemaster aa UN BRANO DA ANTOLOGIA DEL JAZZ!

  • Is that Ron jeremy on drums?

  • @BeamOut1 yea, drumming didn't work out so he turned to pornography.

  • I get this sense of a really cool "Jam Session" when i watch them perform...<3

Absolutely undescribable...They're just INTO the MUSIC like nobody's business, Audience or not, Weather Report was JAMMIN! :D

    P.S.- I LOVE YOU JACO P.

  • merci, This is so shit hot.

Like someone said, all the right parts in all the right places by all the right players!!! What a great sense of enemble!!

  • schysst basspel!!.

En klassiker inom jazz/fusion kan jag gissa.

  • cooking it crazy kool,,,jaCoooo,!!

  • this is one of my favorite weather report songs, this performance is so good, every one places clear and distincly, damn its so fun!

  • The drummer is a wooly booger.

  • es para morirsee!!!!

  • orgasm bass playing

  • Jaco...Hendrix of the Bass guitar.

  • @Crowth1986; yer a sad wee man. Sheehan and Jaco are/were both amazing players, each in their own style. Sheehan's playing on the 'Crossroads' DVD with Steve Vai is truly awesome, but I don't think anyone has ever matched Jaco's playing for feel or emotion on the electric bass, or ever will. Check out the sound he gets on 'Jericho' by Joni Mitchell. Unmatched, in my opinion. And, for the record, I think Danny Thompson and Scott la Faro are the best double bass players.

  • fucking incredible !!! my god what a band! im so lucky to have seen em during this time, w/ Jaco.

  • is the drummer sitting on a keg?

  • best of all time? Maybe to you.. what a stupid way to present opinions.

    ACME HAMMERS ARE THE BEST

  • the drummer's a fucking ape lol!

  • Jaco does the falseto. oh` man that is cool

  • Put it this way, Stanley Clarke is on equal ground as Jaco P. Wayne is truly the center of this band, melodically speaking. Return To Forever had 4 equally talented musicians. By the comments I've seen only Jaco is a geniuos. Sort of puts everyone else in weather report out of the picture.

  • jaco lives forever

  • Jaco and John entwistle are the greatest bassists of all time.if u look at them they really cared about the music not just the show unlike some bass players jumping aroud on stage like an idiot

  • This has been up for nearly 3 years, and it's only had 110,000ish views? This is ridiculous! Weather Report were some of the finest pioneers of jazz, Jaco, in my opinion, was the greatest bassist of all time! How is this not getting millions of views?

  • @NattMoore - As good as this is, it Jazz and alot of people just don't get it. Put Joco with say the chillie Peppers (actually I'd like to see that) And veiwership would go way up.

  • Jaco unrepeatable. A lot of people try to imitate, but not too much to go. And even the best do not go the way he could Pastorius. Jaco was the god himself. Why is it always the best ones to die soon? Rotten world we live. But the spirit of Jaco will never disappear .. never ..

  • @crowth1986 you can't compare two totally different players.you can have your opinion on what is 'good' and what's not.But keep that to yourself!

  • @crowth1986 are you FUCKING kidding me???? jaco is quite possibly the best bassist of ALL. FUCKING. TIME. i know billy sheehan is pretty good, but he plays with nowhere NEAR the fucking soul or skill that jaco did, jaco is pretty much the end all be all of bassists, honestly i cant think of anyone i admire more when it comes to bass, i could accept you coment if you phrased it like "oh, i'm not a real fan of this, but whatever" but straight out fucking talking shit about JACO? no. thats not OK.

  • @crowth1986 Oh my fucking god. I can let go that you dont think he's the best of all time. a lot of guys happen to think he was, I'm one of them. but when you put billy sheehan on a higher level and I know just because you like his shred solos and bullshit, he doesnt even know what fucking notes he's playing. You just presented yourself as having no musical taste whatsoever, all you seek in musicians is image. Jaco had the best image, and the best notes. go do some english shit you fat fuck
